Well people are always talking about acquiring EA but I personally don’t see that. I do wonder if EA would be willing to sell some IPs, considering they are not using them anymore.
T2, Capcom are the best choices for Microsoft. Though after ABK, they are technically fine without other western publisher acquisitions. Capcom is for Japan though
I’m all for Embracer just because of the sheer amount of different IP they’d have access to. but someone said that they have 120 studios but most of them are staffed by like, 10 people. You still get some pretty talented studios.
but it won’t happen. There’s no way microsoft cares about going after them.
Anyone think Microsoft could buy off some studios from EA that EA no longer cares about? maybe try to buy BioWare, DICE, Ripple Effect instead of the entire company. but then again, isn’t there some cross development that EA internal studios have with DICE and stuff, then you run into issues.
Regarding DICE it remains to be seen, but EA might potentially try to close it or to sell. Though they might want to keep BF IP. Not sure. BF is also difficult to make into a transmedia IP (in comparison to Call of Duty which is already a movie in their campaigns). Bioware - it all depends on the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Currently Bioware is a shell of the past and if those two flop, then Bioware is as good as dead.
BioWare is a shell of the past that still has the prestige to hire talent. Mass Effect was mishandled, Dragon Age a little less so but never the less the management within BioWare is mishandling the direction of the studio. Let’s see how DA4 and Mass Effect 4 go, if both flop its definitely the end for BioWare.
yes, but BioWare has the prestige to bring in some of the best talent in the industry. They still have the chance to recover. As for the DICE situation, DICE Sweden has made buggy games for a long time that DICE LA (now ripple effect) always has to patch back up.
Studios can go through dark periods yet can still recover, a lot of the time the dark period is because of bad internal mismanagement.
I am not sure about, but I do curious of what’s gonna happen with Bioware if ME and DA flops
The problem is that the issues have existed for years. It is not even a Blizzard situation, where it was relatively recent even. Bioware has been on decline for years and years already.
no, then Microsoft would have to start up a new studio so that people can work on the games and there’s a chance that doesn’t work out. BioWare is still attracting new talent because of their brand and legacy of creating projects like Mass Effect 1-3 and Dragon Age.
Most of the missteps BioWare have had were internal, Anthem only had like 2-3 years of active development while most of the time was spent on pre-production. Mass Effect Andromeda was worked on by a new BioWare Montreal studio that ended up shutting down.
Personally I’d prefer they went for Humanoid Studios (Inflexion already sold to Tencent) and see what new IP the former devs can make.
Mass Effect is already on its 4th game, it’s soon going to need a reboot or hiatus. Dragon Age 4 is also on the way too.
Star Wars is no longer exclusive to EA but we may still get KOTOR 3.
Don’t rule out embracer just yet, I could see Xbox purchasing specific pieces of the company but probably not the entire thing, I think the interest is still there for say gearbox and square west they just can’t do anything about it just yet
Microsoft went after Gearbox but Randy did not want to leave the company. And we don’t know why Microsoft did not go after Square West. I highly suspect Microsoft had no interest in supporting Avengers over owning Tomb Raider IP (considering that they make Indiana Jones game).
I don’t think EA is looking to sell anything, they are looking to merge to gain more power and remain competitive in an era of industry consolidation. Them selling off studios is not even a consideration IMO.
