No clue who they are but netflix should buy telltale, its a match made in heaven in my opinion

I personally don’t see Netflix going after game publishers. They don’t have the money for that.

I didn’t mention Square because they look like they are declining…everything they’ve released recently looks like it flopped and even their main franchise Final Fantasy isn’t growing as fast as Capcom franchises which have exploded last gen. idk besides FF 14 they don’t look that appealing.

Square Enix is essentially Bethesda at this point (except FF is not as big as TES). Recently watched Matty’s. video about the dark age of Bethesda, and Square Enix is literally doing the same thing as Bethesda did.

to be fair, telltale is just climbing out of bankrupcy so I doubt it would be a pricy purchase

SE is having a similar problem to what capcom was having a few years ago where they tried to become way too westernized

I will watch that video because I still think square makes quality games in their core franchises but thats just me

Yes, but I believe the play of Netflix is about mobile market only. I don’t think they have plans for console or PC gaming. More Apple Arcade rather than Amazon’s.

The problem with Capcom was that Capcom did false assumptions regarding the. western market. With Square Enix the problem is that they produce too much shovelware.

True, just like Bethesda. Basically Matty’s was saying that. Bethesda produced 25% good and 75% crap - their core franchise like TES was good, but they also made stuff like horse racing, drag racing games, games like rogue warrior etc.

thats fair but I stand by my statement that it would be a match made in heaven

Oh I assumed it would be about how buggy their games are/can be + fallout 76

But even their titles that review well like Final Fantasy 7 Remake only sold like 8 million max? When it should have been approaching 20 million with how hyped it was. It’s also their biggest franchise which is not really good especially when you compare it to other big Japanese games like Monster Hunter.

That’s a separate problem and the fault lies purely in Square Enix (and Sony for that matter). FF is the exclusive game for the platform in the market where Switch and PC exists. And then Square Enix ported FF year later by making a crappy port., exclusive to EGS. Square Enix is just not interested in selling a lot of copies of their games. I don’t remember who said that, but basically Square Enix makes games for the platforms holders rather than the consumers. Their main cash cow right now is FF14.

I will say square is cheaper than capcom (granted not by a massive amount) and owns dragon quest which a dragon quest game dropping in Japan is like a holiday which is why I call them the company which would break them into Japan with no issue despite capcom also doing that well

just watched the video and fair tbh, I don’t think its that bad but I also was a switch player and until recently didn’t step out of the Nintendo bubble and square makes great nintendo switch games. Still I see the point and agree with it to an extent

Personally I think it will be Ubisoft (if another tech giant doesn’t pick them up beforehand).

It will give them a massive foothold in Europe and Asia, plus it will give them regular annual AAA games to pump into GamePass. TakeTwo are amazing but outside of 2K (which would likely stay multi-platform) are IMO pretty slow in releasing new games (GTA5 will be 10 years old in 23).

fair point but 4 counter points.

  1. While take 2 definitely doesn’t release games as often, when they release a game (particularly rockstar) its like a massive event

  2. while Ubisoft definitely has a good backlog, I feel like getting the GTA’s, Red deads, bioshocks, boarderlands, Mafia’s, xcoms, civilizations ect. into game pass would be far more enticing of a push to game pass

  3. T2 will own the 2nd biggest mobile dev behind king

  4. Rockstar’s online games (GTA online, Red Dead online and potentially more if they revisit other franchises after GTA 6 like bully online) will offer continuess cash flows without coming off as scummy or greedy

but Ubisoft does have a well oiled mechine just cranking out games not to mention they will fill holes (namely the 3rd person games sony is known for and even some E rated content like just dance, the rabbids and rayman. On top of that you would get the tom clancy games which would give Microsoft control of most FPS games, like the only major FPS games that come to mind are made from Bungie, EA and Valve) and Microsoft could get them for relitively cheap right now so yeah I don’t think they are a bad buy by any means, just giving my 2 cents

I agree with your points, however with point 2 I’m just thinking from the perspective of a subscription model.

Ubisoft often release 4-5 big games a year, does 1 big hit every 3-4 years outweigh a steady flow of Ubi games?

E.g. in 2020 they released:

  • Watch Dogs Legion
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Just Dance 2021
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • Immortals Fenyx Rising
  • Division 2 (Stadia Port)
  • Crew 2 (Stadia Port)
  • AGOS (VR title)
  • Numerous mobile games

Then in 2021:

  • Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (remaster)
  • FarCry 6
  • Riders Republic
  • Just Dance 2022
  • Rainbow Six Extraction (technically delayed to January 22).
  • Numerous mobile games

When you consider GamePass is currently providing us around 4-5 first party titles a year this would double it (I appreciate the first party output is currently in its infancy).

In that same timeframe T2 gave us:

  • GTA Trilogy (we know how that turned out)
  • PGA 2K21
  • NBA 2K21 & 2K22
  • WWE 2K
  • Numerous Switch & Stadia ports

like I said Ubisoft has a well oiled mechine, I would be dumb to deny that that. I do probably sleep on them way too much as a potential acquisition but I just feel like their are more likely targets

Either way, I was just giving my 2 cents sd I do see take two as a more benifical acquisition, I have no shame in admitting ubisoft has a lot of benifits though. I even listed a ton in that message granted though editting

Both have massive appeal, it’s clear T2 own some of the biggest IP’s around and like you say Zynga is a massive cash cow (they have been growing rapidly themselves through their own acquisitions).

I personally think Xbox will be looking at how they can provide ongoing regular content for GP so there are no ‘dry patches’ and Ubisoft are one of the few publishers which can do that outside of perhaps EA who released 21 games in the same timeframe (mostly sports and racing) - but are included in GPU anyway.

I half agree, the reason I think Microsoft might look at take two though is more because they don’t want to run the risk of someone else grabbing them granted if we are looking at a conistant line of games Ubisoft is one of the better buys

I thought acquiring Epic Games was impossible since the CEO and founder of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, owns a majority share (51% of shares or more. I hope that’s right. Shares stuff isn’t my best topic) and doesn’t seem interested in letting anyone acquire Epic Games?
