I can see NRS with Mortal Kombat IP (for gaming side). Would be nice to get DC IPs for Injustice at least.
They can always split gaming and movie part of the said IP. It is all about price. I believe NRS has a lot to say regarding MK IP considering they have been having it since the immemorial.
sure their is always a price but it likely won’t be cheap, escecially considering going off this report WB discovery wants to license out these IPs but saying their is always a price can be applied to anything so by this logic why don’t Microsoft try to buy all WB discovery with all or most of the major stuff’s game rights. IDK I don’t see it at all personally
microsoft will have more than 30 studio’s when activision is acquired, safe to say they definitely have talent and if Microsofts studio’s are under staffed maybe they should hire more people and if you are going to argue the number of studio…literally any acquisition of a publisher would give Microsoft studio’s (which Microsoft will have over 30 of once again once activision is though)
do you think non of microsoft’s soon to be over 30 studio’s would be up to make a hero game…like not 1 because I find that unlikely. Hell for all we know Rocksteady or WB Montreal may want to work on something else but obviously they are going to be told to work on hero games
I’m not arguing about the number of studios they have, I’m stating that staff is the thing they need! All of their studios are understaffed right now as it’s near impossible to find the right people to fill the roles, they have loads of vacancies right now.
Yes they are getting more studios with pre-established IP.
Activision will still continue working on Activision IP and Blizzard will continue working on Blizzard IP (atleast for now).
With the WB studios they will have the manpower to start working on the games right away (and their experience and talent working on these properties). Even if they gave the IP to a brand new studio you can’t take all that experience and knowledge of those WB studios working on these IP’s and transfer it immediately.
I just remembered that Wonder Woman has no announced platforms at all yet. So if any of the interested parties gets Monolith they can lock it down if they want to. Same situation as Starfield probably.
With MS saying they will allow Activision Blizzard games to be multiplatform and if MS misses out on getting WB Games, because of AB I’ll be truly disappointed.
I mean just imagine if the WBG games could have been exclusive to Xbox, but instead we get Call of Duty on Game Pass, talk about in my personal opinion a major letdown.
I understand from a business point of view getting Call of Duty on Game Pass is huge, but I’d gladly have taken exclusive games over multiplatform games.
That being said, seeing as the AB games like Call of Duty will be multiplatform, why can’t MS buy all of WBG and makes those games exclusive, because they gave up exclusivity with Call of Duty?
maybe they should hire people, like what would buying studio’s do for this unless they buy them for the sole intention to merge them for studio x but I don’t think they are all under staffed, 343 for example had 750 employees in 2020…considering how much content we get for halo infinite and the road map I think they are over staffed lol. Management needs to fixed with some of these studios instead of just throwing 100 more employees into them
just because they have pre established IPs doesn’t mean they can’t work on other stuff, look at obsidian as an example of that. They are working on 2 new IPs (grounded and Avowed), are making a sequel to The Outer Worlds and are rumoured to be making the next fallout. Even if we do assume that activision blizzard studio’s are off the table for 3 years…thats only 3 years lol
so you would buy them pretty much solely for the talent like I said, Microsoft can form studio’s if they just want more of them to work on other games and the only benifit to getting them would be said talent which most publishers studio’s have along side IP so its just lead to us running in a circle (also hot take here but the batman games I have played were mid granted I haven’t played all of them)
Of all the WBD Studios, i have to say that the likely candidates for any acquisition in part of Microsoft`s part would honestly be Monolith production and Netherealm(If what was said about the ties with Ed Boon and Matt Booty being true that is a great possibility).
However i feel like Microsoft will try their hardest with Monolith Productions, considering that almost all their games as of late have been showcased in xbox showcases over the years(With some even being made available in Game pass) in addition to me remembering that Phil also has interacted with the people there and seem to be close with one another while also possessing a unique gimmick with the Nemesis system. At least that`s if my memory serves me straight. Feel free to correct me if am mistaken in anything that i have currently said.
I think they would priorities neather realm personally but I 100% agree those would be the 2 most likely targets, its also worth noting both have their own IP which microsoft could just throw into game pass (midway games including mortal kombat, fear and Condemned: Criminal Origins)
TT for Lego games and maybe something else in the future, but when it comes to E games, Xbox would be set with that for sure. NR with Mortal Kombat and Injustice. Monolith with Wonder Woman and if that’s a succes they could perhaps make a sequel or take on another DC character. And so on.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of great potential with the other non CoD studios at ActiBlizz but right now it’s all still one big CoD factory. But I have faith Phil make sure this changes once he is able to.
I don’t think they have ‘vacancies’ for the fun of it.
The talent with the licensing/IP
Most new studios fail, we have already heard the rumblings around The Initiative.
Also paying for licenses then forcing your existing studios (with their own IP and visions) to work on it it’s not a great look.
The talent at WB are there because they enjoy working on those games/licenses, if they didn’t they would go elsewhere.
Therefore yes I would want them to acquire the studio in addition to the license/IP.
Just like any profession you can’t put value on experience and knowledge.
There was once a rich businessman
with a broken beloved car. Despite several attempts, he was unable to fix the engine of that car.
He called several engineers but no one was able to fix it. Finally there was an old mechanic who visited him. That old guy inspected the engine and asked for a hammer. On front side of the engine, he tapped few times with his hammer and brrroomm…brroom…It started Working! Next day, the old mechanic sent his invoice for $1000.
The businessman was shocked.
He said, “ This was merely a $1 job. You just tapped the engine with your hammer. What’s there for $1000 that you are asking?”
The old mechanic said “ Let me give you a detailed invoice.”
The Invoice read:
Tapping the engine with hammer: $1
Knowing where to hit the hammer: $999
That was his experience which made him hit the right spot.
I am not trying to be rude when I say this but most publishers don’t care about the studio’s creative vision, Microsoft is in the minority here probably because of how big they are, they can afford to allow their studio’s to be more self sustaining in a way, also how do you know the people at places like rocksteady enjoy making them, WB literally owns their studio so they just do what they are told to do because if they just refuse to they will be fired. I don’t get why people some kind of different standard on game development, its a job, do you think most people who just quit their job because they don’t like the work. In terms of the idea of them forming their own studio…“Most new studios fail”
Game devs are already in such high demand (as I have already mentioned), there is vacancies everywhere! They don’t need to start a new studio?
There is of course going to be some people who just see it as a job, but most of the talent there aren’t simply just going to stay and do something they dislike. I suspect many of the devs there are also big DC fans.
I also don’t mean to be rude but I just asked my 11YO, “if you were working a job and they forced you to make something you didn’t want to make what would you do”… her immediate answer was “quit”. I’m not sure why it’s that difficult to perceive when their jobs are in such high demand too.
Let’s phrase it another way, would you want a team with the experience, knowledge and passion for the IP working on it, or a brand new team with no background knowledge, overworked and with potentially no passion for the IP working on it? Which do you feel would yield the best best results?
Yet strangly comanies which are seen to have toxic workplaces like EA, Activision, Take Two or Ubisoft have a lot of staff and do you have any evidence to back the idea they are DC fans because if not I could easily use the same stuff with Activision staff and CoD and big bad Microsoft is about to force them to work on something else.
Also are you really asking an 11YO, if I was 11 I would say quit but I knew up and realised how important stuff like money is and that with more money I can do more stuff I actually enjoy rather than job searching in hopes of finding a job I will like, like now that I have grown up enjoying a job feels like a bonus. This is literally just my opinion here but I would rather something well paying than something I would enjoy
