Jez has said Mojang has an independence clause, so that’s why I mentioned it.
KADOKAWA owns fromsoft & I doubt they are intresting in selling them, escpecially after elden ring, which is why I usually think Sony is more likely to acquire them if anyone does not Microsoft or Amazon or Apple or whoever else. Because I could picture Sony actually acquiring KADOKAWA, KADOKAWA while pricy isn’t out of sony’s price range and alines with stuff sony has been investing in like anime, TV and music
Yeah I could see Microsoft trying to publish a fromsoft game, that feels realistic
ehhhhh…depends on the game and price, like Minecraft is the biggest game of all time, I doubt Microsoft cared if it stayed multiplat or not because they knew the fact micecraft had that potential, lets say Microsoft bought…ROBLOX, I think that would be ported to every console known to man if that happened, I doubt it will though
Brad Smith seemed to indicate differently
Microsoft does not have policy of removing the existing games from the plaform. Irregardless the price or size. So Roblox will stay available.
No, he didn’t. But I don’t want to engage in that discussion again.
I don’t think this will happen, and even if it does, I think Bandai Namco would contend for that ownership. Their share on Kadokawa is bigger than Sony’s.
…I am fairly sure in terms of consoles ROBLOX is only on xbox, granted a PlayStation version is being rumoured. I am honestly shocked roblox is yet to touch a nintendo console
I could see Bandi Namco trying but Sony is worth a lot more than them and if I am not mistaken has more money on hand than Namco so I think Sony would win
I am pretty sure Tencent would also engage in bidding.
I might be mistaken but I don’t believe tencent has a foot in anime, music and stuff like that, I think they were just making an investment
edit: just checked, they have a foot in music but not anime
Tencent is enigma. Who knows what is on other mind.
Regarding From Software, I wonder if there is some exclusive game in development for Xbox or Sony from them. There were rumors about that, but now - after Elden Ring - it would generate a crazy hype for the platform holder.
Well no matter what happens there I’m not too worried about FromSoft going Sony exclusive because again like I always say I think Kadokawa would remain “independent” in the same way Aniplex is (their gaming division publishing both Switch and Xbox exclusives).
if someone buys them I would imagine it would still come to PC but be exclusive to consoles. If fromsoft was for sale and not in a position where you had to buy KADOKAWA which I doubt will happen I feel like everyone would jump into that bidding war
ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it depends, this stuff can be remanged/restructured and if it isn’t a clause of the acquisition I don’t think they could stop them from making it exclusive
I say this because SIE (PlayStation) and Sony are “different companies” in a sense. SIE would not be involved in a Kadokawa acquisition because it’s not gaming. We can see that Sony putting Crunchyroll on Game Pass and not PS+ shows that Sony wouldn’t necessarily favor SIE in this deal (SIE obviously would veto this Game Pass deal away if they had the power to). If Sony thinks keeping Kadokawa’s gaming division multplat would be more profitable then I think that’s what they’d do, even if it infuriates SIE. That’s why I even take it a step further and say that Sony acquiring Kadokawa doesn’t even prevent MS from doing a FromSoft exclusive, because for Sony that’s a nice paycheck.
Again this is all me guessing Sony would NOT transfer FromSoft to SIE but keep them under Kadokawa, that’s how I think this would go. It would take strong arguments from SIE to Sony to convince them that exclusivity would be more profitable.
I think we saw something similar with Demon Slayer anime game that is multiplatform and a lot of people in Playstation community were confused why it was not exclusive.
Yes. it’s because SIE has no involvement or control over Aniplex.
Aniplex has developed and published some Switch exclusive games (some cooking game in the Fate universe) and very recently published RPG Time which is exclusive to Xbox.
Yeah. Well, in the end Sony is a conglomerate consisting of 4 companies.
Without hard evidence it’s only speculation, he’s not truth’s gospel.
They do not, Jez is wrong here; Mojang continues to make multiplatform releases because MS understood the value of having the world’s largest IP continue in its current trajectory, especially given its presence in education and the myriad of benefits that can be garnered by keeping their titles accessible to as many as possible.
I think some of you need to realign what acquisitions ultimately mean to both Sony and Microsoft. Furthermore, arguing about speculation in regards to whether an acquisition would produce exclusives consistently make this thread derail by the usual suspects. Last warning, suspensions are next.
Also, some of you need to take a breath and remember that you have no idea who Xbox is talking to, what or why they’d be looking at potential targets, and/or if any of those titles would be exclusive (for all intents and purposes, given the many avenues that talk is circulated on here, the latter does not belong in this thread). So take a step back and drop the sanctimonious attitudes when responding to the others in the community, they’re in the same boat as you. It’s as if ABK’s left-field acquisition taught you nothing.
You have your opinion on WB and I respect that. I feel those studios are extremely talented and don’t have to come with IP to be valuable and I’m sure Xbox feels the same. Everyone seems to think all studios must come with IP to be a good purchase I just disagree, I feel like the people justify the purchase after all they are the ones making the IP and the games not to mention all the dead IP that Xbox has. Studio’s like the initiative can pick up something that has not been worked on forever and all the sudden you can have a great series again. When it comes to licenses you can license out to more than one company for example look at lucasfilm and the many star wars games coming out.
So what you are saying MS going to get
Capcom
WB
Fromsoftware
Ubisoft
and Konami
