I think ASOBO, CC2 and IOI would add the most out of this. Idk if CDPR is worth it with no IP. Crytek I’d say is not worth bringing into the 1st party, just fund some games if interested. Bungie, Idk do they need any shooters?
Nah CDPR would be worth it imo WRPG would be on lock with the Witcher 4, Crytek give two great IPs Crysis, Ryse and great tech engine Cryengine. as for Bungie it’s time to come home, they also have fantasy game coming.
The Polish government already invested some money into CDPR. And we can imagine the answer if an american company like MS wanna deal with geopolitical stuff like that or not. Thought never say never but still…
I heard that Sony has an acquisition budget of $18 billion over 3 years. That’s for all of Sony. Being generous and saying Playstation can get $5 billion out of that, they would only be able to afford Sega out of this list and they would have no more acquisitions until the 3 years end.
Capcom is such a steal I would be shocked if MS doesn’t buy them in the next couple of years. Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma. Definitely the best bang for your buck.
I’m not a fan of quoting market values for publishers/studios and going based off that. It’s not like the developer super market.
There’s so many more things going on in the background. It’s easy to say “MS should have bought Sega, Capcom, SE and Ubisoft for the same price as just Activision” but the reality isn’t so simple.
I think Capcom won’t sell to anyone because Monster Hunter is their biggest IP and Switch is the biggest platform for it (Japanese popularity). It would be extremely difficult to convince them “No more Switch, okay?”
With PlayStation being a large part of Sony’s business, I can imagine PlayStation getting a larger chunk of that. Especially when they are market leader and they could use those funds to remain that way.
But I do thank you for sharing that number and the fact that it was allocated for 3 years, it’s something that still provides a restriction in terms of what they can and can’t do. Interesting stuff!
I think Sony will try and get Capcom, Square Enix, may try to get Take Two. I don’t see Xbox going after another big publisher because they will start hearing monopoly being thrown around. I don’t think they will have to worry about the government going after them for being a monopoly because they can say look at Embracer who has 86 studios and Tencent own\have their hand in so many game companies. I can see Xbox still go after IOI, Netherealm Studios, Crystal Dynamics, and Asbo.
Yeah. I’d love Sega but with the monster that is the Switch in Japan I don’t see any of the big publishers selling besides Square to Sony… I’d like to see MS pick up a smaller, “unproven”-ish studio like JP Games who could at least carve out their niche as the “Xbox JRPG Guys”
