So basically never I guess.
Of course, I’m certainly not gonna suggest Microsoft would buy a company simply because it’s available. There’s going to be a ton of strategizing and thought behind any acquisition and if it’s not a good fit it’s not a good fit - but the final decision is also entirely dependant on the opportunity being there so that will still be a part of what shapes the future of Xbox first party.
Konami certainly has a lot of great IPs, but at this point they’ve been pretty well gutted of internal studios. IF someone were to buy Konami they’d either have to repurpose their internal studios to work on Konami IPs (ultimately this doesn’t actually improve how many games you put out, and since Microsoft is quite keen on developer freedom you’d specifically need developers who want to work on them), start new studios (which is difficult enough in the industry right now - but starting MULTIPLE at once is particularly hard) or outsource in “2nd party” deals or acquire studios to work on the IPs. Or some combination of all three. I mean, it’s not all downsides - there’s some great IPs with pre-existing fanbases that could be utilised. But it’s a lot of work, and a big risk since without original talent you’re not exactly guaranteed to succeed. The best case scenario here is honestly that Konami eventually sells off their IPs and some teams that want to work on them can try to acquire them.
As for Kojima - there’s certainly a chance he’s want to give Silent Hills another chance but he was pretty vocal about his desire to move on from Metal Gear for quite a long while. I don’t think there’s much chance he’d go back willingly.
Thats the thing, I dont think konami is going to sell it to a studio that wants to work on it, they will give it to the one that pays more
Xbox isnt foing to force their own studios to work on them, there is plenty developers to bring them back, like you can easily give silent hill to to bokeh studios or m-two
Thank you, i really don’t like that some people are so disrespectful/ignorant just because they don’t like a publisher or some games they develop.
I would argue that Tales of Arise is the best JRPG since Persona 5.
Tales of Vesperia was my favorite JRPG from the PS3/360 Generation.
The Licensed Games from Bandai Namco don‘t have always the highest quality but i am really curious about the One Piece JRPG.
Is being made by an external developer, thats what I am talking about namco could easily let more developers work with xbox
Yeah, the same developer that made the Diamond and Pearl Remakes for Nintendo.
And we should also no forget that Bandai Namco is currently developing their own MMO with Blue Protocol, which could also be huge in the future and i‘m not sure if there are already platforms announced except PC.
It does feel like there are certain users on here who are willing to dismiss any data/statements as facts, yet argue any comment(s) you make with their own opinion as the only truthful ‘facts’.
When you ask them to backup their opinion they either can’t or change the context/topic completely.
For me Bandai Namco is to be low on the excitement level, none of their games interest me. I mean I would play the upcoming Pac Man world remake but that’s about it.
Also where did all this talk of them going after Bamco come from?
Let’s go get us a Capcom, Sega, Koei or EA. Or 10 devs studios.
I think that every one of the big japanese Publishers would give Microsoft/XBOX something that they need. Whether it is for the IP‘s or the development capabilities.
Every single one would give them instant credibility and valuable connections in the japanese development landscape.
And every one of the big japanese publishers has made a or several objectively great games.
I would love for them to get SEGA, Capcom or Bandai Namco but I would also be happy if it is Square or Koei Tecmo. Every single one would bring something to Microsoft/XBOX.
I believe there was a post from someone claiming his uncle worked for Xbox (I think it was his uncle) which provided him information which alluded to them acquiring Bandai Namco. I think it has since been deleted as he unfortunately got alot of kickback (I couldn’t find it).
Personally no disrespect to him/her, but I don’t really hold any of those types of posts with any regard without sources or facts. I personally have family members which work at Xbox too but I would never post about what they tell me, not that they would be in a position to know about acquisitions anyway.
