Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

If Phil can fix Radical and Beenox. Then yes it was worth it. Those were to a lesser extent Insomniac, Sucker Punch type studios.

You honestly deserve the Chief sendoff, you crazy studio conjuring frost giant!

It seems like the only real concern people are having with the Activision and Blizzard acquisition is COD. I really think that they could honestly acquire another publisher with absolutely no problem whatsoever as long as it wasn’t Take Two (GTA) .

I honestly think they could even acquire EA after this with no problem.

I’d say EA would cause a bunch of “issues” online too.

Here would be the takes…

“MUH SPORTS GAMES!”

“Bioware hasn’t been good in years!”

“MONOPOLIZING FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS AND RPGS!”

Honestly, I still think a Korean or Japanese publisher still makes the most sense, but hey, I ain’t Phil and he kinda pulls the unexpected.

They definitely could not acquire EA without a problem. You really think they can get away with buying the two largest publishers?

Yeah I don’t think EA would be the best play, just that they could get away with it.

I think Capcom makes the most sense still or going the individual studio route and curating premium teams. Just that honestly the sole focus around COD is actually ENCOURAGING.

I do based on the response. I think people would me all meh no big deal much is multiplat.

I don’t think regulators will have a problem with Activision Blizzard, I think they will if MS just goes down the list of largest publishers buying them up though.

Yes, doubt they want to be seen as too aggressive before this deal is done. Smaller things like individual studios is still on though I think.

BioWare, I see EA giving it one more try with Dragon Age 4

Sports games, idk Madden and NBA2k is tied to EA and Take Two exclusively. Although they about to lose the FIFA license

Asian studios. I think it’s best we just organically grow there with maybe some smaller studio acquisitions

I think Mass Effect 4 is the big one.

I definitely don’t disagree smaller studios might be a good way to start in Japan, but I’d say Microsoft also has to be wary about other buyers.

There wouldn’t be any negative press and parade will occur in their honor.

I think we the last week proves there is an inherit bias in the console gaming press, any more logic will just be ignored by them. At least MS can justify the acquisition as rehabbing a failing publisher while all sony does it prevent people from playing games on xbox.

That would be takes but regulators would be like :man_shrugging: Multiplatform games and some IP that have been diminished

Like I said though, just my opinion they could get away with it. Smart money would be Capcom or individual studios to curate the first party to cover some niches, jrpg, fighting, horror, sad dad.

The appearance of being a monopoly to an emotional lay person is of course not the same thing as actually being one based off of legally defined financial parameters. AB and even another publisher wouldn’t rise to that standard so if it was disallowed it would be a case fearmongering causing an erroneous ruling to be handed down.

I really dont think MS need another publisher, at least not anytime soon

If they ever do id want them to look to Japan but for now id like them to lock up the devs they are already working with

In particular CD as I can really feel Sony or someone will target square at some point and losing them after Perfect Dark would suck, another Double Helix situation

Yep. Their best bet at getting a large backlog of IP is through a publisher.
