Will they acquire another publisher? Eventually but probably not this year. I agree with most folks that a Japanese publisher seems most likely. Though my out-of-left-field thought is Epic. I’m betting they want Valve more than anyone (and Gabe likely isn’t selling) but acquiring all those GaaS IPs, the PC marketplace and the engines would be very, very appealing. It also likely wouldn’t result in the same antitrust concerns as a Valve acquisition.

Oh for fucks sake, go back to the 90s when Sony was selling the PS1 at loss to have a cheaper price than the Saturn, especially in the US with the famous “299” quote that ended the 32 bit generation right there because they were using the company vast fortune to afford this + more than 100 million dollars in marketing, then the same thing with the PS2 against the Dreamcast as it was sold at 100 dollars at loss, no one went there and sued to force them to sell at the factory price.
It’s incredible how this brand is seen as some kind of antichrist, ctulhu, genocider, death start, insert X evil, but when the others were riping off customers and jeopardizing devs it was all okay. Sony was doing what Microsoft is doing and no one bats an eye.

I think Microsoft will still make purchases of studios this year. And I believe they will be one that can be folded into xbox publishing or Bethesda. One so it isn’t so much on Phil’s plate and have people he trust to manage them. His focus will be on A/B which is why I don’t see another publisher till that’s done.

Good lord I hope Microsoft doesn’t buy Roblox. The business model is disgusting and predatory. Check out People Make Games documentary about it. It’s a huge IP, but they’d need to rework it a lot if they don’t want to catch huge flack and that basically makes it a less profitable venture.
I think MS definitely will buy more and I can’t help but wonder if StarBreeze will be one of the companies MS goes after. StarBreeze has had some financial problems, but the series Pay Day could be a good one to permanently have on Game Pass.
Getting TinyBuild to have Hello Neighbor and all of it’s spinoffs on Game Pass would be smart.
Tequila Works, WayForward, Rockfish Games and IllFonic would also be all good studios to get for Game Pass.
GTA6 is going to be insane. If anyone wants T2, they should get them before GTA6 release.

Considering also it’s an extremely vague announcement, which only confirms it’s in development (no shit, almost 10 years since 5 XD) and it gaves absolutely no timeframe for even a showing, not actual release dates. It’s a nothing burger as a matter of fact, but being it GTA6…
