Check if they are being traded on the stockmarket, if they aren’t then you have your answer, they are privately owned. I believe IoI is a private company but can’t check right now
I know people are sour on their recent output but Platinum is a perfect example of a studio they should be going for
-
They are clearly held back by budget, just like Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Double Fine etc, MS can give them the funding to make whatever they make and not be held back
-
Kind of related to point 1 but no more stretching themselves thin and taking on a bunch of projects at the time to keep the lights on
-
Gives them not only a Japanese studio but potentially opens the door to more if you have two very respected creators like Mikami and Kamiya happy to work for xbox
-
Not that it would be an issue for them but they’d almost certainly be very cheap
This wouldn’t just be a case of “evil MS buying up games to take them away from others” but a studio that clearly could do with the help
They should leverage Mikami more as he has so many ties with other developers.
As cool as Ubisoft is I’d rather see Microsoft fix Activision/Blizzard and improve their working conditions first before they go after a publisher like Ubisoft or another large publisher in general. Since with Ubisoft Microsoft will be adding over 22,224 employees.
I want them to fix activision but I don’t see what is stopping them from doing both…hell I am not even seeing how doing both would be tough since only people at the top (microsoft’s CEO, Phil since its gaming related, Microsoft’s board and a few others maybe) would be involved while others could help fix activision
Microsoft still hasn’t acquired Activision/Blizzard yet so it’s still to early to say that the situation will improve or that it won’t be tough since it’s not just having good leadership or management it’s about fixing the entire culture which doesn’t happen overnight.
Eventually if the situation with Activision/Blizzard significantly improves I would agree with you that Microsoft could acquire Ubisoft but I don’t think Microsoft acquiring Ubisoft is a wise move until after Activision/Blizzard is in a good spot. Since even though I believe that Microsoft will fix Activision/Blizzard there is no guarantee.
Changing and fixing the leadership as well as fixing human resources would fix most of the issues and would natrually lead to culture fixing itself but I will be honest, just sitting back until all or most of the issues at activision are delt with feels dumb since normally M&A takes months to years to complete so Microsoft wouldn’t be expanding an area they have shown they want to expand in potentially for years, on top of that we don’t know what Microsoft’s next buy is, I still think Ubisoft screams Amazon but thats just me, it could be a company with already good culture
While I agree it’s easier said than done. It’s hard to tell what will happen after the acquisition is complete and whether or not the conditions will improve that’s why I think Microsoft should wait until Activision/Blizzard is in a good spot before going after another publisher such as Ubisoft.
It doesn’t mean Microsoft can’t expand I’m sure they can go after studios such as Certain Affinity, Crystal Dynamics, IO Interactive, Avalanche, etc. I’m just saying going after big publishers with thousands of employees I think Microsoft should wait before acquiring them.
I’m not great with this sort of stuff so I’m not really sure what’s the way to check.
sorry ![]()
I will say this, when Microsoft does acquire activision and in a year at most conditions haven’t drastically improved Microsoft risks a lot, to name a few
- add credibility to judging it based on the employees benifit which could mess with the world of business as a whole
- their position as the “good guys of gaming” which they have basically been forced to build up after the xbox one if they didn’t want to sink in the gaming space
- the public reception to any other publisher or hell possibly studio acquisitions in the future
Them not fixing the issues is a liability Microsoft won’t risk most likely
its private
Crazy how Ubisoft market cap is tanking
It literally can reach a point where almost everybody could afford it within a couple of month. I went from 4.9 to 4.5 within a week.
Square Enix lost 700m within a month and went from 5.5b to 4.8b.
I do think the situation will improve and Activision/Blizzard will be restored to being a great company under Microsoft’s leadership but it’s not going to happen overnight. That’s why I’m saying Microsoft should wait a few months to a year before going after a publisher such as Ubisoft or someone else.
We should specify this is euro’s, they are at $4.94 Billion market cap
IDK, I am more looking at this though a business lense and it just feels like time were you are letting others move in or if no one has with someone like Ubisoft if we assume Microsoft does want them it is giving their stock a chance to potentially recover and either remove that oppitunity for an acquistion or make it much more expensive
Oh, right. Square was in USD, Ubisoft in Euro
Square is at about $4.89 Billion right now so probably a pick up for a similar amount to zenimax. Honestly if Microsoft is really 100% confident in activision their is the possibility microsoft makes a move before activision has closed granted I doubt they will
At this point Sony is able to afford either of them.
I mean, Sony could always of afforded them but the question was would they be willing to pay that much for them, EA stock also appears to be down granted not tanking like Ubisoft or Square
Mate this means nothing to me. Lol. Sorry if I’m just stupid ![]()
no problem
