No worries, though.

for those intrested, I updated the graph for 2021 gaming revenue. I also spent a while looking though both SEGA, Capcom and Square Enix’s financial statement’s to update them to just include the gaming revenue so this should be accurate
Surprise that Embracer Group acquired over 50 studios and still low
Well, they get a lot of small studios. But if any of those studios produce Roblox or Minecraft or Fortnite…
Fun fact: Yen has been on a 8-10% devaluation against dollar.
most of their content is low B to high C tier stuff, they buy a lot but outside of gear box they don’t really own anything big. Their model seems to be any money they make, put it right into more acquisition but I am calling it now, in a few years they will be worth a fuck ton
They let their acquired studios stay independent with funding in place from them which i think is the reason so many want to join.I agree in a few years i think they’re going to be a different beast.
Finished watching Xbox Two and I have to say that anyone who compares the ActiBlizz deal to Nvidia/ARM likely needs to get their head examined…Nvidia/Arm would of given them control of 90% of the chip market…
Meanwhile MS can buy ActiBlizz, EA and Sega and still not even have 25% of the gaming market
Also the amount of dummies on Twitter that think political grifters like Elizabeth Warren have any power is equally hilarious …that’s what grifters do, they try to bring up legislation that they know will never pass but do it so they can get their out there on the media.
yeah lol, like to be classed as a monopoly you need about 70% control of the market. Now anti competitve or whatever its classed as is different but people calling it a monopoly are genuinely insane. For Microsoft to be classed a monopoly they would need a massive chunk of the mobile gaming market (like at minimum 22% and they would need to completely swollow both the console and PC gaming market meaning they would need to buy valve to even come close to swollowing the PC gaming market and I doubt gabb wants to sell)
I think the ABK deal should go through but the number of people that live to carry water for trillion dollar corporations seems awfully unhealthy for our society.
I don’t think Warren’s tact is ideal here, and I don’t agree with her on capping mergers/acquisitions at $5 billion (that’s insane), but careful scrutiny over multi-billion dollar deals is always warranted, in my opinion.
I couldn’t agree more. The reason that I think people should be supportive of this particular acquisition by a trillion-dollar company is because of the net-positive impact on employees, given the well-documented efforts MS has made to quell any similar types of events that Activision is currently going through.
That said, as I’ve said many times before, I’m a fan of most of Warren’s stances and legislative efforts, and the principle of what she’s doing with the M&A bills is on the right track, but in this instance she’s using some ill-researched and bad-faith arguments to levy that legislative agenda at Microsoft when she should be levying them at Facebook or Amazon, especially if she cares about the employees as she implies.
It really annoys me when people bring it up, they only do it because it was the latest big deal to get denied but like you said it’s such a different kind of deal it’s not even remotely the same thing. Like to even just mention it as if it has any impact or even a small of revelence. Comparing a thing that powers rockets, phones, computers, cars and anything with a chip pretty much to a company that makes vidya games for entertainment is so dumb it hurts.
Even if an acquisition were under consideration at the moment (and I’ve no doubt there is), would anything be announced before ABK is completed? If they were private companies so didn’t have shareholders or need to make announcements could it even be signed and done but just not announced until a later date?
I would think MS don’t want anything influencing regulators on the ABK deal so not really expecting to hear about anyone else for the next year
The entirety of Microsoft has done many acquisitions regardless of others. They had nuance in process while Activision was announced. However, they probably wont do another gaming publishers any time soon. I can see smaller gaming companies as possibilities since they probably wont affect much.
I am pretty sure that since ATVI deal announcement they have acquired somebody. Now that I look into it
Amazing how 8 years later, Mojang seems to be the biggest steal in video game acquisitions
Speaking of publishers, I would expect MS to make a play for Paradox Interactive, their games like Crusader Kings are huge on PC and it’s been stated that MS wants to be a major player in the RTS/Strategy space
A bit late buttt…
-Sega: They bring in roughly 9 studios. 2 Internal Dev teams, One for Sonic, One for JRPGs. We also get some good RTS pickups like Creative Assembly and Relic Entertainment which both have history with XGS. Then we have a couple small studios which make smaller games. They are Amplitude Studios, Hardlight, and Two point Studios. Then we get Sports Interactive who give us a yearly Football Manager Gamepass release. Finally for the cream of the Crop. Atlus. Pretty self explanatory.
-IO Interactive: A great studio which specialises in 3rd person Action Adventure, but can also branch out. They also bring great tech like the award-winning Glacier engine that Powers the Hitman Trilogy. They have locations in Scandinavia and in Barcelona. XGSP is also working with IOI on ‘Project Dragon’.
-Certain Affinity: A pretty obvious selection, bringing some support to fellow XGS while developing their own projects (Project Suerte). They share most of their history with Xbox.
-Avalanche Studios Group: Now Avalanche will need to be acquired off of Nordisk Films. But it is well worth it. They bring in 2 Studios, Expansive Worlds (Hunter Series), Systemic Reaction (Second Extinction). But those 2 studios are not the reason for this acquisition, Avalanche studios is. They are currently working on Contraband and also maintain and own the Apex engine. They would be a big name addition to XGS.
-Double Eleven: These guys have been working on Fallout 76 for a bit now, They would slot right into Zenimax Media instead of XGS.
-Crytek: This is more of a wild-shot but they would be seriously good to get a hold of. Ryse 2, Crysis 4, Cry Engine. Getting them off live service games and putting them on singleplayer games would be a necessary move. Quite the few possibilities.
-Crystal Dynamics/Square Enix West: This may be cheating so I will just consider CD. CD are co-devs on PD so this is another obvious one. But imagine Square Enix West. Eidos, Deus Ex, Tomb raider, Reuniting Avalanche with Just cause.
-Asobo/Plague Tale IP: A good combo is Asobo aswell as its main ip, Plague Tale from Focus Home. They currently maintain Flight sim and house their own engine. They also have a long history with Xbox.
-Bioware/CDPR: Already being the Rpg kings, why not add to the count? It will be hard to acquire Bioware from EA but if possible, two big Ips and some talented devs just joined the family. CDPR is a much bigger studio and all of their IP is in a weird Licensing limbo so I would prefer Bioware. Any of the two would be insane though.
That brings the count to around 49 Studios, spanning 5 Continents. A whole new library of IP, Tools and Engines. Gamestack will dramatically improve, so will gamepass and so forth. 4 different Publishers. XGS, Zenimax, ABK, Sega. 22 Studios inside XGS. Maybe two much for Matt Booty to manage. In that case, bring someone else in to Co-Manage 22 studios. All these acquisitions will not cost too much. I would estimate around $15-16 Billion in total for all these Studios and Publisher. Great Value.
I salivate at the thought of BioWare under new management. They should have never fallen so hard.
Ideally for all gamers is if From Software stays as they are, but if anyone “has” to get them I’d want it to be MS. It would solve their problem with not having a big Japanese studio, Tango is great but it’s not FS levels of popularity, not even close. Could maybe even get Xbox to be bigger in Japan too? I can’t imagine Phil not having at least considered it, or considering it.
It’s not only about big pubs for them, look at Obsidian, NT, InXile etc. And man is it a studio they can depend on, that is for sure. And there’s no doubt how well Souls games sell/would get people to subscribe to GP.
If this is accurate, you guys say that ubisoft would cost about 8b, says here it makes 2.6 per year, is there any chance microsoft and maybe others aren’t actively trying to acquire them? I mean that looks like it makes too much sense even just on a business front.
