Right now the spotlight isnt on tech. People are worried about the economy, climate, education, gun violence, human rights. Tech acquisitions are way down on the list for politicians.
People just want to act like they know what they are talking about cos console wars. I will say I looked it up and “inorganic growth” does equal buying someone granted it can, it can also mean just opening new locations, but it ain’t illegal to acquire a Japanese company at all if your forign, they just have their own restrictions/approval proccess which is standard in most countries, Japan’s being giving prior notice to the ministy of finance and any other relivent ministries if you intent to invest into a ristricted business sector (like a prior notice report) which they need to approve. Hoeg covers it in this video (15:05)
Simply put, its console war ammo which is miss infomation which they want to spread to start arguments online and maybe deep down they believe it will change the fact they can, some might just genuinely be mistaken but the fact most just don’t respond when a source is given proving it is possible it is usually them just wanting to spread miss info.
I am not American so correct me if I am wrong but different parts of the goverment cover these parts so I don’t see why that matters…also the economy is linked to these acquisitions if I am not mistaken (hoeg mentioned it when going over the acquisition in the most recent video)
There was a big wave of enthusiasm around limiting big tech for several years. Those calls are almost non existent now. The energy and food/beverage industries are much more under the spotlight now due to current issues with these two highly consolidated industries.
Acquisitions during a recession in general are viewed more favorably as investors/shareholders are provided opportunities to make money at a time when losing money is more common.
After ABK, any small acquisition will fly under the radar
Oh do you mean mean the community and people cos if that is the case I agree, the big tech stuff has died off a lot over the last few years, its still there but its no where near as big. The FTC currect structor definitely still is in that group though, not sure about the rest of the goverment though
ehhh…define small
Yupp!
A lot of it. ABK is 80b. Anything than that will be akin Zynga & T2 acquisition
So they can easily go for others such as sega or ubisoft
If an opportunity presents itself, They will seize it. I don’t see them missing out on an EA or Ubisoft. We also know that they were in discussions with Take Two before ABK. They don’t have a money problem and don’t seem to want to stop there. They target intellectual property, so publishers are more interesting targets. Regarding small studios, some could be interesting, but it should not be filler. If you buy Ubisoft, you don’t need to have lots of small studios to grow your teams. So target the best, and those who have interesting intellectual property.
I don’t think they will go after either of this too, but the point is that after ABK, those acquisitions won’t even generate the headlines.
Were they?
Personally for you which company offers the best for xbox?
Ea has sports aswell battlefield and apex(which will make xbox king of the fps), engaging online games such as the sims and they could possibly bring simcity again, and single player games such as dead space or jedi fallen order, aswell all the ips they posses and barely use
Ubisoft has a ton of power to bring several games to gamepass each year aswell they have several ips that could comeback, most of their games are always on the top 10 of most selling
And with take two they dont have a ton of ips like the others but do you really need it having gta and red dead redemption? Also count 2k with their sports game, mafia and the new studio for bioshock aswell zynga that could bring more opportunities for xbox in mobile, seriously xbox will be a beast in mobiles with zynga and king
So which ones makes more sense in your opinion?
My position hasn’t changed despite all those battles in acquisition trenches. Out of all publishers, I would go after Take 2 and Capcom for various reasons. And even then Capcom > Take 2 probably (tough choice).
Between them, from IP point of view - Capcom is no-brainer as they have a big set of alive IPs and also able to produce the games based on those IPs relatively regularly. They even kinda have IP with big engagement value (Monster Hunter) and potentially SF6.
But Take 2 owns GTA - enormous IP with huge huge engagement value. Everything else though…But GTA is huge.
So in the end I would favor Capcom there.
I know, take 2 doest have a ton of ips like the others, but they have gta which is huge
I just wonder, if gta 6 fails, will thats going to ruin the franchise?
From a combination of quality, consistency, talent, variety, and big IP, there’s no one close to Capcom right now.
GTA6 won’t fail. It is impossible. As long as it is not completely broken as CP2077 it won’t fail. And even CP2077 sold 18m. GTA5 is over 100m I think or something.
Not to mention they are the only one japanese publisher that does not have ties with other industries.
But ironically that would not solve JRPG problem
I don’t think there are any bad acquisitions. Every publisher has good things to bring to Xbox. With EA and Take Two you had the best selling games and you reach a lot of people. With Ubisoft or SEGA (or even Capcom) you have productivity and diversity, with a huge catalog of games for your GP. With Warner Discovery you target transmedia, but you still boost Xbox with quality studios and the incredible DC Comics intellectual property.
If it’s just a personal choice as player, I choose Ubisoft and Warner Discovery which I think would offer excellent synergy. Or Ubisoft + a Japanese publisher (Capcom or SEGA), if Microsoft is not interested in transmedia. From my point of view, Ubisoft is really the opportunity they have to take because they are cheap and would bring a lot to GP.
Sure, but after the disaster of the trilogy, I really doubt about the success of the game in long term, sure is going to sell a ton in its launch, but it will continue like that just like gta 5? Also will rockstar gonna stop giving support to gta 5 like they did to red dead redemption?
I always thought Bleeding Edge would have been much better with Xbox characters and maps from Xbox worlds. That and less of a focus on Team play.
I agreed, their could be a good synergy between ubisoft and warner, aswell I believe that wb studios could now focus even more on their ips
And with ubisoft you can make even more games of those ips, or just let a external developer make them(just like that multiversus game)
