They already own a Japanese studio that’s far from irrelevant. You saw my post and became furious.
I see we are back to this dumbass argument again
They are not buying a japanese company to become massive in Japan, they will be doing it to appeal WORLDWIDE, how do people still not get this?
I would actually like to see Microsoft and Platinum put out a game together before any potential acquisition talk which in its self I find unlikely. Platinum’s current goal is to become a self publisher and if that were to go south I can see them approaching Nintendo about acquiring them rather then Microsoft
People forget every Microsoft game now default ships 30 million copies and rising.
Capcom is ripe. Even Monster Hunter does better in the West now.
Could this cause any problems with a Japanese publisher buyout? Since at this point removing them from Switch is almost like removing then from the JP market in a way… Unless they make it so the publisher can keep releasing on Nintendo hardware (that’s what I’ve been wanting, I know it’s not a fully agreed upon thing though)
Sega actually would be a really good target if this affects anything though. Their Switch sales aren’t even that big, since many of their big titles do not launch on it (Yakuza games, and maybe half the time Atlus games, PSO2 is only a cloud version, etc.)
Regardless, I do think they will get some mid sized studios (and these they can make exclusive with no problem). I would very much like to see tri-Ace, because I think they have potential to make great JRPGs with a budget, and it looks like bankruptcy or being dissolved into Nepron’s mobile studios is their other options. I still don’t think they’ll get a publisher though. Whether it be because they’re kinda all doing really well already, or that almost all of them have a truckload of non gaming businesses.
Idk if “ripe” is the right word there, considering how well Capcom’s been doing since 2017, so they don’t “need” to sell. Monster Hunter is still a massive seller in Japan too, Rise is one of the best selling third party Switch games there (and the game’s existence is a reminder that Capcom does indeed care about their domestic popularity).
See them being acquired by Saudi Arabia
I don’t think it is a big deal. Game Pass + PC will do just fine and they won’t have shareholders bothering them. Square Enix is constantly doing brain decisions and nobdy is concerned
I think if MS buys a Japanese publisher they will at a minimum keep certain things multiplat or at least still release things on switch, I just dont see MS buying a company like Square and them telling them to stop producing those smaller titles for Switch
I don’t really have a problem with them buying a Japanese publisher and keeping everything multiplat and in terms of Switch and Japan it might be the best move overall, Playstation is more debatable though, software wise it’s kinda dead over there anyway
That being said, if MS think they can rely on GP/xCloud to get the audience they need for those games over there then maybe they will just go for it and as said, there is worldwide audience to consider, not just Japan
Afterall phil said that he was interested in several old ips from them, I am sure they will invest more through acquisitions or making new studios(talking about it I want to see someone making a list of possible acwuisitions for activision), I just hope that they will bring back vicarious visions to activision
They where already helping with the crash and tony hawk games
Also I will share the opinion from a friend that consider cdpr and capcom as great acquisitions for ms
For cdpr it would be: Greater amount of resources. ,Maintains independence. ,Support from the US government to Poland. ,Experience in online gaming. ,They would help GOG probably Ms would give games there ,Access to collaborate with Bethesda, Inxile, Obsidian and Playground Games among other studios. ,Good position in Poland. ,A studio with experience in RPG ,Place where to invest enough
For capcom would be: ,Tsjimoto family gains a lot of time possibility to climb to positions of Microsoft Gaming or even Microsoft. ,Better position to negotiate with Disney (Marvel vs Capcom, Predator or aliens). ,Experience in online games and cooperation ,Solid position in Japan ,Fill gaps in the catalog and gender ,A lot of guaranteed content for Game Pass ,Earn valuable Ips
I’d agree with this. At the very least they could limit it to Japanese only ports of titles while keeping titles exclusive outside Japan - maintain goodwill with Japanese gamers and keep the games fanbase intact while drawing people over to the Xbox ecosystem with XCloud. It wouldn’t draw people in as fast as just going fully exclusive but with how small Xbox’s markethold is a less disruptive approach might yield better results in the long run.
These two points are interesting. I have never considered them
Considering just announced partnership between Meta and NBCUniversal for metaverse, it would be interesting if NBCUniversal will merge with Warner Bros in the future…
I can’t imagine a more bottom of the barrel pairing than FaceBook and Peacock…
I don’t see it having any impact on WBD or even Xbox Acquisitions though.
The point is that they mentioned that they bring NBCU IPs to Metaverse. WB IPs might also come with WB acquisition by NBC.
That’s not happening anytime soon as the WBD folks responded to those rumors.
CEO David Zaslav exclaiming, “We are not for sale, absolutely, not for sale.”
I dont think there is any point in talking about WBD acquisition until April 2024 .
Wonder could Devolver Digital be a possible future acquisition? They have had multiple games come to Game Pass day one.
And they very recently announced yet another Devolver Digital game coming to Game Pass day one
I’d personally say it’s one of the less likely ones, but no one saw Activision Blizzard coming, so who knows.
I brought them up before but most responses paraphrased as “they’re just a publisher and don’t do anything Xbox couldn’t do themselves”. I certainly like how they find different sort of games to bring out.
Maybe a partnership for GamePass entries would work well with them?
I think a lot of smaller publishers will work with Microsoft via partnerships, but big ones Microsoft will try to acquire. Small publishers do not have a lot of value.
