And they were laughed out of the room.

Not in the case of Sqaure.

I think we see MS contract, and fund a host of games in Japan, with say Capcom or Namco.

Namco being rumoured to be making Killer Instinct kinda backs this up.

Microsoft needs to work with Team Ninja again and reboot Ninja Gaiden.

Koei Tecmo was one of the companies saying they want to see Xbox fully commit to Japan before they commit to Xbox. Not sure if we’re at the point they’d work on an XGS game yet.

Reviving Level 5 would be a great move

Eh, they’re probably better off making another new IP. Nioh worked out really well for them and seems to have paved the way for their Final Fantasy game.

If they were acquired? Idk if I’d have them work on Ninja Gaiden unless they were very passionate about it. Otherwise I’m sure there’s another team out there that could work on the franchise.

We don’t have enough fast paced hack and slash games nowadays.

MS do need a spectacle fighter. Man the original Ninja Gaiden was class

Team Ninja and Level 5 are like flashes from the past.

Is post-Itagaki team ninja really that interesting? I guess if you like souls games.

What is it with people and level 5? Havent made a good console game since like the PS3 and they moved on to focus on mobile games now.

Much better targets out.

Yeah, my biggest issue with Koiei in general is their price tag.

I think MS should make a long term game pass deal with them and fund some of their games as exclusives instead of outright buying them.

Every dev goes through cycles and with the size, the potential is huge

They should do this with every Japanese dev

I disagree, otherwise Tencent, NetEase, or someone else may go for them. If they have a strong relationship with a developer/publisher and they want to make it a permanent partnership, then I don’t see why MS shouldn’t attempt. If the publisher agrees, what’s so bad about that?

I don’t see why them being in Japan would be the one sticking point when Phil has said he wants hubs in unnatural places and that Japan is specifically a place of interest.

Exactly. Microsoft needs a solid base in Japan and Capcom would fill that role from there they can acquire more Japanese studios and put them under the Capcom label for instance and allow them to self manage themselves.

The publishers in Japan wouldnt agree to being bought by MS though as there is little in the way of trust or relationship. Read the comments from the Koei president to get an idea.

I doubt Sega, Capcom, sell out to anybody, however they would gladly take funding

I think they would agree to sell for instance an Xbox insider forgot which one did say that Capcom and MS were in talks in the past so they are willing but MS just needs to convince them.

I honestly think Phil is happy with just getting Japanese games on XGP and funding exclusives, and has no real intention of buying anyone there
