The only thing I’d add is getting support teams in place for Activision Blizzard as well (if it’d help anyway) - I think they can do a lot to make the production more stable and efficient and get the other creative teams back to making their own content but perhaps picking up some extra support teams to aid in that wouldn’t hurt either.
I think before ABK got acquired there was some report saying ABK were planning on adding thousands more employees
I’d like to think if they are doing that they might be able to free up some of the studios that have been forced to work on CoD
They r already acquired tho
Microsoft with ABK doesn’t even have 15% market and u r talking about monopoly idk man don’t agree with anything u said they will continue to acquire until they feel like it’s too much
Correct me if I’m, but wasn’t there a rumor from Jeff Grub or was it someone else that said CDPR was thinking about remaking the original Cyberpunk too?
I want to say it was to be more of a remake like how inXile remade Wasteland and not like what CDPR is doing with the first Witcher.
If that is true and still happening, that would be one more game.
Plus I have to imagine CDPR would bring back Keanu Reeves also.
I would not call Sega or Capcom small publisher.
If compare to western behemoth like EA, Take2 they are small , but in terms of Japanese Pub’s Sega and Capcom are very big.
It’s sad to see Ubisoft in this situation and to think that it could work on incredible intellectual property if Microsoft bought them :

Of course, there are other very interesting publishers, but admit that it’s a great opportunity to bring regular and incredible content to Xbox. I wonder if Microsoft will acquire them. If not, someone else will, or Ubisoft will slowly disappear. Ubisoft needs help, and I don’t want to let them die.
I didn’t say they were a monopoly but that they wouldn’t move towards that direction. The topic was mostly discussed on Xbox chaturdays (15) Xbox Chaturdays 100: The State of Xbox in 2023 & Is the ABK Deal Finally Done? w/Jez Corden - YouTube
As for Ubisoft I just think it’s workforce is too large to take on now as staff in an uncertain economy.
I also think new forms of businesses are starting like Embracer acquiring Crystal Dynamics while letting Amazon fund and publish the next Tomb Raider. Couldn’t Ubisoft do similar have their risky projects funded and published by another or even collaborate with other publisher studios.
Sony could get Ubisoft also in a dynamic industry like this they just might find their footing again.
Would make sense, another publisher would help carry the burden/risk. I’m sure Xbox would be happy to publish Splinter Cell or work with them on some other games.
Wouldn’t working with other publishers on projects just cut their small profit margins even further? It’s an interesting idea and I’m curious to see how it works out for Embracer but I think for Ubisoft this would only make things worse
I don’t think Ubisoft will disappear anytime soon. Tencent has been investing in them quite a bit.
It’s hard to imagine Phil wanting to take on 20,000 more employees, especially with a publisher that has been on a downward trend and is in the middle of correcting its course.
Don’t get me wrong. I do like the idea of having a huge workforce that Xbox could have helping across the Xbox family, or even picking up IP that hasn’t been used, but it seems like a huge opportunity cost.
I’d rather see Asobo, Certain Affinity, IOI, Platinum and Sega brought in first. Then whatever lol
Reduced profit but they spend less because the game is being funded by an outside publisher. Would drastically reduce their risk, which seems important when their biggest problem is not getting projects out.
That’s true, I wasn’t giving enough credit to the money they’d save in the process - but they don’t really seem to have any trouble funding projects (finishing projects perhaps) - sharing the costs and profits with another company doesn’t really fix the companies core problem that their profit margins are just too low for a company that size.
All this Japan talk with congress means they are gearing up to making purchases in Japan imo.
It may not totally eliminate the problem, but it can help another thing is they can act in part as contractors or support studios. 343 for example could use proper studio collaboration like THE INITIATIVE instead of the temporary contracting that has held them up. Ubisoft can focus more on fewer established franchises and have the rest of their teams help in the industry, this way they can make money and have the other developers or publishers handle the financing of staff.
That would be nice. They have been quite fortunate in using their opportunities. Getting Sega will be huge for them.
Looks like Iron Galaxy messed up yet another PC port (TLOU). Between this port, the pretty shoddy Uncharted port and Rumbleverse, I hope Microsoft steer well clear of buying them.
It was NaughtyDog themselves which took over the PC porting a while back, no? Pretty sure you can find the tweets and posts saying as much earlier. Though now that its known to be in a bad state the blame is being pushed away from NaughtyDog. If that is the true situation, its funny to see the defensive narratives play out.
It seems like both helped on the port but obviously ND will get the blame as its their franchise. Iron Galaxy also ported Arkham Knight to Windows which was known to have…issues.
