i would leave this case to Prog when get out of jail
interesting market thinks Capcom, UBI are major next targets
Of course. Microsoft is showing that publishers, even the biggest one out there, are not off the table and there are other big fish out there who might want to get in on the action.
By the way, on a certain forum you have people who have convinced themselves that Sony’s drop, the biggest for a long time, has nothing to do with Microsoft and just a general trend in the market. They are honestly delusional lol.
oh other fourm i’m still catching up many pages left to read i missed half the party yesterday my internet was down
Agreed.
Not to sound greedy or ungrateful: $70 billion could have bought multiple publishers, dozens (hundreds?) of devs, or a thousand indie teams. Now, none of them having the draw of CoD so this purchase is pretty justifiable because 1 huge name can have a larger impact than 1000 unknowns (where you hope 1 or 2 could be the next Minecraft/Roblox/FNAF). So I’m definitely contrasting quantity with quality and GP really needs consistent tentpole titles so this purchase was fantastic.
But I’d argue that when it comes to new content for Game Pass, quantity should be a major consideration now that “big name draw” covered.
So I’m hoping that we see a lot more smaller purchases to flesh out releases. And yes I think 100 talented indie teams should be a target. 10 AA studios. 2-3 AAA studios.
Again, not to sound ungrateful or downplaying this purchase. Blizzard alone is a huge get. Few games are as big as theirs.
IOI, Asobo, CD…all still important targets. Considering this most recent purchase I would rather billions are spent on hundreds of teams than on a Take Two. If it’s a history rich Japanese developer, I’m okay with that.
Again, I know I’m sounding ungrateful because this purchase goes a long way in furthering justifying my GPU sub. But I want MOAR
I do wonder if Xbox will also focus on free to play properties and mobile properties now as part of their portfolio.
If you look at all of the biggest player bases out there they are nearly all Free to Play and owned by Tencent or Nexon.
In the light of the reports that claim that the negotiations began in November, im proposing this OT title:
|OT5| Apparently these things don’t take time!
Really makes you wonder, what else Microsoft has been working on in the meantime. We may never know.
There goes Sony’s acquisition budget for the next 3 years.
Thats the thing you how to think MS was in talks with other studios before that as well which is crazy
Is there a list of all the IP now under Xbox? Activision/Blizzard/King seems to have A LOT dating back years.
I mean do we still think MS will actually make another acquisition? it has already been 14 months since the Zenimax acquisition and only 1 acquisition has been announcend!
They’re sleeping at the wheel ugh
Capcom would now be the one acquisition that would fully cover Microsofts portfolio including more niche areas.
Capcom would deliver industry leading JRPG, Fighting, Horror and Action Adventure.
This bomb actual trimmed down my acquisition target list a little bit

Out:
Good List!
If probably thrown in a few others to fill in some gaps:
-
NetherRealm for a solid fighting team
-
Supermassive for short, cinematic experiences that could be annualized
-
CyberConnect2 - third person adventure and fighting games, also a bit more Japan presence
-
SEGA/CAPCOM - For obvious reasons
-
Supergiant for premier, small experiences
-
Forgotten Empires, a team to help internally with RTS titles if SEGA is not an option
So many options still out there now, but I agree that the news from yesterday has definitely cut down the want/need for some of our previously wishlisted teams.
My list actually got much shorter…
Forgotten Realms Gears for Breakfast Mistwalker As well as getting hare brained schemes from paradox…
But in all honesty… I dont want MS buying anything for awhile… we cant keep feeding the fever dream that we must get acquisitions. Not just because of consolidation of the industry. But for the mental health of our community as a whole… the “our team needs to buy x before y does” will only fuel list wars
Plus they are relatively cheap. CDPR and Bungie will likely sell for more than Capcom but a lot of the value of Capcom franchises is tied to the other console manufacturers. So it isn’t a no brainer buy for Xbox.
