Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

i’m starting to think MS should acquire the entire WB Discovery.

These kinds of hold are meant to last like weeks or maybe very few months, Discovery would definetely want to sell the highest bidder asap judging that they want to get the most money they can. The only way I can see MS getting a 100% hold and buy is if they offer a very large sum that no one else would be able to.

If thats the case I doubt Microsoft will be buying them lol, I doubt think microsoft wants to pay a massive ass preimum for them when they would get very few IPs out of it. I could see some studios but I never felt like WB games compared to others was a great buy for that reason

I would say if MS is part of the bidding war, then it means they are sure they can buy a studio while ABK is pending.

I mean, yeah I don’t see much risk in buying a few studio’s personally. Personally I think Microsoft should grab Neather realm and monolith since they have their own IPs, I think someone like rocksteady or tt games could also be a good grab but I am not sure MS is invested in buying talent as much as IP at this point

Microsoft would be willing to pay for NRS and Mortal Kombat IP 100%.

so they would pay a massive premium just to hold back the purchase until activision goes though to buy WB games for a single IP…I doubt it (thats what I was refering too)

Just saw on Twitter that WB has a ton of studios, damn. Here I thought WB Montreal was the only studio called WB, but there are multiple ones.

Also seeing several people signaling Phil, making comments like “add to cart” please Phil. It’s all in good fun, and maybe if ABK hadn’t been a thing they could and would have nabbed all of WB, but that’s definitely not gonna happen. I do hope to see at least two studios end up there though.

It depends, unless Xbox start buying movie studios they ideally need to have some studios doing pop culture (Indiana Jones seems to be an exception, as it was started before the acquisition).

The WB studios are ideal for that even if Xbox do have to pay for additional licensing.

It’s clear how popular Spider-Man and Wolverine is, especially as they also pull in the casuals. Avalanches Hogwarts will likely be the same.

I don’t think they are gonna hold back a purchase. ABK deal is big but not because they buy a lot of studios at once. Studios are not even the concern. Thus studio acquisitions won’t matter. How many studios Embracer or Tencent bought last year? More than 20+ at least?

WB discovery plans to license out the IPs so Microsoft could just pay to get the licenses, they don’t need to buy WB games for that (assuming Imran is correct obviously)

I think we had a list there and it was around 10 or something. Several with WB “some name” and multiple titled ones.

Microsoft did not go after whole WB in the past (even before BGS or ABK), so it is more complex than that.

thats what I was refering too lol, I doubt Microsoft will miss out on neatherrealm personally but I think tencent, netease, sony and EA are also strong canidates when it comes to them

It still requires bidding involved. And considering the number of WB execs in XGS, Matt Booty being a former Midway exec and his ties with Ed Boon, I don’t see Microsoft letting anybody grabbing NRS. In the past, maybe nobody was interested to get it all, but if somebody did plan to buy them I would bet that Microsoft would be involved in the bidding war.

It is like Bethesda acquisition - considering relationship between Phil and Todd, I don’t believe Microsoft would let Bethesda go somewhere else.

No that many actually, only 6-7 are the ones that matter:

  1. NethetRealm-Mortal kombat, injustice

  2. Monolith- working on wonder woman.

  3. Rocksteady- arkham saga, suicide squad.

  4. WBG montreal- Batman: AO, Gotham knights.

  5. Avalanche- first game with hogwarts legacy.

  6. TT games - lego and has like 4 support studios.

  7. WBG Boston - lots of failure mobile games.

If you dont count WBG boston as a “main studios” then its only those 6 that matter. The other 3-4 are just support studios (small to mid teams and I think these well be shut down).

From those 6 listed above I imagine the one everyone will be fighthing for is NetherRealm and next Rocksteady. I would like MS to grab those 2.

T2 will go for TT me thinks and now that only leave us with the rest but I dont know if thet will wait for those games to release or are that desperate for money.

I still think of NRS and potentially Rocksteady. Avalanche might potentially go to Sony.

I think Sony will go after studio’s who have done hero games…also I will be honest I don’t see why Microsoft would go after rocksteady, no hate toward them but they don’t have any IP and to get batman microsoft would need to do a licensing agreement with WB discovery which they could do without rocksteady, I honestly could see Sony trying for rocksteady and WBG montreal

1st WB game, they were actually part of disney old gaming division

There was some whispers about Microsoft shopping around Batman IP. Would not be surprised if they would pay for Batman IP or something. Anyway we don’t know much yet.

Yep, better wait for official confirmation.

What we all can agree on is that NR wil be the main dish in this deal lol (again, if true)

do you really think WB discovery would sell said IP, I have a hard time believe they would even sell the game rights to someone as iconic as batman tbh

I think monolith too but thats just me
