I know a lot of people want Microsoft to acquire Sega (for some reason) but that is one of those acquisitions that would make me legitimately sad. Sega has such a storied legacy that their games being confined to one system (+ PC) would legitimately suck.
It would be different than Bethesda (who, prior to last gen, had a much, MUCH stronger relationship with Microsoft than the other platform holders).
At this point, the only companies I would want to see MS acquire are small AA developers that could utilize a greater budget (and job security) or a smaller AAA dev that they have a strong relationship with (similar to Playground).
Sega games have a long history of being confined to one console… their own.
Microsoft codeveloped the dreamcast with Sega and because of that a lot of Sega games were exclusives in the og xbox. They’re one if if not the longest tenured 3rd party partner for xbox. They’re basically France to xbox’s America. Not always seeing eye to eye but our longest ally and partner. Would love to see xbox and Sega join officially
Sega would benefit so tremendously much from a Microsoft acquisition. You’d see them bring a number of long dead IP back and your see huge investment into their IP to grow them. The idea would be that the Xbox platform and thus Sega titles will be as ubiquitous if not more so than Netflix.
I would add the weird concept that someone else buying game freak. It would just be weird and I would feel uncomfortable about it. Besides that business is business and if two consenting companies want to tie the knot who are we to judge
