Asobo with more resources and collaboration with Coalition and Ninja Theory will make stuff in the top tier levels of the industry imo
I am not sure if Microsoft is limiting their resources right now. Though probably they are more tied to a publisher and thus have restrictions.
Not sure what you mean. If Asobo become first party they will have access to more resources and collaboration with other Xbox studios, as is expected, and that will make whatever they create even much better due to that.
I mean that even without an acquisition, I am not sure if Microsoft is limiting the budget for Asobo. Like for a flight simulator for example.
Oh right yeah of course, Flight Sim is a marvelous and expensive piece of software and their highest rated game, and probably also their most successful commercially.
I suspect Minecraft is much more commercially viable but I agree Flight Sim definitely isn’t cheap, it’s a technical wonder and one of their highest rated games critically.
Yep I’m going to stay on the Asobo & Focus Entertainment train.
I can imagine Asobo, but not Focus
I didn’t mean Xbox Game Studios games, just Asobo. From XGS, there are definitely more successful games than Flight Sim.
Ah sorry, yep for Asobo it probably is their most commercially viable game.
Xbox not getting Asobo could be their version of not buying rare
Eh I would think not getting Bungie, Bioware, and Respawn would be like not getting Rare, but I am of the firm belief that nobody will acquire Asobo unless Xbox lets them at this point. Xbox pretty much has to get them if they are available at this point.
I wasnt a fan of the idea about xbox buying to attack sony directly but after seeing that silent hills event I will just say, BUY CAPCOM, get rid of those hypocrites once and for all
Not sure why people think “scorched earth” Microsoft will come out to play if ABK is blocked.
If ABK is blocked I highly doubt they will be allowed to buy Capcom, Sega, Square enix etc.
From my understanding CMA doesn’t even think Microsoft should be allowed to have exclusives from the studios they bought. They even mentioned Starfield…
Ludicrous in my opinion but this is the world we live in
Given that this is the biggest tech purchase ever and the only bone of contention is Call of Duty (and no mention of Candy Crush and Warcraft) i feel confident Monster Hunter and anything under Sega are small enough to pass toot suite…the only hump i’d even expect is Final Fantasy XIV…and even then. .Elder Scrolls Online was sold.
CMA’s entire argument seems to revolve around CoD
None of the publishers you mentioned have anything close to CoD
I also don’t think Microsoft are going to go scorched earth if the deal fails, I think it’ll be business as usual all around for the most part - but I also don’t think this will affect future acquisitions except for suggesting a stricter regulation process than perhaps we’d otherwise have expected. Activision is a 70 billion dollar acquisition, pretty much everything Microsoft would realistically buy is significantly smaller and would be less of a regulatory challenge.
The last time I recall (and this was a couple of years ago), Asobo weren’t interested in being purchased by Microsoft. This might have changed recently, but until Asobo say something, I will stick to their last statement.
Absolutely, but as we’ve seen before, multiple studios have changed their stances on that (Ninja Theory, Bungie, Double Fine, Insomniac, etc).
I guess it always depends on what their reason for being independent is. Is it to inflate their value? Because if it’s to create multiplat games I’m not sure they’d be doing exclusivity deals.
Who knows though.
