Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

Video game industry jobs are both in pretty high demand and have pretty high turnover. If you’re in an area with a large number of studios, chances are you could easily go somewhere to work on a project that you’re interested in.

Obviously if you aren’t in one of those areas, moving is a deterrent.

depends on multiple factors like cost to buy said studio, current goals within the industry, wages ect. If condictions were identical obviously I would prefer the 1st group but they aren’t and I personally wouldn’t hire people who are not qualified (non of the things you listed here were even the issues with The Initiative going off what we have heard though, its management…the same issue 343 seems to be having)

I said seen and EA even if they have massively change…their work place definitely is proceveed like shit

Just think about MS bringing back No One Lives Forever if they got Monolith, that would be awesome.

Then think about Travelers Tales and what they could do with Blinx, it could easily becomes MS’ version of a game like Ratchet and Clank.

Then you have NetherRealm who can bring out Killer Instinct vs Mortal Kombat.

You also have Avalanche who is showing they can make RPGs, with their Hogwarts game and made Disney Infinity in the past. So just imagine them making an open world game that utilizes MS properties. Getting to play as Doom Guy in a the Halo universe, taking out the Covenant or have Master Chief fly in a plane, in the Crimson Skies universe. I’m not saying to bring back the toys to life concept, but just the gameplay ideas and have it be with MS characters instead.

You also have Rocksteady who has shown they know how to make great action/adventure, third person, cinematic games with Batman and maybe they want to work on Shadowrun, but instead of Batman you play as a Minotaur, Human, Elf, you name it and take on corruption in that universe.

You also have studios like WB Montreal which has helped with the other WB studios and have brought out games themselves, so they too could work on bringing back games like Jet Force Gemini or Kameo, seeing as Rare wants to work on new stuff instead.

So I have to say this and that is MS can’t miss out on buying the whole WB Interactive studios.

Unfortunately I think it’s unlikely that they buy the whole thing. As long as they stay third party it’d be fine if someone else buys, a Sony acquisition wouldn’t be ideal.

Yeah thats all that matter, a SONY acquisition would mean no more games for pc, xbox and nintendo. Not to mention pay more (faaar more) to play games

There are always going to be reasons for staying e.g. local workplace, convenience, pay, benefits etc etc.

However in a creative role like a dev you aren’t going to work on something which you dislike, at the most it’s not exactly going to get the creative juices flowing is it? I suspect the devs there mostly all enjoy what they are working on too.

Even in my own profession I have moved/left when I have been made to work on ‘things’ that I don’t enjoy as it doesn’t motivate me to work there. One of my relatives work at Xbox and yes pay was a factor but they haven’t been there as long as they have for ‘just pay’.

Anyway it’s clear we aren’t going to agree on how important workforce, skills, knowledge and experience are so let’s agree to disagree :slightly_smiling_face:.

Michael Pachter has always been wrong, so I’m going to say it won’t happen and hopefully MS gets them instead.

Sony doesn’t have money to do that. Especially with all those other players involved.

You mean a bidding war? I don’t know, I don’t think all those studios are gonna cause a bidding war so I could see them get an individual studio at least.

Noone will control Warner’s IPs even if they acquure the studios so accoding to his own logic, it doesn make sense for anyone to buy them.

And is just a “suggestion” not one of his “predictions”

There will be a bidding war over studios. Maybe not for all of them, but the main ones are gonna be fight over. And basically it boils down if any other player will decide that they don’t need a studio. In a real bidding war, Sony has no chance of winning.

And maybe it doesn’t pose as a priority relative to the price to them as well, most of those WB studios are similar in capabilities and genre proficiency to Sony’s (even better) own studios. They’re not gonna overpay for something they have covered already. I definitely see they’d want Netherrealm though but the bidding on them would be a bloodbath probably lol

NRS bidding war will essentially boil down to Tencent and Microsoft. Microsoft will throw even 1b if necessary but won’t let NRS go. I just can’t see that happening. After Double Helix and Iron Galaxy situation they will bring a fighting game studio in house. Whatever it takes.

I think the MK IP on its own is worth more than 1B honestly

Maybe.

I do wonder who owns other Midway IPs? WB?

Matt Booty would know :philwins:

Pretty sure the majority of those “WB” studios are support studios.

It seems that WB got the majority but THQ purchased the other assets (San Diego) who are now owned by Embracer.

They could come up with $3-4b without a lot of trouble. And they could overpay for single studios.

This could very much be in their financial ballpark.

WBD is going to sell the studios in piecemeal if they do decide to sell and scrounge every last possible dollar they can from it.
