Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

Nick is just voicing a theory i had way back in 2014, on Neogaf.

CD, Tomb Raider and the whole Eidos catalogue namely. Ive been saying it for years.

Its still a few years away from happening though

What was the 2014 theory? Lol

I guess we now know where Nick gets his DMs

Has anyone mentioned Acquire Studios, the developer of Octopath Tarveler as a target?

Pass

Just Cause rebooted to play like Mercenaries and I’ll buy Eidos myself.

I am right there with you, in thinking Spiders could have been the next big RPG studio.

I guess MS will have to buy Nacon, because they now own Spiders.

I also think MS should get Larian Studios, before Sony decides to acquire them, too.

oh interesting this game made by one of their studios round 8 (kr studio)

I’m close to finishing Guardians of the Galaxy and man is this game fantastic. Is Xbox could land CD and Eidos, that would be huge. Third person action games would immediately be covered moving forward

The other day there was talk about MS needing to buy a mobile video game developer and we’ve all talked about MS needing a Japanese studio, so why not buy Level-5.

Level-5 has recently been more of a cellphone game developer, over video game console developer.

So they would be a smart purchase and with Xcloud, I can easily see this helping push consoles in Japan, because this way you could play L5’s games on the go, with your phone or at home on the console.

Oh apologies, I was adding my statement as an addendum to yours not a contradiction. The statement about FUD/concern was geared at the “it didn’t meet the executive bonus benchmark, so it’s a failure” crowd.

Welcome!

Welcome to this site and really great list of studios too.

Let’s summarise some facts  I think it helps to understand the direction of what might be next.

November 15:

Phil: “I talked a little bit about some of the kind of genre and areas that I think we need to continue to invest in. Doesn’t mean we won’t invest in other stuff if the opportunity comes up, but there’s a lot of great conversations happening and I’m encouraged." July 13:

“Does this mean Xbox might purchase a studio in India, Africa or South America?”

Phil: “It would actually surprise me if that doesn’t happen. I’d be surprised if in the next 3 - 5 years, you don’t see numerous studios that aren’t in the traditional hubs.Phil Spencer on the future of Xbox: we still want to take risks with games | Games | The Guardian

June 30:

Phil: “Looking at our first-party, I think there is an opportunity for us with more family friendly content. Thinking of the geographic diversity of our studios, there is still work for us to do there. We’ll continue to grow our first-party capabilities.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG84Sxjdy1Q

September 24, 2020:

Satya: “We will always look for places where there is that coincidence of purpose, mission and culture. We will seek to grow inorganic where it makes sense.” https://thinkcomputers.org/microsoft-ceo-satya-nadella-says-more-acquisitions-for-xbox-game-studios-in-the-cards/

So you’re telling me… if I knock on the door and say trick or treat, I’ll get a free piece of candy?

Any That 70s Show fans?

Back to the main point - it’s gonna be exciting to see what happens in the next 3-5 years. I hope Xbox helps expand the industry even further.
