This is weird at multiple levels, because I have seen the shareholdings too. It is quite possible for JP Morgan to get majority shareholdings in Square – very very easily, if they want to.
Even Sony is possible, theoretically. No one is going to stop public acquisitions that benefit the shareholders. And this is not a part of any defence related requirements.
I don’t care if you want to be dogmatic about it. But in the general world of acquisitions, it does not work like that.
Acquisitions are offered. Management okays them. Regulators simply decide what needs to be done. They have not stopped any acquisitions across the world. And video games are the least sensitive categories.
Usually, management can take an alternative call - like Ferrari calling Fiat to give a counteroffer for Ford, for instance. But after management+primary shareholders okay it, it has a very high chance of going through.
Just because the gaming community is slightly bent out of shape in terms of their biased thinking about how Japan operates, it does not mean the real world is like that. Japan is more closer to US than you think. Any spurious regulations there, will have a countereffect and a counterresponse.
I was the first person in forum to say that xbox needs a super smash game with their own characters but people shot me down saying that MS does not own enough characters ( lol ) .
I also think a Kart racer could be fun or if that doesn’t work just make another Forza spin-off, but make it like the video game, Blur that used real cars that got to use power ups to damage their opponents.
If not that take what Rare did with Kinect Sports Rivals and turn the small jet skies part into a full game instead. You could even have people like Kait or Ori be the characters on the jet skies too.
Who needs a Smash clone when you could make a modern day Virtua Fighter featuring an Xbox All-Stars cast?
It only takes one small, easy acquisition of SEGA!
No one can stop me. Having RGG and Atlus in-house is still an insane idea to me! Like, Yakuza is already off the rails in side-content, can you imagine how much further they could go with access to all those IP???
I’m less supportive of this idea, to be honest, because none of the characters are doing actions from their games. If it’s a kart racer, they’re essentially just skins. Which doesn’t feel like the best way to celebrate them.
A few. Not many. But I’m talking about even characters without combat at all. Like how Smash made Villager work. Could that happen in a game like Overwatch? I guess it’s not impossible, but it’s tough to see it.
I meant quality/technically wise. Mario Kart seems so good because nobody does a similar thing, but it’s really nothing exceptional with a Nintendo coat of paint on top of it.
