Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

no its more like 16K, they have about 20K employees which includes stuff like the legal teams which would be chopped off. Still a lot though

Yeah I do think it is unlikely Nintendo would try to acquire Ubisoft and would get someone like Koei Tecmo but Nintendo has been growing a relationship with Ubisoft recently and working on crossover games such as Mario+Rabbids.

I doubt it is going to happen but at the same time no one expected a Mario movie with Chris Pratt as Mario to ever happen.

those are just spin off games, nintendo hasn’t even acquired companies who make nintendo’s core games like HAL or Intelligent Systems but if they did which I doubt they would I see SEGA or Koei Tecmo before ubisoft, games like assassins creed, watch dogs, far cry ect. don’t fit with nintendo’s kind of games (sure you could argue bayonetta but they only funded it and it was originally when they were sort of desprite with the wii u)

Whenever WB is brought up it’s said that they won’t get the licenses anyway, true or not…

Would that stop them from still making a deal so that Rocksteady can keep making DC games if they wanted? And same for WB Montreal?

I just watched all the footage of Suicide Squad and Gotham Knights again and those are some promising games for sure! Visuals, animations, these studios have proven themselves. If WB has to go anywhere I’d love to see them at XGS.

they won’t…I mean unless they buy WB discovery as a whole

So only 4k people will lose their jobs? Lol

Another option is splitting IP ownership (except more simple than that hilarious Spider man contract)

I doubt that will happen, if it was going too I feel like AT&T would of originally sold it off like that, but they could hypothetically do it

AT&T was just greedy.

There were rumors about Microsoft sniffing around Batman IP and WB.

Sony is not hinting anywhere that they’re looking to buy a publisher (please provide a source to suggest as such). The entirety of Sony’s (as in not just the Playstation Division) told shareholders that they planned to spend $18 billion on acquisitions and investments over the next three years (which is nearly two-thirds of their cash assets). They’ve already spent a decent chunk of that, have a lot of debt coming due soon, and are historically adverse to taking on large amounts of debt especially for acquisitions. Purchasing Bungie, both in cost and size of employees/footprint, aren’t at all analogous to Ubisoft; the cost of Ubisoft’s acquisition is far more than the ~$8 billion that would be required for than the purchase, as 20,000 employees is a massive increase in internal costs (benefits, taxation, HR requirements, etc.).

Also, this is the Xbox Acquisition OT, there is a Sony OT to discuss further.

While that’s true Ubisoft has a lot of developers I don’t think that would stop Sony from acquiring Ubisoft if they wanted to. I do think it’s unlikely it would happen but I do believe Sony has the ability to do it.

They don’t have to release it day 1 they could just add their whole lineup to PlayStation Plus and Ubisoft could still keep Ubisoft+ since I’m sure it would probably be a similar situation to Activision/Blizzard where some games will be multiplatform such a big free to play/online games and single player games would be exclusive.

Also I’m not saying I want Sony to acquire them I just would rather see Sony acquire than seeing Ubisoft die as a company. Since I don’t see Microsoft getting them anytime soon.

I’m not sure how much money Netflix has but I know they do have a lot. But true if they aren’t able to financially acquire them maybe they could find a way to merge.

they confirmed they have $10 billion left to spend Sony has $10 billion left to spend on acquisitions through 2023

just read the end part, so I will stop talking about sony here now

Netflix has at best 10b in cash. They have been running in debt for years. For now I expect nothing more than mobile acquisitions for them.

I’m aware, and like I said that’s $10 billion to be used for the entirety of Sony over through 2024 (https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/26/sony-strategic-investments-gaming-entertainment-subscriptions.html). Aside from the fact that I’ve explicitly reminded people again that this is for the entirety of Sony, it’s also important to remember that they specifically said strategic investments (think their $250 million towards Epic), so it’s not strictly going to be used for acquisitions but partnerships and minority ownership as well.

I agree I’m just saying Nintendo would be a wildcard since you can never really predict Nintendo.

I didn’t mean that Sony was looking to acquire a publisher specifically I meant that Sony was looking to acquire more. Whether it’s a studio or publisher. And I don’t know much about Sony’s financial situation but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible for Sony to acquire Ubisoft.

Also sorry if the discussion went off track I was just trying to discuss the possibilities for a potential Ubisoft acquisition since I don’t think Microsoft will be able to acquire them anytime soon while they are waiting for the Activision/Blizzard deal to go through so that’s why I was bringing up other companies.

Ubisoft games will have to be release Day 1 via Ubisoft+ in any case. They can put backlog catalog to PS+ tiers that is true. They will also have to finance the acquisition - and considering that the games will become exclusive they will lose even more revenue and profits (Ubisoft had 3b in reveue and around 300-400m in profit). So essentially they will have to throw around 8b at a publisher while not commiting much to their own subscription service.

Microsoft buys publishers because they want to produce as much content as possible to feed Game Pass. Unless Sony suddenly pivot to that I do not see buying publishers. The whole Sony proper had around 10b in profit. Them basically throwing their whole yearly profit doesn’t make sense.

I’m not entirely sure but with how fast Ubisoft’s stock price is dropping and what’s going on with the company I wouldn’t be surprised if someone were to acquire them soon.

Ubisoft stock is tanking but factoring in the premium we are still looking at around $8 billion at least, the only major purchase in game I could see netflix doing is telltale assuming they would

I still believe that Amazon will do it if Amazon is really into gaming. Just makes too much sense - a lot of staff and studios at once, Ubisoft+ to improve Amazon Luna etc.

Possibly but there could be potential mergers or maybe even using the acquisition to expand the IP’s into media with movies or tv shows could also be an incentive.
