I don’t think Embracer is going to be in a rush to sell the studios were interested in. They’ve got the co-dev stuff as well as publishing with Amazon.
I wish it was that simple, unfortunately money usually talks in this situation and not a verbal agreement. Also any offer legally has to be taken to the stockholders, it can’t be delayed because ‘Bob’ from MS said.
Hopefully not, I’m hoping there may also be clauses in place with Microsoft or Amazon which prevent a sell during X contract or offer first refusal.
Can xbox acquire a studio while in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard? I never really thought about that until now so i am quite curious about it.
Can? Sure. Should? Probably not (depending on size) as it will make the ABK deal more difficult.
Yes they can. It only goes to the British regulator if the publically traded company has a turnover of more than £70m per year and there is a threat to the consumer.
Well, Ubisoft is definitely off the table. I’m having trouble understanding the details of this new deal or how Ubisoft will be able to pay for the rights to ABK games. It’s frustrating to have to wait a few more months. I’m hoping for a happy ending to this deal. After that, Microsoft should buy SEGA, Paradox, and CDPR. Then focus on independent studios, there are a lot of good acquisitions to be made there and they won’t be delayed or canceled by regulators.

This is the game Joseph Staten will make, the world looks amazing, the main reason MS should buy WB, move games to movies and movies to games.
I have said for a long time that I’m surprised MS hasn’t got into film (WB) or music (Spotify) like the other tech giants. Film & TV makes more sense to have that synergy with games and vice versa like you say.
WB has huge IP with DC Comics (Batman), Harry Potter, Lego, Matrix, Game of Thrones, Westworld, Scooby Doo and Powerpuff Girls etc.
Just imagine if Hogwarts Legacy was exclusive to Xbox earlier this year or a new Batman Arkham game, it would be huge!
Are you sure this is the game Joseph is working on?
Nah, that industry is too volatile right now and they would face all of WB’s problems.
I’m curious. Are you optimistic about James Gunn’s new DC Comics Cinematic Universe? Which characters from the DC Comics universe would you like to see adapted into a video game and which studio should be in charge of developing the game?
I don’t know if the movie and TV industry is a good thing for Microsoft, but as a gamer I’m a big fan of Mortal Kombat and I think there are some good adaptations to be made with the DC Comics catalog. Beyond known superheroes, we could explore the Vertigo catalog through darker narrative games. I’m thinking of series like Watchmen, Fables, Sandman, Hellblazer, American Vampire, Preacher, Doom Patrol, Lucifer, Northlanders…
The potential is huge, both for Xbox and for Warner, so I’m joining you on the Warner train. I also think that companies like Spotify and Discord could be interesting to diversify the business. A discounted subscription that bundles Spotify, Max, and Gamepass would likely be appreciated by many people.
I don’t know what Microsoft thinks about it, but I’m in!
Personally I think if anyone could turn DC around at this point it’s likely going to be Gunn! The decisions DC have been making lately (for live action) is really disappointing, especially when their animation has been great.
Like you say there’s so many opportunities outside of the main lineup, assuming they did they would be fools not to utilise Batman as a minimum but I like the idea of a Doom Patrol game. Maybe something on Vixen, Swamp Thing or Zatanna would be interesting too. I wonder if Dark Horse might also change ownership with Embracers issues?
I would suggest most people on this forum already have a subscription to either Spotify or a Film/TV streaming service (or both). Much like Amazon’s Prime service I have been tempted to try out other services/products as it was either included in my subscription or subsidised. I do feel a discounted subscription could move some serious numbers and expand GamePass very quickly. Once they start utilising the IP too the opportunities are endless.
My biggest dream is still MS buying Larian and Bioware.
Imagine Inexile, Bioware, Larian, Obsidian and Blizzard all under one roof!! The potential collaboration is out of this world!
Operation save Bioware
Exaaaacttly
I don’t know if BioWare would be worth it. Most of the veterans and key staff who worked on BioWare during its peak aren’t even at the studio anymore so it wouldn’t be the same BioWare as it was 10 years ago.
I would rather Xbox pick up people who were laid off like Mary Kirby. https://x.com/davidgaider/status/1694489657009115415?s=46&t=x67OgPnK2PNMkoMLA_j70A
Maybe Obsidian would want to build another team that does stuff a little different… That could be really cool.
Now that’s an idea. A second obsidian team made up of ex Bio-ware staff works.

If there was a time to enter the tv and movie industry, now would be the time.
