They’ve primarily been a switch developer, but their IP are a big influence in Japan. Not the biggest but I would take them just on that. Give them a proper budget, with better development tools, more staff. They could create something special
Absolutely, xbox and the studios/publishers have agreements to bring any kind of game to gamepass, it’s not xbox fault that from every 10-12 games coming monthly 1 of them is “bad” or “mediocre” (though I liked D&D: Dark Alliance :3)
Microsoft cancelled Obsidian’s game and nearly sent them bankrupt, minimum working with Inxile, hadnt worked with Double Fine in ages, etc and the same logic with with Bungie and Nixxes.
You only need to have a desire to sell and thats it.
They legit haven’t done much since Ni No Kuni in the PS3 era and Yo-Kai flopped badly that they pivoted to mobile gaming.
We should stop making up rules when they are proved time and time again to be wrong.
Yeah, I think we need to slow down on past relationship talks because many of those are considered ancient. Team Ninja for example is not the same people in charge when they had a relationship with Xbox. Also, Mistwalker is not even the same type of studio anymore and they focus mainly on mobile. I think the key for acquisition is studio/publisher having the desire to sell. At the end of the day money talks and if Microsoft, Sony or whoever shows them the money then they would sell to that company
Any kind of rules went out the window with this Activision acquisition.
We just saw BUNGIE go to Sony. Like lol.
“Relationships”
Ninja Theory had a much closer relationship to Sony than Microsoft and look where they ended up. The only relationship in this is money and shareholders being happy.
Thinking on that tweet from Kamiya, I can’t help but wonder how things would work out if Xbox were to acquire Platinum. Platinum has a lot of talent with the ability to make great games across a variety of genres. If they had the resources Xbox could offer, not having to stretch themselves across so many projects just to stay afloat, or getting to staff up, then it seems exciting to think what they could make and the variety of games they could bring to Game Pass. Their output is unlike anything else in the Xbox portfolio and having Game Pass and xCloud as a way to distribute their games seems like it could be a win-win for both Xbox and Platinum.
I also can’t imagine any uproar over Xbox acquiring Platinum like there might be for other well-known Asian studios. If anything, I think people might be very curious to see what Platinum could do with Xbox resources and greater focus.
I was dreaming with this idea since 2018, they could definitely bring diversity to the xbox portfolio, I mean just see their games
The idea of a new jet force gemini or conker by them is fantastic, but again, I dont see it happening with the relationship that they have right now
But we got activision, so anything is possible now
Only thing I wish we would retire is that Metaverse buzzword.
The acquisition path forward is very clear. It starts with locking down amazing independent developers that deliver high quality games. The next ones should be Asobo, IOI, CDPR and Supergiant. Then lock in key partner studios in Behavoir Interactive and Certain Affinity. Afterwards acquire Sega in the last big move. From there the objective is to focus on your studios and support them. Acquisitions after that should focus on developing countries for gaming.
Platinum kind of fits the same mold as Obsidian, where Xbox had a game with them and then cancelled it, putting the studio in somewhat of a tough situation. Additionally, Platinum has shown they can make highly acclaimed games over the course of their history, but they could probably use more resources to really shine.
If Platinum sees that Tango is in a good place and they are getting to make what they want, then that could go a long way towards convincing other Asian studios to consider joining the Xbox family.
They’ve made a game every single year for like 10 years Javy? Yes they moved to mobile for certain projects but they have been making games for switch since the console released. And so what if Yo Kai flopped? All that matters is the quality. Good games flop all the time, does that mean you give up on them? That’s rhetorical, you don’t. If that was the case MS should have canned Forza Horizon a long time ago. Both Forza Horizon 1, and 2 sold less than a million, but MS was smart enough to realize that the quality was always there and kept at it. Now it’s a recognizable brand worldwide. Most of their games are all critical successes, and could become very big.
Behind the scenes Javier, they are always working with each other. Communicating. The Obsidian thing was Don Mattrick, Phil clearly fixed it.
Each publisher is different, and each company.
Good old Javy tunnel vision
They wouldn’t be my first pick and I was just talking about if Wizards of The Coast gets bought, because of the previous post.
That also being said, just because a company makes a bad game in the past doesn’t mean you can’t make a great game in the future.
Look at Naughty Dog as an example they made the game Way of the Warrior and that game was hot garbage, yet today they are known as one of the greatest developers around.
So your past shouldn’t define your future.
ahhh these JP publishers are public traded companies, the highest bidder would get them that it. No relationship, oh No it’s MS or whatever. shareholders will flame the board if they don’t accept the highest bidder.
wait, what happened ?
also what it wrong there a room for improvemnt that is for sure and they would get it with MS
also their other studio by ex bioware devs working on AAA Game right now.