I am not big on Ubisoft but they are still possible, from my understanding Tencent will end with 20% of Ubisoft ownership meaning if MS did buy them they would just end up with 20% of the money paid or conversly 20% of the voting shares meaning if they don’t want the sale to go though they get 20% of the say which is a lot but not enough to realistically prevent it IMO
yeah Konami will give to whoever offers the most but this is assuming they even want to sell the IP because while game wise most are dead I believe Konami is still making quite a bit of money out of pachinko and merchandising those IPs (hell also NFTs)
I know, but their teams editted the presentations. I am saying if they didn’t want/like MS shouting out a competitor they would of cut it. That is all I am saying
yeah and that is an opinion, there is nothing factual about it
ah fair enough then, I was just pointing it out incase. Then to an extent I agree but we don’t know what those oppitunities are, for example a company might decide to sell while they are high up so they can sell for more than they potential could in the future (look at yahoo rejecting the oppintunity to sell for $45 Billion and ending up selling for $9 Billion as an example of this). If MS wanted a company not actively looking to sell they probably could but it depends on how much they are willing to spend and if said company doesn’t want to sell the premium will probably be very high and these are facts we have 0 idea of knowing the answers too
Ah I love the tales of games, while I don’t think Namco is a great get I will say the tales of series are amazing (and being honest probably my favourate RPG franchises in general)
if we are talking about the big to mid publishers I think this logic applies for everyone though (except CDPR in my opinion). Hell even WB games which I think is a bad buy if they don’t get the game rights to shit like DC has positives like adding a big fighting game to Microsoft’s portfolio and having tons of teams that could revive old games (e.g. tt games could revive banjo kazooie)
Love your point here on wanting to sell, a lot of folks seem to think Microsoft can just buy anyone if they offer enough, it really just doesn’t work that way. That’s why I tend to circle back to WB and Ubisoft so often as they are on record saying they would like to sell or are at least open to it. As far as embracer goes I agree if they do try to acquire anything from Embracer my opinion is they would cherry pick from their studios and countless publishing arms.
I think for Japanese publishers Capcom checks all of the boxes for Microsoft.
Multiplayer franchises and GaaS: Monster Hunter, Street Fighter
Single player franchise: Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Dragon Dogma
Plus, you can fill up gamepass with legacy franchsies like megaman, dead rising, Onimusha, Ace Attorney, etc.
Oh yeah, while I think embracer as a whole isn’t a great acquisition - they still absolutely have some excellent studios I think Microsoft could do well with. If Embracer ever wanted to sell some it would be worth a look by Microsoft.
Yes, I agree. As would Sega and Bandai. Which are willing to sell though?
Of the major japanese publishers it seems Square is the one that wants to sell, and I doubt Microsfot goes for them. Of those 3 you mentioned it seems Sega would be most likely to sell
I think that if were are looking both short and long term basis:
Sega would be the pick to choose, do i think they would be willing to sell? Not for the foreseeable future. A partnership with Xbox? That i could see in a heartbeat.
Anyhow, i found these tweets to be particularly interesting in a way. Especially with this indie publisher (No more Robots): https://twitter.com/RaveofRavendale/status/1557334225744969729

A partnership per chance?
I highly doubt that Xbox can secure any exclusive game based on anime/manga IP. The purpose of license holders is to promote the IP. You cannot do that if you limit to the smallest platform there. If Xbox gains more traction (at least at Playstation level) then maybe Playstation might reach 2m consoles eventually if not more while Xbox has yet to reach 500k. Even Sony could not make Demon Slayer game exclusive (which probably would happen last gen), much less Xbox.
Square Enix would resolve JPRG issues, but internally it is a huge mess and I don’t see anybody buying it (even Sony)
I suspect that a lot of japanese developers do not make the games for Xbox due to lack of experience or staff as I would not be surprised that people going in game dev tend to favor Playstation/Nintendo/PC there out of habit.
He was pretty open in his support of Game Pass (constantly praises GP) so not surprised.
I went through the games that was recently released by Bamco (grouped some of them)
All in all, as soon as ABK deal closes - within the half of the year we might see something interesting.
I think you dismiss the fact that there were already Anime Games that were exclusive on XBOX, like the Naruto Games (Broken Bond and Rise of a Ninja) and the Dragon Ball Kinect game on 360.
