Ubisoft is too big and with the size their issues are even worse. And not to mention due to being a european company it is even more difficult to solve those issues than ATVI (as in Europe you will have to deal with unions etc.)
Does whoever gets them, if they get them, have to “fix” them though? I understand ms would try to but someone not invested in gaming could just leave them be and rake in the profit. Not familiar with how these things work but a company making half of it’s net worth in profit each year seems too good.
The media backlash would be enormous and only companies like NetEase or Tencent would buy them and would not care. If Microsoft were to try to acquire Ubisoft, a lot of eyes would immediately look into how Microsoft is gonna fix that. We see it with ATVI right now.
Sony’s situation would be better probably - as all Sony’s issues are thrown under the rug all the time including their own SIE problems that are the same as ATVI / Blizzard but nobody bat’s an eye. Like how much people were talking about Blizzard, but nobody cares about SIE. How much people were talking about Undead Labs, but nobody cared about Insomniac and so on.
Damn, I looked at market cap of Square Enix and Ubisoft and they are tanking…Now both Ubisoft and Square Enix can potentially reach 4.5b within 2 months each. Crazy. Even Sony will be able to afford them.
And Obsidian. The prices I’ve heard thrown around for what they got acquired for have been pretty cheap and now they seem to be setting themselves up as a production powerhouse with several major and exciting projects on the way.
It makes it even more amazing if you remember that Phil wanted to acquire Mojang even earlier. He had some incredible foresight.
Unfortunately, I don’t think there will be any more Microsoft gaming acquisitions until the Activison Blizzard deal goes through.
I really wish there was a way to know what Microsoft were acquiring next
Phil. If you’re reading this. You can totally DM me and let me know who’s next to be acquired. I won’t tell anyone if you don’t want me to
there stock has been tanking but they own a lot of huge IPs and actually make quite of bit of money. I think they are probably the next major gaming acquisition in terms of publishers even if Microsoft isn’t the one to make a move but IF microsoft does buy them, they basically own the WRPG genre
Honestly hard to say but I realistically after activision price isn’t an argument anymore so it could be anyone. If I could spit ball I could see Microsoft picking up EA or T2 just to take them off the board for someone else to pick up (EA stock has also fallen a bit so it could be a good time to buy), Ubisoft stock is going to shit so great time to pick up them, Square stock has been falling but it seems to go up and down a bit in the last year so IDK and both Capcom and SEGA would be good buys but their stocks seem to be doing fine or good so I am not sure (SEGA would of been best acquired 2020 or 2021 since their stock got hurt then while 2022 they seem to be quickly recovering)
Personally agree with the likes of Sega(9 studios), IO Interactive, Asobo, Certain Affinity, Double Eleven and Avalache Studios. The rest i still am iffy about, especially with the likes of Bioware, Crytek, and Square Enix West.
I would end up picking the following three studios to replace these three in particular:
Revolutions Developments: The reason i think it would be viable is simply because their ideas are interesting and a plethora of their games have come to game pass.
Platinum Games: Mostly because i can genuinely see a lot of improvements if the end up being acquired by Xbox, especially if they end up being part of Zenimax alongside Tango.
Pearl Abyss: I highly believe that this one in particular has big potential of being acquired by Xbox, especially considering their good relationship, and would end up adding an MMORPG giant into their already existing ip alongside ESO and WOW.
An the last one to round up to 50 would be the following one;
A44: An New Zealand game studio with impressive talent, and their games have been shown on gamepass and helped them out considerably.
If i were to say another potential candidate i would highly think Stoic Studios would be the contender to be acquired.
they will spend 70b with ATVI. after that, i’m not expecting anything big. now is the time to deliver results/content.
By the end of the year, Ubisoft has the potential to reach 3.5-4b market cap. A lot of vultures are flying around probably.
After ATVI anything else is a pocket change. I mean nobody at Microsoft would care about another 7-8b thrown at another acquisition. Much less anything below 5b.
Yeah. After dropping nearly 70 Billion US Dollars on Activision Blizzard, anyone could be acquired by them now.
Well… Except Tencent
Out of curiosity, if they were to reach a deal with say, 2 separate developers and one publisher-developer to acquire them, are Microsoft able to hold off on signing it (or whatever they do to make it official) so that they can announce all three at once? I hope this makes sense. Apologies if it doesn’t.
I’d assume they won’t sit on a deal because you risk it falling apart.
Expect Sega, Camcom, Square Enix, Take Two Interactive, EA, Bandai Namco, Focus Home [Interactive], IO Interactive, Avalanche Studios/Games (whatever you call the bundle of studios ) to all be acquired at once next
Jk
Microsoft should grab
- Certain Afinity
- Double Eleven
- Asobo
- IO Interactive
- Avalanche
- Crytek
- Platinum
- Square Enix
- Ubisoft
I want to see the world burn While some of these won’t happen (and some of the choices I don’t like), imagine a timeline where it happened.
I stick with my prediction of Amazon but if they having been bought by then I would be shocked if Microsoft doesn’t talk to them
I doubt they would care but I think they could but it would be a risk as it would leave the window open for someone to try and bid themselves but if they are privately owned Microsoft can hold off an announcing it
I disagree, I think this tells us those comments about being all in were serious and I think microsoft will continue buying what they want before someone else does, I wouldn’t be shocked at all if we see another acquisition by them announced in 2023 or 2024
Good point. But they have managed to do it before. Right?
Like… Remember when they announced the 5 new xbox studios? (4 acquisitions (Undead Labs, Playground Games, Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games) and 1 studio creation (The Initiative)).
They announced them at basically the same time. So it definitely seems possible.
It is Amazon’s best chance to enter big gaming for their Luna. Just Ubisoft+ intergation into Luna would make it competitive. And Ubisoft has its own launcher too.
They did it, but they did not do that while big acquisition was in the process. I would also not be surprised if Avalance and IO are waiting for other games to deliver to increase their price.
If they are privately owned like they were Microsoft can announce the acquisition wherever, publicly traded companies need to be announced a certain time within the acquisition though (I believe it is like 10 days but I am not certain) but this is why Microsoft managed to announce the Zenimax acquisition at such a good time (a day before pre orders) because they were privately owned
What studios that have been mentioned here are private ones? Is IO Interactive private?
