Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

We should leave this discussion dude, is clear we have diferent perspectives on it, steam deck brought a ton of new competitors to the market of handheld gaming pc but they didnt affect nintendo sales at all, not everybody cares about having more power or being more portable, people will choose nintendo for one reason or another, they try to capture the casual market with different ideas on their consoles, if pc havent “killed” console is because they are different markets so thinking that a new iphone is going to kill switch, ps5 or xbox is just absurd, and yea there is more people playing with their phones than console players but they are 2 different things, console players arent going to abandon their machine just to play on their phone, also not everybody can buy a brand new phone or a powerful pc and update it, consoles offers an affordable price and it lasts for a long period of time while iphone keeps launching a new phone each year, without it the industry will decrease, they just need to evolve, nintendo didnt wanted to compete with sony and microsoft so they expanded the portable market by uniting it with home consoles, sony tried to continue using the old method of exclusive and xbox decided to open their horizon by making an open ecosystem,

Now when it comes to sega is clear they dont care if their talent leaves or not, just see how they have been treating sonic team, nintendo isnt like that, but well lets just leave it like that, there is a ton of opportunities for xbox now

I understand your point dude but I dont think platinum would prevent other studios from joining, is a medium size studio that doesnt own big ips

Except MS has brought studios that have released games with those scores.

72% for the remaster, but the original WiiU game got a 78%. Platinum Games has developed great games that scored between 80% and 92%. Even if they have had some failures, Platinum Games is a great studio and it would be an excellent acquisition to make in Japan, especially if Microsoft wants to acquire SEGA (Bayonetta/Vanquish) and/or Square Enix (Nier). The studio could also work on a new version of Scalebound or on a reboot of Phantom Dust. The possibilities are immense. Now that Kamiya is gone, I’m 100% for Platinum Games joining the Xbox family and I’m sure they’ll do great things together.

I’m not really following Platinum Games, but what happened to their plan of becoming a publisher ?

Platinum took Tencent’s investment and that was it.

Maybe the failure of Babylons Fail(and COVID) had major impact on the company.

Platinum is fine as far as we know, just Kamiya left.

I see a lot of talk about Platinum with some hate, indifference and praise. In my opinion. Platinum by itself would be a good get to start working on Scalebound again. I know people are sick of hearing about it, but for myself and many others that was the first time Microsoft showed off something new and different in a long time and it got a lot of people excited. I could see it being a FF dragon based game which is something Xbox needs IMHO. After Scalebound let Platinum work on any dormant XBox IP they want, or develop something completely new

The real winner to me though would be to get Platinum in addition to either Square or Sega with Platinum as a studio under them. Sega already owns a few of the Platinum IP and that would work out well. Square and Platinum also have a history and while many of them have been flops, due to Square management or Platinum not having time or the ability to work on things they want to, Square’s JRPGs all seem to be moving to the action DMC hack and slash style combat Platinum is famous for.

Platinum would be a good combo with sega or square, but I think sega is a better choice because they own most of the ips created by platinum

If Microsoft gets SEGA and Platinum Games, I hope it finds an agreement with Nintendo to port the Bayonetta games published by Nintendo to Xbox and PC. In return, Xbox would continue to release the next Bayonetta and Atlus games on Nintendo consoles. If Microsoft buys a Japanese publisher (SEGA/Square Enix), a partnership with Nintendo would be beneficial to both parties. Probably the best option to avoid dropping game sales and benefit from an advantage over Playstation.

Is there a magic acquisition $ number Microsoft has to stay under to avoid a repeat of the ABK nonsense again? What size purchase is considered “too small” for regulatory bodies to get involved?

Well the reporting requirements vary by country. The US has a reporting level of 110 million usd. However, Lina Khan is trying to change the rules to string together previous acquisitions with the current ones to say that it required notification.

I think PlatinumGames would be a decent pickup if Microsoft is looking for another Japanese studio and they are looking to sell. Since there is a lot of great talent there.

Although if Microsoft has their eyes set on something bigger or better after the ABK acquisition is done and over with then I don’t mind Microsoft skipping them.

In the UK it’s a turnover of 70m per financial year I believe for the threshold, although I had read somewhere they were increasing it to 100m.

That’s much lower than I anticipated.

Wouldnt worry about working around the restrictions of the CMA or the FTC. Xbox will buy what they want and figure things out.

I think this is the interesting part about Platinum - while they don’t actually own the IPs for the games they could possibly be reunited with some of them if Microsoft picked up a Japanese publisher.

Anyway, I’m personally all for Platinum. They’re definitely flawed but I think they have a lot of potential under Xbox. Plus - while they don’t come with any major IP that would be something factored into the buying price at the end of the day. I imagine they’d be on the lower end of studik costs.

They could work with the ips of xbox, abk, and bethesda or make new ones, I dont think scalebound will ever comeback but having something similar to dmc or metal gear rising is enough for me, aslong as they stay away from making live service titles

Weren’t there rumors floating around that Xbox was in talks with Platinum about reviving Scalebound? I thought Nick and a few of the other well known “insiders” were hearing that maybe 6-10 months ago or before the ABK deal was announced.

Tbh I dont trust any rumor about scalebound, that game is gone forever and it will make no sense to bring it back without kamiya because he wanted to make it

I am wondering what Project Platinum means and if it does relate to Scalebound or some sort of project with PlatinumGames.

Platinum was tied to Machine Games in the GeForce leak.
