Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Still don’t think CDPR has any reason to sell at the bottom of their value.

Capcom is up there. Resident evil, devil may cry, monster hunter.

One could argue that re4 is one of the best 3rd person game ever made.

I think at this point in time it would be a crying shame if MS wasn’t looking at CDPR.

Since the update I’ve been having a blast with Cyberpunk 2077 and just imagine what they could do if they weren’t forced to rush future projects to market, plus have MS’ financial backing too.

With CDPR announcing several games I think that is a sign the studio is healthy and wants to show they are ripe for the taking.

So if MS has the chance they Need to acquire them.

Healthy + undervalued doesn’t mean ripe for the taking IMO. It means they can afford to grow their value and get back to what they think they are worth before considering an acquisition. Unless someone wants to buy at a significant premium of course.

Not sure if I dig CDPR…imagine buying a dev that doesn’t own its own IP’s

Now …if they buy CDPR and lock up the next Witcher games and Cyberpunk games as exclusive…THAT would be worth it 100%

They own The Witcher and Cyberpunk IPs.

lol

They have the rights to it but I don’t believe they flat out own them

Actually I just looked it up and CDPR is worth 2.2B$ I read 11B but that’s PLN which converts to 2.2B$

2.2B$ also looked their roadmap and we have

2 Witcher spin off games New Witcher trilogy Cyberpunk sequel New IP

Shit for 2B$ (i imagine it’d cost at least 4$ to pick them up though) that’s actually not a bad buy

They have the flat out rights to make Witcher games (the reason why Witcher books author was angry) and own the cyberpunk IP . CDPR said this in a shareholder meeting . Ive linked it before in this thread .

CDPR won’t be for sale at this or even close to this value and why would they, they’re not financially distressed.

They are in a period of expansion as they aim to not only work on multiple projects at once but have shorter gaps between game releases, as well as funding external game development of spin off titles. These are some pretty lofty aspirations for studio - maybe they’d be looking at an acquisition as an opertunity to have access to a larger companied resources. The simple answer is who knows really, plenty of reasons for a company to sell beyond struggling financially.

GTAV is huge, but Take Two is worth 10 times the price of CRPR and would be much harder to acquire. Not to mention that GTA should probably stay cross-platform. I think CDPR would be a better option, especially since it works on 3 licenses simultaneously. With Microsoft’s budget and time, Cyberpunk wouldn’t have seen such a launch. I think the studio could become really huge in the right hands (More staff, more budget, more time, and fewer constraints).

I loved this game (less than TW3), I’m glad the Netflix series revived the hype. It’s clearly one of the best studios on the market and a great way to boost the value of your catalog without getting stopped by regulators. I can’t wait to discover their third IP.

They are fantastic games I agree, however Rockstar seem to concentrate on the smallest of details. I mean in Red Dead they even had a guy work on the horses balls so they shrink/grow based on the weather. You don’t get that level of attention in most games.

That said Ninja Theory’s sequel to Hellblade is looking to be phenomenal.

Think they plan to use their newer acquired north american studios to help with the development of the new titles and also think financing if they need it will be no problem,i’d imagine they’re confident the company’s value will be much higher closer to their release and be reluctant to sell at close to multi year lows. Speculative of course from my part but can’t see that the new Witcher titles will be anything but big hits with their experience and pedigree there albeit they’ll be using the new Unreal engine now instead of their own which they know through and through.

Oh I definitely think any acquisition target would come with a hefty premium, they wouldn’t sell on a dip otherwise, but Bungie were plenty successful with Destiny as well and they sold in part to have access to deeper pockets to expand with. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the same with CDPR, even if they are quite successful as is. Also while there’s clearly a lot of talent at CDPR their expansion plan sounds, well, pretty optimistic - they make MASSIVE games and typically take 4/5 years per game (which needed to be 6 or 7 in Cyberpunks case). They’re currently planning to make a Cyberpunk sequel alongside a new trilogy of Witcher games released in 2 year intervals and they have a third IP in early development, so that’s currently 4 games planned for release over the next decade, maybe 5? And that’s before you even get into the externally produced games and a multimedia push they’d be overseeing. I’m hopeful they can pull it off but they could also end up stretched too thin over so many projects and struggle.

honestly the bigger nightmare I have with CDPR is them being either acquired by Sony or Netflix due to the synergy between their IP and their exploring of TV/anime. Sony is probably unlikely but it wouldn’t surprise me if Netflix was very interested.

I just think given CDPR’s ambitious roadmap, the expertise Microsoft can provide to CDPR in terms of tech and the unreal engine V support hub within Xbox game studios paired, with the strength of gamepass would be an extremely mutually beneficial move.

fundamentally though, I just don’t think you reveal your next 10-15 year roadmap without part of the reason being to get the attention of someone who may be interested in acquiring. it wouldn’t surprise me if acquisition conversations are only barely starting and won’t go into full swing until part of CDPR’s roadmap hits the market.

It’s an ambitious roadmap but skepticism following cyberpunk 2077’s launch is warranted imho, and I think with Microsoft in particular, being the marketing partner of that game, and having it blow up in your face was probably not pleasant.

I think you do when you are trying to rebuild the trust of your customer base. I think folks are too focused on acquisitions nowadays.
