But their single player games sell pretty decent amount monster hunter can be a good game as a service if they do it like Forza but capcom doesn’t seem interested in getting bought i don’t blame them as they r in their top spot
A Capcom rep got asked directly about being acquired by Microsoft. That’s really the only answer they can give that doesn’t drive speculation or make the stock market react.
I still don’t really get the interest in Platinum.
They won’t get NieR, Bayonetta, Vanquish or the Astral Chain IP’s! I’m not sure if Platinum even own Wonderful 101 either.
Wasn’t their last game (Babylon’s Fall) a complete disaster? If I remember correctly it got 3-4 out of ten in most places.
When/If Xbox go for Japan I hope they avoid Platinum.
I think the understand is platinum can make good games and create IP. Just cuz you don’t get the IP doesn’t mean the studio has less value. Y’all got to get that mentality out of you. You have to have a good studio to create great IP to begin with
The fact Platinum can bounce around to a bunch of different IP is exact why you acquire them. Microsoft has a billion IP they’re just sitting on. They’re at their best when taking IP and putting a new spin on it. Throw them on Recore 2. Prototype. Crackdown. Phantom Dust.
Platinum with financially stability would be great.
The problem is they have consistently shown that when they work on anything outside of NieR/Bayonetta it’s typically a 5-7 (or lower). They seem way too unreliable at a point where Xbox is starting to turn that first party ‘quality’ narrative around.
If they were able to jump around and keep the the quality high I’d agree but they have so many flops (even recently) which suggests they can’t!
And I said this in the discord. The problem with platinum is a lot of the games that they do do well. They don’t sell hell the games that don’t work. They’re multiplayer focus something they just clearly are not good with. Give them time and don’t have them rush. Then they can come out with a good game
Hue as a platinum supporter I will say this about them, I agree with you in the fact that they have had far to many flops, however when they can focus on the style of game that they want to do, they create games that are fast paced and unique and not many in the industry can produce games like them. Having said this when they are making a game to “keep the lights on” you get a Babylons fall. My hope is that when Sega is acquired platinum is also, and is placed directly under Sega and given the full funding of a Xbox backed Sega so they can just make the games they want.
What about wonderful 101 or astral chain? Even bayonetta started as a new ip to, just give them support and I promise you that they will make something great
At this point, if MS don’t secure at least some studios from Embracer, it would be tantamount to negligence.
Despite all the acquisitions, MS depends more than any other publisher on a CONSTANT supply of 1st party.
2022 might happen again. Even with the studio capacity it already has and is about to get with ABK.
The only guaranteed way to avoid a repeat of 2022 is to oversupply yourself with 1st party capacity.
At minimum, I’d want to see Crystal Dynamics, Eidos. I’d also love to see Flying Wild Hog getting acquired.
They do great things with a smaller budget and work in Unreal.
What else are Capcom gonna say? Yes please buy us MS? I don’t expect Capcom to be acquired but comments like these mean nothing
It won’t happen because MS will deliberately withhold releases to have a more even spread. Nintendo has been doing that for years…
Phil:
With hindsight, I’m sure MS would have delayed Halo Infinite to the second half of '22 haha.
I wouldn’t use Wonderful 101 as an example, I just checked and that is a 7.2 which would reiterate my point but Astral Chain… yes.
I still feel their output is too flaky, until I see them work on their own IP I just don’t see the potential.
I was under the impression that they had basically an A team and a B team, and the games from the A team were pretty strong.
With the support of a first party you don’t have to churn out games to survive though, so there’d probably be some benefit to their output.
7 isnt a bad note you know? Is one of my favorite games and the community have been asking for a sequel
I thought the same thing when I saw the info lol
I know 7 isn’t a ‘bad’ game but in the context of Microsoft trying to change the perception of its first party titles RE the ‘quality’ narrative it wouldn’t help.
You wouldn’t want a first party studio that occasionally releases 5’s, 6’s and 7’s as will damage the perception of the brand going forward. That’s the message I was trying to portray.
You’re missing the point. It’s not that smart phones were weaker or stronger than Nintendo, it’s that they could be making a play this time around. There have been tons of handheld like the Ayan Neo before, but it wasn’t until STEAM made a play with the Steam Deck that everything changed, now handhelds are in vogue again with so many coming out. Apple might have made a statement when they showed current Gen games on the pro15. Apple is also very good at selling things and the phone can act like a console and be played on any screen and since that teaser the awareness has boomed. I think you might be presuming too much to think a lot of people might not like touch as it is the way kids and teenagers today like everything and they greatly outnumber the console players just like PC gamers prefer mouse and keyboard. The Nintendo thing will become clear with time, I’m not aware of some way of prolonging talents once they’re gone, Sega certainly didn’t succeed here. Sega is my take simply because I would like to see better and more different takes on Sonic and Shadow, would also like to see a well-funded rpg mainly the old ones like the Shinning force or Phantasy Star series. The Shenmue games would also be nice if they could get a good budget.
I dont think plarinum would release a terrible game having enough support, is clear they worked on stuff like babylon fall just to have enough support, also you gotta consider how the media and other audiences treat xbox, starfield got a 7 for example and is a great game
Hopefully that’s the case! I just wouldn’t want Xbox to miss out on some other opportunities by choosing Platinum.
To be fair the ‘7’ was a outlier (not just with the rest but within IGN itself), but I agree Starfield overall should have been closer to 90 rather then 84/86 it currently is (I’m around 125 hours in and still nowhere close to finishing).
