Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Do what exactly?

Studios Xbox needs: certain affinity, asobo, io interactive, platinum. If possible crystal dynamics from embracer.

I would never ask for another studio if that list happens. #dreamscenario

I’m an Asobro to the end! This list looks like gold to me.

For context the Guillemot family owns roughly 13.2 -16% of Ubisoft’s total shares which I assume is held through this company. I think this reaffirms that while they are looking for outside investment they are aiming to do so in a way that keeps the control of the company in their hands.

So basically they bought 49.9% of the Guillemot’s stakes?

If I understand it correctly I think this makes them effectively financially invested in Ubisoft, but there’s a level of separation between them and actually owning a portion of Ubisoft. For example I don’t think this would give them any voting rights in any Ubisoft investor matters, as the Guillemots owning 50.1% of the Guillemot Bros company gives them effective control over all of the shares the company owns. But I’d could be wrong, if someone knows these things better (or, like, at all) and wants to correct me I’d be interested to know exactly how this works.

“If someone wants to make a bid for the whole of Ubisoft, it still can, and the bid will be reviewed by our board,” Chief Financial Officer Frederick Duguet said in an interview.

The company is begging to be bought out lol

It’s moments like these that I’d love to know what all the major gaming and entertainment companies are thinking while looking at similar situations.

Ubisoft does not have a bright future unless they find a random success.

I think they will do a lot better by letting their developers work on the games that they want instead of more live service titles, aswell by bringing back old ips

Not surprising news but glad they haven’t been brought out. As repetitive and dull I find Ubisoft now they do have a fantastic set of IP that wish they’d do something with or even sell.

It’s worth remembering this is a fairly standard answer - as a publicly traded company they are legally obligated to do exactly this. Plus this was a part of an interview, I can’t find the source on that but it’s entirely possible the question was relating to a possible acquisition.

should Microsoft invest money to build a working relationship with Mundfish if Atomic Heart gets really good reviews?

Doesn’t even have to be an acquisition, but an Xbox Global Publishing title would be neat.

Wait till the game is out.

As much as I’d love this, due to them being Russian and some of the rumors that have gone on around the years about their work culture, I’m not so sure Microsoft would be too interested in the short-term. Maybe years down the line if the team shows efficiency and/or quality.

With that said, I’m really rooting for this team. I remember seeing the very early stuff for Atomic Heart and it seemed too good to be true, but it looks like it’s shaping up really well. The fact they’re going out of their way to try being the next Bioshock or Half-Life is exciting, but also potentially worrisome.

They honestly remind me of Techland in more ways than one.

I suppose we well see a Techland’s acquisition pretty soon due the upcoming Poland (and many other European countries) troubles. The best Poland companies could fail for the High costo of the Energy.

Ubisoft seems to be off the table at the moment. Unfortunately, I don’t think this partnership with Tencent is the right solution for Ubisoft. The direction of the company will not change and the golden age of Ubisoft will be a distant memory.

What about Microsoft? SEGA is probably the publisher who makes most sens to date. The success (or not) of Hyenas will probably be decisive. And of course you have the partner studios which can be interesting, even if many come without a major license (IOI, Certain Affinity, Asobo, Int./Night, Frontier, Platinum Games, Stoic, Double Eleven, Iron Galaxy, Oxide Games, Blackbird Interactive, Crytek, People Can Fly, Remedy, Avalanche Studios…). We’ll see if the next acquisition is organic or if Microsoft has decided to surprise us once again with something completely unexpected. I’ve also seen a lot of talk about acquiring a studio capable of developing games similar to From Software’s. I think A44 Games does a good job in this area. Their next game looks very promising, I think it could be interesting to exploit the potential of the studio to take it to a whole new level. Just my two cents.
