Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

ngl Embracer’s future is looking very interesting .

I think when Embracer releases their gamepass equivalent, half the games from every other service will be gone because that will legitimately be how much IP, studios, games they will have under them that are currently on these other services

They’re singlehandedly trying to be responsible for the rebirth and sustenance of the “AA” space.

Nah, I don’t think they want to make MS, Sony or any other big corp their enemies or rivals, they simply want an always bigger cut of pie which is gaming. They are already the biggest european publisher through owning the AA space.

I don’t think Embracer want to have a subscription service, they just want to have control over as much IP, content, and content production as possible. That is litterally their “endgame”. It can be leveraged in many ways, they can continue to publish normally, they can get deals to be on other services, and they could even produce content in partnership with other services and platform holders.

I take a quick look on where the money came from for all those acquision.

Embracer does not have cash on hand. They are making fund raising again and again by creating shares on the market. And they burn all there cash buy a crazy buying politic.

But at somepoint they will have to make cash, otherwise investors will start to sell and they will not be able to “create” cash again.

That’s a risky situation, because if to many game fail at launch, it’s could become hard to keep a group that size (that should have became expensive monthly with all those studios).

they just keep coming

DIGIC is a Hungarian cinematics studio akin to Blur.

Shiver is a support studio that has worked on Mortal Kombat games

Apparently they worked on HALO 4 which had probably the best pre rendered cinematics at the time. And they work on CGI game trailers. Smart move, now they have something that other publishers could want to make them trailers.

You know what, I wouldn’t be surprised if they go for a technical studio that has an engine and development tools that they could also leverage to licence to other developers.

I think this literal flood shows how many studios are in need of money and/or are ready to cash in and sell. Unfortunately MS targets are within AAA space, which hugely limits the possibilities.

Ubisoft really doesn’t sound like a company MS would want any part of and so I’m going to say I don’t think they’ll be acquired.

I agree and precedents are not good (Bioware, Bizarre and Double Helix were all acquired while having a 2nd party deal with Xbox in progress and their departure significantly harmed Xbox as a whole and/or Xbox series), let’s hope for the best, but brace ourselves for the worst. XD

Bioware I think was doomed from the start cuz the company that sold it to EA was headed by the same guy who became EA’s head lmao (and is now heading Unity I think). Bizarre is definitely bizarre, and Double Helix was a dumbass oversight of not having Right of First Refusal in the contract they had, which has hopefully taught them a lesson to not miss something like that with any other future project.

I mean that was well before Microsoft recognized the importance of 1st party and acquisitions.

Asobo at least won’t be acquired by anyone else I believe, either stay independent or go with Microsoft.

IOI will have eyes on them from everywhere for sure, I think Sony would probably want them. Microsoft should really do their best to secure them.

I’m cautiously quiet for Asobo, Flight Sim is a 10 year GaaS, they must have some secure deal, while for IOI, I don’t think so, being the game still unannounced, not even close to release.

I have wanted IOI even before we found out they’re working with Xbox. Now it would be even worse If they work with them but don’t acquire them.

my guesses are Focus Entertainment will try real hard to get them if not already talking about it. They already own the Plague Tale IP, are funding and publishing the sequel that looks insane, are generally expanding as a publisher and acquiring more studios, publishing more games (the WH40K Space Marine 2 came outta nowhere), they got DotEmu already and the TMNT and Metal Slug Tactics games looking fire as hell, like Focus is definitely accelerating rn and for Asobo, they’re French too which can provide incentive to go with them. Like a lot of alignment there. It’s a case where either Focus getting them or MS getting both are both fine, because Focus already love Gamepass evidently and are willing to expand and put more money into bigger and more ambitious projects.

Yes. I am personally an advocate for getting Focus, and either it comes with Asobo or they get Asobo through them and and let Focus grow even more and acquire other devs :philwins:

I’d meant to say either MS or Focus getting them both are fine, but accidentally added both twice and it sounds like MS getting Focus lmfao, which is definitely a crazy wild move not out of possibility.
