Xbox announces Developer_Direct for January 18th - Indiana Jones, Avowed, Hellblade II and more

I don’t know if they’ve said, but the Elder Scrolls Online presentation starts an hour after this one, and it would make sense to have them back-to-back to use DD as a lead-in and try to retain some of its audience. So my guess is an hour.

edit: Just checked last year’s, and then it was 44 minutes.

44 minutes or so are a bit much for “only” 4 games, I think it’s very likely there will be a fifth.

We already know Avowed is 10 minutes, not unreasonable to think Indy gets longer since it’s the first showing of it.

Indy is the one they said is getting 10 minutes. Avowed they said is getting a deep dive but they didn’t say how long it was but I’d assume it’s also 10+ mins.

So we know, Hellblade, Avowed, ARA & Indiana Jones.

The hope of a secret announcement (for either shadow drop or to be released soon) of Kiln, South of Midnight.

My question is do we know if any 3rd party/partner games will show up? They’ve got a good handful of third party games coming and stuff to GP I feel it needs it’s time to shine.

Stalker

Silksong

Persona

Yakuza

Eiyuden Chronicles

Still Wakes the Deep

Replaced

Flintlock

33 Immortals

And so on. I feel these deserve a showcase

In the short history if Dev Direct, it has been focused on Xbox Published titles. I expect that to continue.

Developer Direct is, and should remain, a first party show. There are other venues for third party and indie announcements.

yeah also because it sets expectations right what to expect

I think the format is clear now:

  • developer direct: 1st party

  • partner preview: 3rd party

  • summer showcase: a mix of both and biggest announcements of the year from the platform

GTA6 for 2024 partner preview program

I think we will begin to see more developer directs this year and potentially more partner previews. Mostly because both showcases were well received and i think it benefits being something similar to a nintendo direct evety now and again.

I don’t see them doing many more developer directs because they have so many events to show things throughout the year, Q1 was basically the only place where there was a gap.

Exception for Game specific Directs like Starfield which I don’t expect to be very common.

These 4 games will be enough. And I really doubt we get a shadow drop/announcement because it will start a trend that we will expect a surprise at every developer direct.

Yeah, Q1 is for the Direct, then you have the summer showcase (june-july), Gamescom (august), Quakecon (august), TGS (september), Blizzcon (november) and TGA (december). There’s room just for a partner preview on the middle somewhere.

Or they could drop the presence at multiplatform shows like Sony and Nintendo, then they can do more directs/previews.

I don’t think a. Shadow drop but I think a 5th game like here is Klein or insert one of the other unknown smaller titles to start the marketing on that game

Some accounts on Twitter also said the DD will have a new format, but I don’t believe MS ever really said this?

Klob said DD had a REFRESHING format and people misinterpreted it as saying that it would have a REFRESHED format.

I expect the same format and aesthetic as last time, especially since the promotional image is identical.

If there’s anything else announced as a surprise during the DD, I think the most likely would be the Starfield DLC with a date.
