Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Add Warner and the list is good, with (in my opinion) the probability : Ubisoft > EA > Warner > Take Two > SEGA > Capcom

Yep. Netflix issues is they arent owned by big tech or have alternate areas of revenue as Amazon and Disney do.

I would say, if Gamepass like netflix reached 238 million subs and then hit a rut…just tailor your release schedule to be sustainable to that amount. 238m x $120 a year is $28.5B. More than enough for 8-10 AAA games a year and a modest number of indies. Im not expecting that to happen, because i dont expect gamepass to have that kind of pushback that Disney+ has to Netflix.

The fun thing that even with that it would only amount to 15% of Microsoft revenue of 200b per year :joy:

I more meant I did not know if you were speaking on the terms of speculation or fact

I don’t see WB games personally at all, I don’t see why MS would be intrested, unless we are talking WBD which a completely different discussion due to the movie/TV division. For me in terms of chance I would say EA > Ubisoft > Take Two > Capcom > SEGA

I don’t think Microsoft will acquire Netflix but here are some interesting articles as a reason for them to join Microsoft.

People forget that Microsoft bought Xandr from AT&T half of year ago (granted article mentioned that). Microsoft has been preparing for entrance into ad market - with F2P games and now with Netflix. I wonder what are the terms of the contract though.

Yes, I’m talking about Warner Discovery. I’m pretty sure there will be discussions for Ubisoft. I think Guillemot wants the company to be acquired by Microsoft. It is in his interest. The only element that would prevent this acquisition is that another major publisher (EA or Take Two) is favorable to the idea of joining Microsoft. If Microsoft has to choose between EA/Take Two or Ubisoft, of course they will choose EA/Take Two. Otherwise I’m pretty sure Ubisoft will be next.

Regarding WB we have to decide here what people mean by that. I personally stick to either of this three

  • WB full (doubt)
  • WB gaming IP (potentially)
  • NRS (believe)

And I will go Capcom >> T2 > Sega > WB > SE >> Ubisoft >= EA but I am the minority here :man_shrugging:

They can get anything they want if they are willing to pay for it, just like they can get GTA6 Day 1. The point is that some games sell so well and make so much money that it is cost prohibitive to make those deals. Fifa and Madden make an order of magnitude more money than MLB and they don’t have much to gain, so getting those games is very much an “offer I can’t refuse” kind of situation. It is definitely not cheaper long term.

And it has less to do with the NFL and NBA and more to do with EA. Unless you’re implying that Microsoft will make first party sports games.

It will be interesting to see how it works out. I do think that Microsoft is just looking for partnerships at the moment for advertisements and it doesn’t really mean much other than a partnership. But I could also see Microsoft one day consider acquiring them for the right price and if things work out really well. Since Netflix would be a great fit for Microsoft if they want to expand into tv/movie streaming and Netflix is serious about gaming and wants to succeed in gaming.

I do think Netflix would be an expensive acquisition though and probably more than they would if they were to acquire WB/Discovery or Paramount so I don’t think it will happen anytime soon.

Well then yeah, I considered that a different thing entirely personally. Also Guillemot doesn’t have a majority share so it doesn’t really matter what he wants which I believe what he wants is to make the company private so it can’t be acquired being honest

well we know EA is apparently looking to sell and these companies have a legal obligation to maximise shareholder wealth so MS could force someone like T2 to sell due to that…also their is a possibility that someone like Amazon comes in and just make a better offer than MS and grab Ubisoft or one of these others

I mean, their is no issue with disagreeing

I think getting their hands on a Japanese dev would make a splash to be honest. It’s not about the money, it’s about sending a message, right?

I think Sega makes more sense for their current strategy with Gamepass as it covers both consoles and PC considering the studios they own, but bringing in Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Devil May Cry exclusively to Xbox would turn quite a few heads to be honest and MS already enjoys a healthy relationship with Sega anyway! Although again, Sonic is a pretty important mascot, and it being associated with Xbox would also be meaningful; much more than Mega Man imo. They’d probably keep releasing Sonic titles on Switch though, would only make sense to.

Honestly though, looking at all the big players that are left, I think they can all make sense. After ABK, anything they pile on will just keep bringing more and more people into their ecosystem imo, as everything they probably have their eyes on that is left are major publishers.

Even something like Namco Bandai would be huge with all the anime licensed game you’d get exclusively. It’s all wins in my book.

At this point I think Warner Bros Discovery is the best possible acquisition.

-HBO Max as SVOD platform -DC Comics Universes -Wizarding World (Harry Potter) -Looney Tunes / Tom and Jerry -Game Of Thrones -Rick and Morty (funny video game potential)

  • Adventure Time ( fun RPG video game potential )
  • Scooby-Doo -Matrix
  • Mad Max
  • Dunes -Rocksteady -NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat) -Avalanche -Monolith (+Nemesis technology) -TT Games ( Lego ) -Warner Montreal

There’s still a lot going on with Warner there’s also LOTR rights up for sale that Microsoft could buy back

There is a lot of potential for a valuation of 35 Billion let’s count 40 Billion it would be insane to own all these IPs and they already have a Smash Bros Like with Multiversus just add the IPs Activision / Blizzard, Bethesda, XBOX

It’d be 40+ billion and they’d also be taking on 40+ billion in debt.

To be fair there are plenty of things they could do.

For example allow you to purchase movies/TV shows outright. They could also allow you to effectively pre-order content and get early access to it (e.g. 24-48 hours).

If they introduced casual/mobile TV games they could do stuff like Candy King where you effectively have to pay to keep playing. As part of their new AD package they could include these type of games.

If they partnered with a game publisher they could do crossover games so you then get a copy of the movie/show or vice versa if you buy it.

I’m sure there’s plenty of other opportunities but they are the sort of things I’m thinking about.

EA Sports/Games that stay multiplatform Madden NHL UFC NCAA Football NCAA Basketball FC/Fifa Knockout Kings Golf NBA Jams Battlefield

Apex Legends/Skate/Knockout City : Live Service Game with On going seasons/ also benefits from being on the cloud.

Back catalog that currently fills Gamepass

Exclusives The Sims Sim City Titanfall Dragon Age DeadSpace Mass Effect Plants Vs Zombies Black Panther(maybe?) Need for Speed or Grid Peggle Bejeweled Command & Conquer Older IPs

You have devs from Codemasters work on Racing games or older EA, Activision games

Ubisoft, Take-Two are just as good but with those sports games that can be accessed just by an app on your along with The Sims, Battlefield & COD. Gamepass would be right along Disney+/ HBO Max as far as subscribers. Ea might be more of a protection more than the others.

We always talk about how studios coukd use the xbox mkney to invest in themselves. Maybe wb could use microskft money to invest as well. Buy the permenent rights to lotr or Harry potter.
