At the very least I’d think MS would change the name of WB Game Studios to Miday.
Then MS should look into reviving old Miday games or at least add them to Game Pass. I definitely think Psi Ops would be great if it came back. I can even see a new Rampage being fun. So hopefully if MS does get all of WB Games, they revive Miday and while their at it No One Lives Forever too.
They also don’t make “kids games.” Just because something is rated E doesn’t mean it’s for little kids. It just means it doesn’t feature violence or subjects that would get it a T or M rating.
Cities Skylines is rated E it’s in no way suitable for young kids, way too mechanically complex. I wouldn’t give a young kid Ori either, I can’t see how they would enjoy the story or gameplay.
And yes the Moon HR situation should (and likely did) immediately disqualify them from consideration.
IDK, I think they should get more E rated content but I don’t think it should be their sole focus. I think TT games is a good pick up but neatherrealm and Monolith Productions should take priority since they have their IPs (if you are talking E rated content I think Microsoft would be smart to try and also buy the scribblenauts IP from WB), Playful and Playtonic would be good pick ups, Microsoft and moon studios have cut ties and left on bad terms apparently.
If we are talking studio’s that make E rated content & I could pick up 6 studio’s I would get (in no order)
TT games
Playful
Playtonic
WayForward
Yacht Club Games
Supergiant Games
there are other good options to try and acquire though like Inti Creates (I originally included but stuff like bloodstain is rated teen so sadly no) or Studio MDHR…maybe team cherry too but hollow knight could be seen as a bit too dark
IDK, treating kids like kids isn’t a good way to sell them on a product, sticking the middle finger up to that is how sonic became popular in the 1st place. I agree to an extent but not fully, I am yet to play ori but I am going too so I will need to play it to say if I agree in this specific case but kids can enjoy a game without understanding the story, but yeah Moon Studio and Microsoft left on bad terms reportadly so unlikely to happen
Thanks for the feedback. I totally understand your view and merely offered a perspective on it, I think probably badly, but that I was trying to say that, if a term falls out of common usage, even a negative one, it can be taken up for less nefarious purposes. Context is important.
My late father, the least (deliberately) racist person on earth, kept referring to “coloured people” because he was told it at the time that was less racist than saying black. Watching him attend anti apartheid protests and use that term was very confusing for me at the time.
I suppose all I’m saying is that something can be offensive without the person saying it being offensive. There’s accidental offence and then the malicious kind.
Ultimately we have to evolve as our understanding of language evolves. Dad struggled but I could see him trying.
The key thing is that if you are insulted by it, keep saying so. As long as those who accidentally use it take the feedback on board, that’s actually the perfect outcome.
Would Cygames be a good acquisition? I don’t know much about their studio and the games they make but they have a company size of 5000 employees which could be a way to have growth in Japan.
It’s pretty much just mobile games. Very popular ones but that’s the bulk of them. There’s anime and manga production here to deal with somehow too (which they use to help promote the mobile games using anime series for example. Lots of crossmedia franchises, so just ditching this part could affect popularity)
They’re only just now starting to get into console games with Project Awakening (Western fantasy inspired. Not sure what else there is to it. Info barely exists), Granblue Fantasy Relink (this was initially Platinum Games but it seems Cygames rebooted it without them, and it looks good btw), and Project GAMM (ARPG from Senran Kagura creator. Info barely exists)
0 MS relations whatsoever if that matters.
You’d get a trove of very popular mobile games (Granblue is big, Uma Musume is huge, Princess Connect is pretty big, just to name a few).
In the console space they are unproven. Those 3 console games are unreleased.
Nintendo owns a 5% share on them so I’m not sure how they’d react. Poaching is their usual angle.
they are the next big publisher to be acquired I think its fair to say. If I had to guess who I think Microsoft or Amazon are most likely to move in on them
WB games maybe but ubisoft, doubt it a lot. Ubisoft is publicly traded themselves meaning they are basically just bleeding peoples investment so them selling at this point is the most logical move. They said they will listen and consider any offers themselves
also when those projects are made do you think Ubisoft will want those studio’s working on nothing, they would obviously be working on the next game but lets say hypothetically they did and the stock didn’t recover, that would likely just result in Ubisoft getting a smaller premium for their company. Like right now, I could see ubisoft being pick up for maybe 8ish billion but if they have no projects in works at that moment I could easly see that dropping to 6-7 billion due to the number of studio’s they have which would result in those studios being empty holes if you will where they are paying the employees for doing nothing at that moment
the difference between WB games for reference is WB games is a subsidiary, not the actual company being traded for, as well as the fact that I do think the studios are more likely to be sold of indivually rather than together
Crystal Dynamics is the lead developer for Perfect Dark with Gallagher overseeing the game as the studio head of The Initiative. You don’t pay a third party publisher to loan out Crystal Dynamics just so they can be used as a backup or support. They are the lead studio as they should be.
Defensive and Hindle can correct me if im wrong but he means that if they were to possibly be acquired by someone else or Square Enix were to be acquired, Microsoft would step in and get them because imagine losing them while they’re the lead studio on Perfect Dark.
Sorry but I don’t get this argument, Crystal Dynamics aren’t making the game out of goodwill, they are under contract to deliver the game for Xbox.
Even if Square got brought out it would be 2023+ before the new company could step in and it’s not got going to be worthwhile buying Microsoft out of whatever contract has been agreed.
I like Cygames, they strike me as a company that uses their mobile games to fund the fun stuff they want to make. I don’t really see them fitting well with Microsoft though, while they are using that to push into console gaming they also make anime and stuff. That said, I think they’re only going to get bigger so they’re likely a solid acqusition - though googling suggests they’re already owned.
