Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

Not an acquisition in an M&A sense, but if Microsoft were to pick up the Fifa licence when they break away from EA, that would pretty ballsy - make their own football game with poached staff from EA and Konami

it would not be exclusive but it could be good investment if hit the right mark.

What do ya’ll think about if MS were to acquire a JP giant like Sega or Capcom, but with the catch that they’re still allowed to release on Nintendo (NOT Playstation). The bigger AAA IPs that aren’t really popular in Japan, that may not run on Nintendo hardware can be exclusive to Xbox (Resident Evil), but something like Monster Hunter or Sonic will still be on Nintendo (as well as Xbox).

I think this would still help build a fanbase of JP content on Xbox in the West which would immensely help with JP support, and also keep the Japanese audience happy, because it’s Nintendo or nothing over there nowadays, which I think is the major dealbreaker for any JP studio selling to Xbox (or even Sony). It would make actually acquiring one of these A LOT easier too (still think it would possibly be one of MS’s toughest challenges though)

If you could get pseudo-Fifa and COD on Gamepass day one, while they’re either not on the Playstation, or are £70 on Playstation, it would surely resonate with the enormous casual market

All right who’s next…

I agree with you. I think Take Two is valued at 28 billion based on Geoff Keighley tweet, so I don’t think Sony has that type of cash.

lol

Yea. I said before I don’t see Microsoft going after anymore big publishers UNTIL this deal is finalized. This is the perfect time for Sony to strike imo.

do we see xbox going after any smaller studios while we wait for this to close in the next year and a half? Asobo?

We’ll see what they will say at the earnings call next week. We’ll know what their goal from this point forward. If Satya says something about not done acquiring, well, beware.

I mean IOI could be next target if things work out between the two, so yes they will.

IOI one of studios work on multiple games at same time now, so Perfect for GP really

This is pure speculation on my part, but I have to wonder if the growing rumors about Sony’s Spartacus helped push this along. And by push along I mean Microsoft not being too picky about the dollar amount and paying a bit more to make this happen.

Sony has the userbase and games library to hit half of GP numbers (sitting at 25 million) pretty quickly. Probably hit 25 million in 2 years especially if they did make their new games day one on the service.

With how long these deals take to become official the sooner the better and I feel like this move puts Microsoft ahead in terms of creating the more enticing game rental service. I’ve always seen the hypothetical Sony service as the Disney Plus versus Microsoft’s Netflix because of Sony’s first party pedigree. But now Microsoft has a first party pedigree that is now just as enticing.

It also seems like the timing indicates that when it comes to these big purchases of publishers that the news will go out ASAP. News of acquisitions of developers might be saved for E3 just as a were a few years ago.

perfect time to buy sony shares, it will go up in coming months

AH. This means Xbox marketing sucked because of MS draconian management? I always thought something was off, 360 marketing and even Don Mattrick’s era marketing was way better than the current one. It means it was integrated within the whole MS marketing (which is ok for business, but crap for consumers) from Myerson era.

I understand Bizarre Studios is no more, but do we think we’ll see another Project Gotham Racing out of this or not?

The talent from my understanding is still at Activision, so I’d love this to be the case, but I’m not sure if this will happen or not.

BTW Does this put DC/WB back on the table ? MS to own DC Comics IPs would be crazy

Everything is on the table after this (although I believe $70B is something like half of MS cash on hand so that’s a lot lol)

With this acquisition, if it’s validated ( the Fox acquisition was validated for Disney so I bet it will), Ms should go for an other acquisition fast. Because, if (or we can say When), the rotation of IP from Bethesda, Xbox Studios and Activision will start for real (2021, was ok, but lot of Bethesda Studio are still on multiplat or event PS exclusive for now, Xbox Game Studio that are growing are slow to release game), the market share of Xbox should become bigger and then the acquisition will not be that easy (they could be refuse by the governement).

Why not go for the whole WB, what is that around 100 billion?

You could then see MS bringing out an Elder Scrolls movie series, in the Lord of the Rings style.

Now this I’d like to see.

You’d have HBO Max to bring out a Gears of War tv show and animated tv shows like Banjo Kazooie or now Spyro.
