Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

I would think they need a solid engine studio like Crytek at this time.

Just curious, Victor how much do you think Xbox would have to pay for them? A engine plus ryse, crysis, and hunt IP. I agree they should acquire them and they are private so kinda hard to nail down the number it would take for acquisition.

I honestly haven’t a clue the numbers I see online are ridiculously low. However I’ll say between 100 to 300 million dollars. They are struggling and haven’t been able to secure financing from what it looks like. Also their games haven’t done well. If Microsoft offered upto a billion they would sell in a heart beat and they were under Microsoft struggling list of possible acquisitions.

One of the repeating things I have seen analysts mention is how they expect the game engine market to ‘boom’ by 2030 so it may be a good approach for MS.

Realistically Unreal or Unity is going to get the majority of that but they also list the following:

Chukong Tech, Crytek, Valve, YoYo Games, The Game Creators, Marmalade Tech, Idea Fabrik, Leadwerks Software, Sony, Amazon, GameSalad, Scirra, Corona Labs (Organization), Silicon Studio, Garage Games, Briar Wallace/Blender Foundation, The OGRE Team (Organization), Godot Engine (Community developed) & Mario Zechner (Personal)

iD Tech would also be a fantastic engine to commercialise (which I think they use to).

The thing is Microsoft needs an engine team that is disruptive especially when they build a console with tech that is hardly used like the velocity architecture. I think teams like ID, Coalition and Crytek will fully maximize those new features.

Agreed. I just don’t like the idea of everything being on unreal.

Yeah there is a certain irony in PlayStation preventing the widespread adoption of DirectX’s latest iteration.

Microsoft entered the gaming space so that PlayStation couldn’t take over the living room but PlayStation is taking over game development in some respects.

Microsoft’s own capable engines would go a long way in ensuring that their efforts don’t go to waste.

Exactly they should have something like XNA again either for indie developers or for Game Pass partner developers like they did during the 360 days.

Ruminating on it a bit, I think publisher-wise MS will acquire Paradox and then Sega later down the line. :philwins:

Though do keep in mind I also see the other side of the argument and I posted about it in the last thread here:

16 posts were merged into an existing topic: Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT4| - We’re in the endgame now

I wonder how this will effect other deals, ABK is huge and cod is huge so is this drastic move just for that or are regulators gonna try push for this for all acquisitions, regardless of size.

Probably the acquisitions will be structured to exclude UK meaning for Sega they will have to sell their UK studios. other acquisitions Probably will not require the UK. The CMA has been a thorn.

So I’m guessing the Embracer studios are off the cards for Microsoft again :pensive:.

I was really hoping they would pick up Crystal Dynamics and Eidos but the ABK deal got in the way the first time around and now the second time too!

I doubt there will be a third opportunity. I bet someone like Sony picks them up dirt cheap which will be really frustrating as they already own most of these type of studios (cinematic action adventure).

Give that they stated they are open to selling off studios, no.

I don’t get the connection, timing?

Yep, if Microsoft are now tied up with ABK until the end of October/ early November then they can’t move on any of these opportunities.

As above, I can’t see how MS could acquire any of them now ABK has been extended again. Another buyer is likely going to move on them before November.

Xbox “We’re interested in Crystal Dynamics, would you hold off any acquisition talks until October?”

Embracer “Yes”
