If we are think long terms its more difficult to read, casual games will push the service the most. Stuff like rockstar games, sport games, battfield, CoD, ect. will have more push than most other series, at the same time veriety is also important. Its also important to note blizzard games are popular in Asia, personally I think getting Japanese publishers isn’t a bad move but locking up more casual content before someone else gets it might be a higher priority. Unless EA sees a stock drop like activision did I doubt them because most of their value is from sports contracts which would have to stay multiplat and likely couldn’t even be locked to game pass a decade or so into the future so to me the most likely targets are take two and Japanese publishers (Capcom, Square Enix, SEGA and maybe Konami’s IP’s namely)
You want more?? O.o
I mean MS has one of the biggest IP in gaming with minecraft and will soom have COD and candy crush.
GTA and fortnite are the other ones but I dont think MS will get away with those acquisitions, specially after ABK…so why don’t strengthen your services with other kind of content? Like japanese games
Certain affinity is a MUST if they want halo infinite to compete with other GAAS.
I have just completed the main story and can see what you mean now.
I could play though the main story missions without any issues whatsoever and really enjoyed them, however in order to play some of the new story missions (e.g. Wakanda) I have to be a certain level which I can only reach by replaying numerous grindy missions which are very boring and repetitive.
I think a standalone Kamala Khan game (e.g. Spider-Man style) would be awesome.
If MS could acquire CD and Eidos so they can make these games without having to worry about monetising them it would be epic!
Yeah it’s definitely a mixed bag overall, it’s a shame cause when it’s working it’s working. But hey I got it cheap and enjoyed my time with it and still have the new content to play sometime so I’m not complaining. Also I would be first in line to buy a standalone Kamala Khan game, I loved that she got a big moment at the end.
Microsoft would get away with take two lol, congress would look at gaming as a whole and see their are multiple revenues for gaming even with the acquisitions, I am saying if Microsoft was thinking long term take two is someone they would likely want to grab before someone else possibly does, if you think Microsoft wouldn’t get away with take two you would need to explain why because…
(Microsoft would still be behind tencent by a noticable amount just be above sony)and if we are talking the idea of Microsoft owning all/most biggest games in the industry, that likely won’t ever happen, MS only owns 1 currently and will own 3 after activision. There is still roblox, fortnite, pokemon, mario, tetris, assassins creed ect.
Absolutely, if they had just concentrated on that main single player campaign I suspect it would have scored much higher.
I agree RE Kamala
Ooooh interesting chart. I assume the “other” in the chart is mobile? Lets wait and see then what will be their next targets after ABK.
Man tencent is truly a monster on its own.
no other is everything else, like I did one with stuff like capcom but they weren’t even visable when using the website I made the piechart on so they are in other and stuff like steam which don’t make their numbers public are also in other but 2020 was a strong year for xbox and activisions year over year revenue increasing by 24.61% and they still didn’t beat sony combinded, granted they came close, and they didn’t even come near tencent. So yeah, if you think their would be monopoly concerns with a take two acquisition or you think it would be blocked you will have to explain why?
Can you imagine that? Cod, minecraft, gta and candy crush all in one roof? MS would be ecstatic if they can get away with that haha (they would pretty much own Colombia’s gaming landscape as gta, cod and minecraft is like, 90% of people play here). Still CAPCOM CAPCOM>>>>the rest.
on personal preference capcom is my favourite 3rd party publisher (nintendo curb stomps capcom and makes my favourite games though), being bias I would want MS to buy either capcom or square next because I like their games the most discounting nintendo and having them all avalible on game pass would be amazing but I think take two is the next play looking at the long term. After that though I do think Microsoft would be smart to look at Japanese publishers, namely Capcom, Square Enix, SEGA and maybe Konami’s IPs
when do you think Activision will go through and when do you think Microsofts next publisher acquisition will be and who will it be?
Personally I think Activision will go though Q4 this year or Q1 next year and I think Microsoft’s next publisher acquisition will be 2023 or early 2024 and if I had to guess, Take Two will be Microsoft’s next pick up
I believe the Activision deal goes through before the year ends. As for next publisher acquisition, if it happens, im going with Ubisoft.
Something tells me its going to be Ubisoft but not necessarily by Microsoft.
As for when the deals end well…I could see it ending this December (at best) but there may be some factors that could potentially affect the time/process of the deal, like the lawsuits (one has been report just recently) or Ukraine war. We also don’t know when the EU regulators will look at the deal (or if they are, we dont know).
But of course I absolutely don’t know how acquisitions of this scale (of any scale actually ) so maybe @Knottian could lend is a hand in here?
I stick to my opinion that it. is gonnna close by december. Next publisher - I believe it will one of. the three - Sega, Square Enix, Capcom.
I think before the end of the year it will close and as for who Microsoft will acquire next in terms of publishers, it depends do they still want more casual games ( if so it’ll be Take Two) or do they want a bigger presence in Japan (it’ll be Capcom or Sega), or do they want to acquire close partners again (like Bethesda then I could see CDPR)?
I don’t see Ubisoft yet because they are too big in terms of employees but it would be interesting especially with the amount of support studios they have. I think they’ll buy Take Two next personally and then they’ll focus on the smaller publishers (relatively speaking) buying a bunch of small publishers then trying to buy a big one could be bad when facing regulators but idk.
I can see Amazon going after Ubisoft. Best option for Amazon there - a lot of studios (I guess around 50?) at once, big presence and they already have Ubisoft+ service that Amazon can integrate into their basic Luna offering (unlike the separate channel like now).
Ubisoft is actually at their weakest point they have been in a long time (at least the last 5 years) like just over a year ago (febuary 2021) Ubisoft stock was going for over double what it is currently going for ($93.04 to $43.73), I don’t think Microsoft will pick them up but they have continued to drop in stock and have a current market cap of $5.92 billion, I do think they are going to be acquired relitively soon. I have had a gut feeling like Amazon and Ubisoft for a long time now though
Also in terms of Japan you missed Square Enix
