even with the anti monopoly stuff MS isn’t even edging close to one within gaming so I don’t see this as a strong argument. I fully expect MS not only to make more but ABK to just be the tip of the iceberg with these acquisitions
I am not sure that MS cares where a studio/publisher comes from as much as people like to make out they do tbh gramted a Japanese publisher wouldn’t shock me but I doubt SE much more than I once did
Yeah, Assuming MS next buy is from JP Capcom makes a lot of sense due to the diverity, them being one of the companies which is pretty much solely a gaming company and them owning very high profile IP
LOL, I find these purchases hillarious because if they were concerned about it being blocked I doubt ABK would buy stuff while the acquisition is processing
The Tsujimoto family might not want to sell. But their shareholders might have different interests. Although if Kenzo and his sons are vehemently against a buyout, idk if it would be a good idea since they are beloved by there employees.
In 2018 Microsoft was allegedly close to acquire Capcom. Jeff Gerstman & Patrick Klepek hinted about it at the time. But Monster Hunter made them a ton of cash.
And Capcom has been on an upward trend since. Only way it happens is if their business tales a major downturn. Could happen, but anytime this generation seems unlikely to me.
capcom is publicly traded, the board of directors can personally be sued if they don’t try and maximise shareholder wealth, so shareholders can force a sale if you will
capcom isn’t worth that much. Even if MS paid a 100% premium which won’t happen that would only mean they would cost $13.14 billion. Capcom is in a good position though so it would be a bigger premium
Why? They are literally one of the biggest companies in the world who has made a ton of acquisitions in the past and is pretty focused on gaming and has said they are scared of companies like amazon buying all this stuff…why would they care about the support, MS is the same as capcom in the sense they only exist to maximise shareholder wealth
Unless Microsoft wants to dive deep into MMO, there is nothing much to do in Korean dev market after Blizzard acquisition. If they interested in that then I vote for Pearl Abyss - they are less than 1b and DokeV looks cool But Nexon (fell from 30b to 16b) or NCSoft (fell from 19b to 6b) might be viable options too.
One of the problems with korean publishers is that most of the time they are locked into korean market. But I am not sure about dynamics in the whole asian market. ABK gives Microsoft a strong foothold there though.
It is not how any of it works. I think Capcom will be 8-9b at best.
Yeah their market cap is about $6.57 Billion so about that $8-9 Billion feels about right but I could see it going closer to $10 Billion potentially. It depends on the premium, they are in a good position so they would probably get a higher one so lets match ABK premium for simplicity (could be less) leaving us with a price a little higher than $9.5 Billion
It of course can reach 10b. Especially if bidding involved. And I am sure that for Capcom there will be several interested entities (EA will again propose to merge lol). Sony will again ask for some partnership deal (probably specifically for Resident Evil), Nintendo for Monster Hunter etc.
From MS and others giants perspective Capcom still lack a cash cow live service IP for them to be a worthy ~$10B investment but I could be wrong, just observation.
I mean they could always make one if they cared that much, a monster hunter one feels pretty obvious, but I think they are vastly more intrested in the IPs, like even outside of MS Amazon maybe intrested in them for example since they can use their IP for movies and TV shows, their games could go into luna and so on then Amazon could boost the value of prime by $30 a year or something
