Xbox announces Developer_Direct for January 18th - Indiana Jones, Avowed, Hellblade II and more

Has it really been 10 years already? Don’t get me wrong, the first 18 months were pretty rough (One Tamriel was a game changer), but that’s been one of those games that Catherine and I have spent untold hours and adventures in. Turned this”I hate the idea of an MMO ES game” guy into a proper fan.

We had a Rumor Mill a while back where Nick said the game is a mix of 1st and 3rd

RTS.

But really, we’ll see next week.

I think their will be a surprise with the direct but not a true shadow drop. I think Towerborne is the surprise with either early access or a demo/beta.

But overall seeing those other 4 games is going to be great. Be interesting to see when these 4 games hit because i could see a fairly front loaded year with these games hitting by end of summer and using the summer showcase to show some end of year things.

I cannot believe we’re finally having a deep dive for Avowed! The gameplay trailer from the last showcase was fine but it barelly showed anything about the game, just some combat cuts.

I hope they show all the branches and narrative possibilities alongside the skills/build possibilities too.

Never thought i’d see the day where Xbox could show off (potentially) 4 amazing games at a direct…yet still have dozens and dozens more left in reserve!

I’m very much looking forward to seeing all the games in action to be honest. I’m not really an Indiana Jones fan but i’ve always enjoyed Machine Games’ stuff and i have a feeling graphically it’s going to look amazing.

Ara looked intriguing when first revealed and i’m glad it’s being shown off in the company of some big hitters as it may attract some people’s attention that are watching the show.

I’ve not felt as strongly as some with regards to Hellblade not showing proper gameplay as i’ve liked what i’ve seen of the game’s setting and atmosphere…that said it 100% needs a release date!

Avowed is the one i am most looking forward to though. I love RPG’s and love a lot of Obsidian’s stuff. Bit of pressure after the E3 trailer “underwhelmed” and probably surprised people in a way they weren’t expecting. In general there’s a lot of competition in the RPG space with certain games raising the bar in certain areas. It’s good that Obsidian can show the game off the way they want to and show the types of systems and type of RPG they’re going for without relying on a quick 2 min trailer. If they can tighten up the graphics and show everyone what type of RPG this is going to be (some may be expecting Obsidian’s Skyrim but hopefully they can communicate well what this actually is) then i think they’ll bring people around they may have been a bit disappointed by the E3 trailer.

They’re not even in their final form with the absent of ABK. It’s crazy.

Avowed!!

After TGA, with the Hellblade 2 showing and Blade announcement, i thought we wouldn’t get a DD considering most games if not all are supposedly planned for H2 2024, and in case it still happened, i thought it’d be similar to 2023’s one, with the big game of the year (Avowed in this case) not appearing.

But we don’t only get Avowed but also Indiana Jones, biggest non leaked surprise in years for a MS show, huge, even more if it’s releasing on 2024.

You can tell MS’s acquisitions are starting to get ready to show-launch their games.

And “only” 1 week until the show, not bad, last year it was 2 IIRC.

I’m normally a very critic person but this announcement was a nice move/surprise, now let’s see what they show, i liked Redfall’s segment last year, but FM’s one was a letdown.

I think Avowed is going to be the big winner from the show, it got a lot of shit for that E3 trailer, but the images didn’t look bad, and i’m sure they’ll have a better showing now, hoping we get some chill gameplay sections too showing environments and maybe music.

Having so many bangers that ABK is a “eh, we’ll get around to that” footnote is amazing.

It is barely 2024 and it has been a wild ride already for Xbox. Slightly shocked that we are seeing Indy already.

I thought 2024 needed one more big game from Xbox that is exclusive to the platform and this is it. Despite the meltdown, being an Xbox gamer is not too bad.

Hope the empty space in the bottom center is for the shadow drop of Kiln. Can’t wait to see Avowed looking better than last showcase !

Don’t know about person, but it sure goes third party.

A really good start of 2024 ! No one was thinking about Indy and BAM !! Here we are, all thinking about it now.

It was needed, as the discourse around Xbox was getting cloudy again lately.

Last year DD surprise was Hifi Rush

This year it is Indy

It’s not about shadow drops but surprise.

I hope Hellblade shows a good amount of uncut gameplay, and I am curious about the battle system.

Same here. Started it because of TES lore, but it turned me into a fan. Stibbons ftw !

Really excited and surprised to see Indiana Jones is going to be one of the focus, I hope it looks stunning. This and a deep-dive for Avowed are more than enough reasons to tune in.

These 9 days are going to feel like an eternity.

I’ll be mad if we don’t have a KILN shadow drop. This needs to become a yearly tradition of dropping games on the developer direct.
