The Saudi’s could be buying any gaming company worth less then about $9bn. They do say both for the acquisition and the development of the publisher. So they could be planning to pump a lot of money into whatever publisher they do buy
Over 15 years ago I found out that one of the Saudi princes loved SEGA and me, being bitter about the Sammy SEGA merger, dreamed that this prince would buy SEGA and make them a full on games company and hardware manufacturer again.
And the weird thing is, nearly 20 years later… They might be a possibility. They already grabbed SNK, which seems somewhat consistent with being a gaming fan during the '90s.
I really hope this ABK deal wraps up soon so MS could make their move on Japanese pubs…
If it is really one of japanese publishers like Sega orCapcom, then I think the podcasts will be interesting Because a lot of people will think (rightfully or not) that Microsoft missed this acquisition due to ABK and so on. I do hope that if it is really one of those, Microsoft has plan B for Japan otherwise missing a publisher like this would be bonkers.
SA are diversifying their economy + MBS said he was gamer or something. Considering his age he might have some 90s nostalgia annd money.
I hope people here look into the the savvy group and the seriously horrible things the ownership has supported and done. I’d rather they stay far, far away from gaming.
Are you seriously going to…never mind. Not worth my time. Thanks for the tip pal.
I know this is slightly off topic so I’ll keep it as brief as I can, but also make sure my message is clear.
I get both sides of this argument and I’ve basically just come down to the idea it’s nearly impossible to live a 100% ethical life due to every factor out there. At this point, it’s kinda up to each consumer on how they spend their own money.
For example, does it feel ethical to be giving Amazon any money when they literally have employees dying in their warehouses? Or when they keep ambulances on standby outside their buildings because it’s cheaper than other safety methods? I’d say absolutely not, but how many of us here have Prime or standard services from them?
I’ll go to Hobby Lobby or Chick File if my group of friends really want to go, but i won’t go in my own free time because I don’t agree with some of their ethics.
Same can be said for some of these gaming companies (and bigger corporations getting into gaming). There are plenty of great people that work at them, but of course the company’s worst qualities can sour my feelings on buying their products (whether it’s at full price or a discount).
At a certain point, you have to choose your own battles. I don’t blame anyone for being on the fence for any similar scenario.
I think everyone knows… I don’t think anyone here is “welcoming” the Saudis into gaming acquisitions or celebrating their planned acquisition. Believe me, if there was a way to stop their bloodstained money from moving that’d be great, but unfortunately money makes the world go round and there’s nothing we can do about the situation. Just do remember, whoever gets acquired, it doesn’t mean the studio accepts what their new ownership has done… It was just a purely monetary business deal.
To be clear, I’m not condemning anyone or saying anyone should do anything other than educate themselves when they can and go from there based on their personal belief, situation, whatever. That’s all.
They already effectively own SNK, so probably another Japanese studio.
In a filing on Friday, the European competition watchdog confirmed it has set a provisional deadline of November 8 to clear the $68.7 billion deal or choose to enter a second, more detailed investigation phase.
Expected, but it’s not gonna change anything
I hope Microsoft learnt their lesson with Sony. Considering Satya’s comment, I guess Microsoft will “compete” with Sony for real now.
Well Microsoft isn’t trying to be nasty. They still believe Sony can still be a potential customer for Cloud and other Microsoft services
At this point, I think Sony is going to go with Google or Amazon for cloud services.
SEga has franchises that can come back. Crazy Taxi, Shemue, Shining Force, Skies of Arcadia…
Why the fuck haven’t Sega done a new Skies of Arcadia? This is what MS need to do. Pay Sega for an exclusive series of games but also help them develop it. Exclusive day 1 Gamepass Skies of Arcadia 2
It would make the internet go mental.
Google and/or Amazon will bleed them dry for their content and charge Sony a lot…and Knowing the Sony fanbase Like I do…they won’t give 2 shits about Cloud gaming right now. A very small % of the xbox community even does so.
For Sony…they should focus on just making the content that people want to play…worry about Cloud later.
I think they’re not set up for it currently, but when they are, it will be with Google or Amazon. Currently Sony’s app on android apparently allows people to buy games.
So they do have enough dealings that either Sony is willing to share revenue from purchases with Google.
Edit: Sorry, wanted to say that I was definitely mixing things up with some of the leaks we got from the apple court case. Edited out the parts about it having anything to do with Google, but kept what relevance there is that would have Sony and Google working together for any future game streaming situation. Because if Sony is willing to share their revenue to get their store on Android than Microsoft should do the same at some point.
