Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

They were pretty bullish “we are the one acquiring, not getting acquired”. XD

If we’re just looking at Sega Japan sure, they don’t need them. But that Sega Europe Branch is everything Sony doesn’t have.

We have PS5s here in Fiji but I refuse to buy it because I want a series X. I spoke to some retailers here and they said they won’t bring xboxes in because of low demand. I’m holding out hope for someone to come from Australia whom I can pay to buy the console for me

but they have the IPs tho nd they sell a lot too i think Ubi might be the target for many

But they already bought two publishers who fit the bill for “Large Community of Players”. Now you need the niche community of players, SEGA.

Ima be real with you, those studios are meh at best. Especially tri-ace. They’ve sucked for years now. Their recent games are hot garbage. Falcom’s the better buy.

Dude you copied the post, I answered your question in the first sentence

I don’t imagine many of the millions of players on Nintendo and Sony consoles are likely to move over to xbox/pc until MS improves their Japanese game output. If MS wants to really grow gamepass then they’re going to need some of them.

Sega has diverse/good IP such as Yakuza, Phantasy Star, Sonic, Valkyria Chronicles, Sakura Wars, Persona, and Shin Megami (not to mention lot’s of old IP that can be brought out such as Shinobi). Some of these are already relatively successful, but I think their games could grow into something great with bigger budgets. Sega outputs good games but they don’t have the backing to be on the same level as Sony/Nintendo like in the past. As others have mentioned, MS would also benefit from Sega’s strategy games on pc.

The only area that I see lacking in Game Pass is family and E rated games.

Games everyone can pick up and have a good time with family and friends. There are a few good ones on Game Pass, but a permenant exclusive will be great.

A good Kart racing game for example.

These games are a big focus that Phil has mentioned a few times, and hopefully we see some of these soon, either by acquisition or a deal.

Regarding kart racing games, KartRider: Drift should release as a F2P this year. Hopefully it’ll scratch some of that itch.

If we are lucky we will get a lot of those from the ABK acquisition

Hopefully when all those studios can stop getting forced on CoD

I hope Crash Team Racing finds its way to Game Pass soon and then Beenox gets to make another one.

Correct, they would be cheap and add quite a bit (8-10 studios or whatever …not to mention that Sweet Sega nostalgia and multiple consoles worth of games) …Microsoft doesn’t necessarily need bangers for the West, Call of Duty and Elder Scrolls have that covered. What they need is to eliminate their weaknesses…Gamepass has J content, but not a lot of exclusive J content.

Yep…and there’s still a couple of HUGE ip’s they covet…thats also a gaas…and also a n-a-r-r-a-t-i-v-e third person game.

Bingo. No rush of course, T2 is well outside Sonys bounds and when Xbox wants it (probably post AB closure) they’ll go get it.

Regardless, I wouldn’t consider Microsoft done until they have a Japanese publisher.

Yes I agree the games in their current state would probably not move the needle significantly, but this is also reflected in Sega’s price. The relatively cheap cost of a Sega purchase would allow MS to easily put money into expanding them and making bigger/better games. They would probably also need to pick up a few other Japanese studios or start new ones in order to capture some of that gamer segment. I imagine though that the costs would still be relatively low compared to a lot of other possibilities.

MS’s publisher acquisitions seemed to be to get them the biggest IPs in the industry. None of the Japanese publishers seem to fall under this. I suppose MS can grab Sega or whoever to “fill in their JP content gap”, but it’s a pretty nuclear option of doing it IMO.

Like I already said, I think JP multiplat hunting, Game Pass additions (seems to be building a fanbase for this kind of stuff on Xbox nicely), and at most, an XGS published JRPG or a studio acquisition or 2 would be enough.

I think that’s really the only way to make a breakthrough in that market, they’ve tried any other possible strategy in the last 20 years (marketing deals, buying 3rd party exclusives, 2nd party relationships, etc…) and the only time they were kinda succeeding, japanese games were at their lowest and MS shifted focus shortly after towards Kinect and casual stuff with Don Mattrick. It’s really an unlucky story, now you need to add up the cultural divide = disaster.

The biggest game franchises? Nintendo yes, Capcom no… IMO!

  1. Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda & Pokémon (Nintendo)

  2. FIFA, Sims, Madden, Need For Speed (EA)

  3. GTA & NBA (Take Two)

  4. Lego & Mortal Kombat (WB Games)

  5. Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider & Dragon Quest (Square)

  6. Assassin’s Creed & Tom Clancy (Ubisoft)

  7. Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA)

  8. Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter & PES (Capcom)

and i’m going to be real with you, those studios make games way more popular than falcom games. the average gamer doesn’t care about their games. in japan AND the west.
