Hindle why are we bringing these takes today :skull:

I just realized xbox will own all of Sierra’s back catalog. King’s Quest, Quest for Glory, Gabriel Knight…

The mind just boggles.

Maybe this will solve the problem that people said about marketing.

I don’t think anything is going to happen. Don’t question this, I’m right most of the time.

Its a fair take. So many AAA studios on one IP is now no longer necessary

So I did a quick Google search. According to Wikipedia Activision Blizzard has a net worth of $23 billion and sold for 3 times that amount. I have no financial background so I will just use that factor of 3.

With $70 billion, Microsoft could have bought:

  • Capcom ($4.6 billion × 3)
  • Sega ($4.9 billion x 3)
  • Square Enix ($2.6 billion x 3)
  • Take Two ($5 billion x 3)
  • Ubisoft ($6.6 billion x 3)

= $71.1 billion

These numbers are probably totally off and I don’t expect Microsoft to make another purchase of this size (deja vu to what we were saying after Bethesda) but it shows how everything is on the table now. Microsoft can easily buy any one or even multiple publishers in the industry. No more debating private vs public and no more debating size/cost. I’m not even an Activision fan (love Blizzard though) and this is really exciting. Crossing my fingers for Capcom.

Yep, I was saying as much earlier; at least let the studios outside of Treyarch, IW, and Sledgehammer work on other stuff, and give the aforementioned three time to release new CoD games without the annual requirement. Selfishly, I’m with you too on getting the full Eidos gang back together; sprinkle in an extra dev or two each year down the road and I think all bases would be covered. I do wonder if the other deals are dead because of this, at the moment.

I’m a bit curious, but was Activision one of the potential targets for MS you heard about ?

I’ve been wondering, because I believe Microsoft will backtrack Activision’s moves to make into a one ip corporation, which means all the “COD support studios” will be returned to their traditional title development, including Toys for Bob who fills perfectly their need of E rated games.

I wonder if Microsoft will keep the yearly COD releases, my guess is that we are going to see bigger gaps, like every two or three years like forza, but with each separate studio as they work on two games, one original and one COD. Unless they turn IW as the sole developer, and try to have a bit longer and better development to have a 9/10 critical acclaim game that have GTA V tier of long legs at the financial level which erases the need of having two mediocre Call of Duty to fill pockets for each good.

With the exception of maybe 2 or 3 people here, this deal made all the rest of us look foolish in terms of who we were certain would not be on the table for acquisition.

I was convinced that the only acquisition of this level they’d consider was Valve. Boy was I wrong.

Nope, this one caught all of us off guard equally. I had absolutely no idea lol. Nick knows more than the rest of us, and it even caught him off guard… it was a legit out-of-nowhere megaton.

Damn Nothing is off the table now

It’s absolutely insane that Microsoft is able to do this deal all in cash lol.

I was always convinced that TakeTwo is a very likely target, but everything beyond that I seriously doubted.

EA Activision Tencent

All would have cost more than double of what they payed for LinkedIn.

It’s funny but that’s how gangsters do business.

It’s so funny how we spent months talking about companies Microsoft would never buy due to controversies or toxic ass work environments and they turn around and buy the most toxic company in gaming rn.

I’m never projecting my values and morals when we discuss acquisitions again :sob:. In hindsight, it’s even funnier we even tried to use that an excuse since we’re dealing with one of the faces of capitalism.

Any and everything is on the table now, it’s nuts.

I think the CoD trio may staff and have second teams working on stuff but cod will always be made.
