PS: I’m loving how Phil is pushing Sarah and Matt to the foreground. MattB is not a press interviews person, but always like him speaking on things. And Sarah is a natural eloquent star.
Add the fact MS have said they are looking at new markets to expand into, and I think a Korean studio is on the cards
Sarah’s a boss and a treasure!
She just glows be hard in a bussiness deal to refuse her…phil please send her to tokoyo to yoshi p she’d walk away with a ff14 deal.
Watching microexpressions closely - did Sarah just suppress her amusement when the interviewer said, “switching gears to acquisitions…”
Gears makes everyone happy all the time!
And she did say something that I believe to be true - " I can’t tell you who we are going to buy, next."
There seems to be a staple message for the press already across all 3 - Phil, Sarah and Matt. And we are all just playing along sometimes. This is very shrewd of them to keep cards very close to their chest.
But xbox can’t buy in Japan due to regulations made for Chinese companies
/s
Tencent really is becoming a power player and I can’t help but wonder with all these new studios Tencent is going after, if this will force Microsoft to purchase another studio sooner than later.
good .
Any GoTY conversation is an addictive medicine.
I think they are going to be slightly more judicious and bring in ready teams that need a little more support to reach the distance and create very high quality games. A very different situation from 2018.
This is similar to what @therearefournaan said earlier here.
This is besides the targets that Phil, Sarah, and Matt have publicly mentioned earlier - E rated, casual, something that fans are asking for (narrative 3rd person).
Even my gym made some new acquisitions and added new machines…ffs phil wake up !!!
Yeah. I mean, there is always some justification why MS won’t or can’t purchase in Japan. China is allowed free reign there though…
Hope MS will buy something.
It is rather strange to compare a studio and an entire publisher, whose shares are traded on stock exchanges.
The size of the studio doesn’t mean anything, they make games, they are not critical for national security, moreover I’m pretty sure japanese government would be very happy choosing MS over Tencent or any other Beijiing funded company.
wtf - LOL.
Until a large company from another country buys a Japanese game publisher, I will not believe that everything is as simple as they are trying to describe here
I don’t know if it would be a smart choice or not, but after Google stopped making exclusive games for Stadia, Shannon Studstill is now a free agent and it might be smart to bring her on board.
She worked at Santa Monica Studios and if I remember correctly she was head in charge of PlayStation All Stars.
A Xbox All Stars game could be a blast and I understand Microsoft doesn’t want a Super Smash Bros. clone, but I think there is room enough for an inspired by Xbox Game.
We already seen how happy people were to see Banjo Kazooie in Super Smash, now imagine them fighting Doom Guy, Master Chief, Commander Keen, Johanna Dark, you name it.
As for Microsoft wanting more casual game studios, I can’t help but think Thunderful Group, which owns game studios like Zoink and Image & Form fits that bill.
