I believe IO Interactive is there, is that what you’re alluding to?
The problems with CDPR have been discussed ad nauseam, lower-value or otherwise, there are stark contradictions in their inner dealings that Xbox/Microsoft have shown time and time again that they wish to avoid. Additionally, they’re public and have investments from the Polish government. It’s not happening.
Might I also add the following from Matt Booty in June 2021 during the closed-doors pre-E3 presentation to investors:
“ We will continue to look for studios that can add great people, great teams, and great new ideas to our lineup… Second, we are growing our studios organisation through acquisition. We use a filter of ‘people, teams and ideas’ to keep us disciplined. People that we have relationships with, teams who have delivered games through both success and have seen some adversity, and studios that have a proven track record of new ideas… And we know that a thriving entertainment service needs a consistent and exciting flow of new content. So our portfolio will continue to grow as our service grows.“
My point in reminding everyone of Matt’s words (equally as important, and additive, as Phil and Satya’s) is that the period of growth for Xbox is likely to continue for the foreseeable future, and pretending that a statement(s) from Phil specifying one gap or need precludes other offers or pursuits isn’t in line with reality.
Hello Games jumps out to me as having all those qualities. First studio I thought of.
IO Interactive and Asobo fit, the Square West studios definitely fit too.
Whoa how did I not see this posted here
That’s a freaking massive move by Embracer
It was announced and posted here like a week ago and people already talked about the possibility of a Berserk game
Oh I completely missed it. They own a ton of properties and licensing them to Netflix really helped Netflix get off the ground. That’s a massive move!
Agree, along IOI and they should have covered most of the core console gamers big time so then focus should be on E-Rated, PC, and global content (inc Jap.)
Yep, it’s the best move I’ve seen from a games “publisher” to get so much IP.
Yeah I’m kind of stunned. That’s a massive move for them. They have plenty of studios to work on their IP.
This was a move I advocated for Xbox on a few occasions. I am very glad that it’s Embracer though and not Tencent, I trust Embracer and they’ll do well with the IP. Maybe they’ll help build dark horse up to the level of DC or Marvel
Wonder what this means for their ambition beyond gaming though?
Reikon has always interested me. Apparently they’re teasing and hiring for a FPS now, too. Ruiner was really neat, great aesthetic, good grasp on Cyberpunk from the studio overall. I think they’re ex-CDPR vets.
If we’re talking newer studios in Poland I really like Starward Industries
I think these studios could be a thing Crytek IOI SEGA: this one because Xbox said they wanna more RTS game because this genre Is very important for Gamepass PC. Sega actually owns two Great RTS developers like Creative Assembly and Relic. Total war serie could become a Xbox’s IP. and we should consider that actually Total War serie Is most important than AOE. What do you Think about?
I think it’s really down to 1 thing for Microsoft. Sonic. Everyone thinks that Sega is this trash company that is damaged goods. The reality, they might have the best, diverse selection of studios in the UK. Creative Assembly for multiple years has won “Best place to work in the UK” awards. Altus (with the exception of the FF14 developers) might be best JRPG developer in Japan. Ryu Ga Gotuko is a little overrated IMO, but I do see the value. The only real concern is Sonic, and the accident waiting to happen that is Sonic Team. I think Microsoft (Phil) is waiting to see what becomes of Sonic Frontiers before any further serious acquisition talks begin.
Imagine Xbox will acquire just one studio this generation. Who would you pick? (No publisher, only studio)
I’d say FromSoftware
Just curious, what’s the pitch you make to the Kadokawa corp to make them sell?
Eidos with thief and deus ex ip , it would be insane to see a thief made by arkane
Yeah, from Software would single-handledly cover Xbox biggest hole, japanese-games, also with a high-profile studio which makes games popular both in the east and in the west, a very rare match.
The Squirrel knows something.
Time to crack open his squirrel brain and feasts of the delecious gooey secrets inside.
I won’t be partaking be squirrels are shockingly high in cholesterol.
that’d explain a lot
