Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

With the changes in Xbox/Microsoft since then I could see a new IP from Mojang be exclusive to PC/Xbox

Yeah, I agree. I think Ori and Minecraft Dungeons releases were in the era where Microsoft was not sure what they wanted to do and did not expect Series consoles to be a success it was, did not expect COVID and so on. Now the market has changed. Just like after ATVI deal.

Is that true though? They’re one of the best developers, produce content that Xbox doesn’t have currently, have two GOTY games that they own the IP for, would diversify gamepass and also take away someone that produced really big exclusives for the competition. This situation is different than Bungie.

The discussion is about purchasing From Software but allowing FS to make multiplatform games.

Yeah and I think it makes sense.

It sets a terrible precedent which is why MS would never agree to keep them multi platform. All studios or publishers they approach would demand the same thing.

Why even bring this up though? Why would Kadakowa sell them?

Except it doesn’t. Microsoft won’t buy studios just to continue making multiplatform games.

Why not? I don’t expect Microsoft to buy FS either, but we can discuss the stratagems.

I mean, not every game from abk is going to be exclusive

Also I dont think ms needs to give them that type of freedom because they arent a big publisher

Thats the same question I make when people brings up avalanche studios, I doubt that nordisk is going to sell them

I am pretty sure all new games are gonna be exclusive. Nobody expects Blizzards’ new IP to be multiplatform no? And the games like Overwatch (granted Overwatch 2 is upgrade over OW1), maybe Diablo 4 (we are not sure), maybe WOW (we don’t know), Warzone 2 (Warzone 1 is gonna be retired sooner or later), bunch of contractual COD games are gonna be multiplatform. But that’s expected and you cannot avoid that if you purchase the studio or publishers that has the games already in development.

I mean nobody expects Double Fine to make Playstation exclusive games in the future no (despite them releasing P2 multiplatform)? Or Insomniac releasing TOW2 multiplatform etc.

They’d be exclusive to Microsoft’s service

The point is that studios that Microsoft own won’t release the games on Playstation (or Switch) without Game Pass attached there. Independently.

Even online games are exclusive as neither Grounded nor Sea of Thieves exist on Playstation (you would think they could make the argument that they require bigger community or something). No reason to believe that other games won’t follow the pattern. In fact, I would not be surprised if Microsoft would make WOW console exclusive (it all depends on when it is gonna be released) as we have the example of FF14 or GI that games are doing just fine without Xbox platform and we are not in PS4/XO era anymore.

Microsoft is very aware the importance of exclusivity. They don’t go at great length like Disney though, who removes the content from other platform - however as soon as subscription services take off - you can be sure no Microsoft content will be in those services (while still staying in PSN store for example)

Strategy talk is typically about strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. From Software doesn’t fit in any hypothetical discussion along those lines.

Why not focus on what’s attainable?

I suspect that ATVI was not attainable either :stuck_out_tongue:

Those situations aren’t anything alike. Any publicly traded company is for sale for the right price.

From Software is not independent and it is within a multimedia conglomerate with businesses that Microsoft has shown absolutely no interest in.

The company’s they worked with within the last 10 years, who’s left they would want? Iron Galaxy has said publicly they don’t want to be acquired, Asobo, I doubt at this point will be acquired. Moon, that ship sailed. Remedy, did you see them on Twitter praising Horizons launch, they rarely, if ever do that for Xbox games.

I am not sure about that, the best thing we can do is wait and see because I doubt that everything new will be exclusive seeing how microsoft is dealing with the ftc in this acquisition

Well, some Diablo 1 remaster might be multiplatform (like Quake Remaster) but new games are gonna be exclusive 100% (though if you consider WOW console edition as a new game, then it is not)

I don’t know about that if the FTC allows the deal with no concessions since MS is third place in the console space and much smaller in the gaming space as a whole they’ll be able to do whatever they want like the Bethesda purchase.
