Many suspect it’s related to Quake. Project Silver was the Quake working title that released in 2021. I think Project Gold was the Quake 2 Remaster working title. Machine Games is said to be the one working on Project Platinum.
But the confusing part is that on the Bethesda roadmap, Project Platinum and “Indiana Jones Game” are listed as separate items. I’m wondering if “Project Platinum” is a different project with a coincidentally similar name, or whether Relic/Platinum swapped code names at some point (perhaps they were two separate projects that merged or something).
So we have the following games/projects from Zenimax until 2025 (Fiscal year 2024 goes from 2024 to somewhere in 2025 right? :v ):
Indiana Jones.
Oblivion Remaster
Doom Year Zero.
Project Kestrel
Project Platinum
TES: VI
Licensed IP game
Fallout 3 Remaster.
Ghostwire Tokyo Sequel.
Dishonored 3.
If we count DLC:
Elder Scroll Expansion 1.
Elder Scroll Expansion 2.
Starfield Expansion.
Doom Year Zero DLC 1
Doom Year Zero DLC 2
Project Kextrel Expansion.
For a total of 16 games/ projects in the following years. Since the list is old who knows what is still “alive” or what have changed because we know TES: VI has been pushed to 2027-2028 and Indiana Jones hasnt released yet but suffice to say Zenimax was cooking and I don’t think those are all the games they are working so I would 2-4 more to the list.
There was probably some confusion in the project names, which leads me to believe that Machine Games is developing both games. I believe that platinum project is Wolfenstein 3 given that Pete Hines confirmed the game was in development in 2018, and there is no reason for this to have been canceled as the franchise is loved by many gamers. The development of two simultaneous projects could explain the long development time.
Project Kestrel is the new MMO from ZOS. We notice an economic model similar to TESO with annual expansions. And the licensed game and most likely the Roundhouse game.
FWIW, Nick said he heard that Machine Games was the one working on the new Quake game so it’s track with those other code names.
But yeah, agree that there was likely some confusion in some reporting with the leak. I’d need to see the original documents. Relic does make much more sense to be Indiana Jones, lol.
Well, Machine Games developed the remasters of the first two Quake and will probably develop the remasters of the other games. It would indeed make sense for them to develop the Quake reboot. However I can’t believe Wolfenstein 3 was canceled. In my opinion, Machine Games is developing Indiana Jones and Wolfenstein 3, and ID Software is developing Doom Year Zero and Quake Reboot. It is also possible that the two studios collaborate on certain points. And yes I agree, Indiana Jones is definitely the Relic project lol
If Microsoft were ever interested in having their own Smash clone, which studio do you think they would choose to do it? aether studios, player first games or ludosity
Aether studios or atleast dan fornace has a relation with xbox while first player games and ludosity has shown that they can work well to adapt several ips to their games with care, I prefer nasb gameplay but fpg has learned about making a live service title with multiversus and that could work well with gamepass
There’s no doubt both projects in the Nvidia database were MachineGames since they were both listed as such, but there is some doubt over other aspects of this.
In terms of Wolfenstein 3 - I don’t doubt they would have done early work on this at some point, but the commercial performance of Wolfenstein 2 was somewhat poor (lower sales than it’s predecessor), and Youngblood was both a critical and commercial failure underperformer, with indicators (npd and euro charting, steam data) pointing to much lower sales again even at a budget sticker price.
I think it’s definitely possible that when they started work on Indiana Jones, they simply shelved Wolfenstein. Perhaps they will return to it, perhaps they won’t. I want them to, because I’m very invested in the series. There’s also another possibility, which is that by the time they return to, given how long modern production schedules are, they decide simply to do another reboot or reimagining because it will have been almost 10 years since the last entry.
Wolfenstein isn’t happening or at least not currently imo
I always assumed iD were working on a Quake reboot and letting DOOM rest for a bit while Machine Games worked on Indiana Jones and Wolf 3
But the fact that MG has now had two games tied to them in Platinum and Relic with Relic being Jones, makes me believe they are indeed working on the Quake reboot
I didn’t know Silver and Gold were names for Quake 1 and 2 so the fact that Platinum is there too to me suggests another remaster like Quake 3 or 4 which seems doubtful to me or it’s a new game
The fact that it’s been MG not only helping with these Quake ports but even creating new campaigns in them is telling as well
Isn’t ID making Hexxen. I think there’s a good chance a lot has changed on this list and might not make it. The Quake remasters are not listed, and I don’t know why they would give them code names when they didn’t for the other remasters. I think Microsoft will rather focus on new IPs for a while as it’s easier than trying to explain why IPs like DOOM and WOLFENSTEIN are now exclusive.
I think the only reason to think Hexen is being made is because of Phil’s t-shirt. I believe Activision holds the rights to Hexen and people are just hoping with the acquisition and all.
It’s also possible it’s a new Quake game (which is what Nick’s rumor suggested) not a remake. Basically like they have been doing with Doom and Wolfenstein.
They are looking for a senior animator who has “strong familiarity with Machine Games titles” and “experience animating creatures or quadruped characters”.
This announcement and what we’ve heard since 2018 makes me think that Wolfenstein 3 is in development at Machine Games. I’d be disappointed if that wasn’t the case because I love this IP.
ID Software is a big studio, they are capable of developing 2 games at the same time. In fact, they have already done it in the past.
According to this job posting, they are looking for someone for a game with vehicles. I doubt it’s Doom, maybe Rage 3 or a reboot of Quake to which they brought a new type of gameplay (vehicles) to differentiate it from Doom.
However, I digress from the topic of acquisitions and I apologize for that.
The question was not about an acquisition, rather a potential developer.
Just support because they didn’t direct the game ?
Even if they were just “support” it’s possible that someone learned from the director team and could lead a potential smash clone.
I really like what Player First Games did with Multiversus, so I’ll choose them over the studios you mention. However, I think Iron Galaxy is probably capable of making a very good “Smash” game, so I will choose to acquire this studio for its versatility and expertise on Killer Instinct. Iron Galaxy is clearly underrated, but it would be a great acquisition for Xbox, in the same way as Asobo or Certain Affinity.
I think iron galaxy is a good choice for the future of killer instinct, a smash clone from them would be cool but I prefer the other 3 because they have experience on that genre
Also asobo and certain affinity are a most, they have worked with the other studios already so they could bring support to several titles aswell they work on their own stuff but I wonder, what do you guys think about Striking Distance Studios? I know the calisto protocol isnt great but with the departure of Glen Schofield I think that now the studio will be able to show what they can be capable of, they could create something new instead of continuing under the shadow of dead space, they could make a cinematic or adventurous game, they could also support other studios like the initiative, compulsion or the coalition, I think it could be a good inclusion along with eidos, crystal dynamics and asobo
