Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Something like this would be cool. Sign a deal with Devolver and even Annapurna, all games come to Xbox day one + Game Pass. No exclusivity involved necessarily.

Guess that ruins my dream of Recore 2

If we look at previous Bethesda / ABK acquisitions

They acquired Bethesda which is considered the biggest RPG studio

ID Software is considered the best FPS Studio

Blizzard is considered the best Studio of Hack’n Slash, RTS, MMO, Card Games and Heros Shooter they are developing the first survival game with AAA means and StoryTelling Blizzard

Microsoft tries to represent as best as possible all genres of games but they still have difficulty offering the genre to the 3rd person and the masters of this genre of games are Rockstar (still ahead of Sony)

Owning Minecraft which is the best Sandbox, World of Warcraft the best MMO, Call of Duty the most popular FPS, The Elder Scrolls the best RPG franchise is something totally wild already but only one representative of the 3rd person like a GTA/RDR

This is the last piece of the Puzzle… GTA

If you go for a ride on Twitch these are never moving from the top 20 rankings

We should keep in mind that both Bethesda and ABK was the opportunities. Especially ABK. Nobody expected that.

Rockstar is too slow. And overall Take 2 is not really attractive after ABK. ABK is everything that T2 has but better and inhouse without third party licensing.

Third person games they will solve whether via inhouse development (like Compulsion) or via some third party deal.

The next goal is Japan 100%

Hopefully Square Enix and Capcom.

And please don’t say that the Saudis will acquire Capcom.

I mean we can clearly see that they are looking to have the most popular games in each genre.

Minecraft: Sandbox

World of Warcraft: MMO

Call of Duty: FPS

The Elder Scrolls: RPG

Diablo: Hack’n Slash

Starcraft / Warcraft / Age of Empires: RTS

Forza: Car Racing Simulation …

GTA V is the most popular game in the 3rd person Story Driven genre and nothing comes close and RDR 2 is right behind it. Rockstar masters the genre XBOX is looking for

I know, it would be cool to have Rockstar as a First-Party Developer but i can’t see them adding another western publisher, especially now that Take-Two has acquired Zynga. And after the kerfuffle with Call of Duty, imagine what you have to deal with if you acquire the GTA IP.

I really think that they now will target Japan and start to acquire some Studios/Publishers there.

After two Western-Publishers, i really think that they will now target Eastern/Japanese-Publishers and specifically Square Enix and Capcom.

These two would be the ultimate blow to Sony. (No more Sony deals with Square Enix and no more Sony deals with Capcom.)

I do love this phase for some of you lol.

Damn

ABK deal was a lucky chance. It is coincidentally encompassing a lot of genres. Microsoft wanted to buy them before - sure - but they were not on the table. It is not Microsoft is trying to cover each and every genre. It makes no sense as anybody can come up with a big game in any genre any time.

The problem of Japan is that there is no important IP like a GTA, Minecraft, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, The Elder Scrolls… Etc… and it is really these popular IPs that are looking for Microsoft. GTA in Gamepass could bring hundreds of millions of subscriptions no Japanese IP address can do that

This looks amazing. Exactly my kinda game.

I don’t think that this is entirely accurate.

FF XIV was these last years certainly bigger than World of Warcraft.

And i would argue that Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter are no small IPs. Definitely not on the same scale as GTA, COD or Minecraft but also no slouches either.

No Final Fantasy will never be bigger and more valuable than World of Warcraft which has always had a paid subscription for almost 20 years

Then explain why is so close to have the same playerbase as wow?

This ips have a ton of potential to grow and become just like any franchise that is a titan

WoW is almost 20 years old and it requires a paid subscription if you put a paid subscription to Final Fantasy 14 you are sure to see a lot of players leaving. In addition WoW is only available on PC while Final Fantasy is on PS5 / PS4 + PS3, which is well over 200 million additional platforms compared to World of Warcraft. Over 100 Million players have played World of Warcraft in its lifetime and Shadowlands broke PC sales records .

Devolver doesnt make games or develop technologies. They are just a publisher, a good one, but just that. Extremly doubtful since its already redudant with Xbox. In fact, Double Fine let go of their publisher person because they didnt need him any more.

You are incorrect. FF14 is $15 per month after your initial purchase. It is subscription based.

damn, ReCore might be dead…

Actually. Devolver have multiple developers now, so they do make games too.
