Them dead Ip’s can be resurrect that the whole point of buying IP’s even dead IP are valuable if put into the hands of the right Dev. Also Borderlands is a massive IP that has sold over 60 million copies. So i disagree with you that dead IP or smaller IP have no value.

I don’t understand feeling this thread should be put on slow mode or closed just because people are continuing to have some discussion. If you don’t find the discussion engaging or productive right now, you can choose to not enter the thread or participate in the thread. There’s no need to police users discussions or ability to discuss just because you’re not interested in them.

Also, I’m very much looking forward to when the next publisher is acquired so the talking points that Bethesda was a once in a lifetime purchase, or that a publisher is doing too well to sell (which is exactly when they would want to sell to maximize their value) can fade away.

Embracer doesn’t even own Borderlands no?

But mostly AAA, because these games are system-sellers and in terms of Microsoft view – they are and they will be a subscription-sellers.

Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Starfield, Avowed, Fable, Perfect Dark – these games are AAA and they’re going to sell new subscriptions and renewals to the people. Not games like Battletoads, Tell Me Why or As Dusk Falls which are already forgotten. They’re just to fit a schedules between bigger releases. I’m not telling they’re/it’ll bad at all.

They don’t. Take-Two owns.

Still haven’t played it, was on the Apex Legends grind last week. Maybe this weekend I’m going to boot it up. But I’m going to hope with you, looks very good.

I agree with that. I mean look at Netflix - it started with older IPs then it eventually switched to new IPs, but he had the luck of being the first so did not fail. They made new IPs. But now they started to make partnerships to produce movies, animated series with bigger IPs. IP is the value.

Or Disney’s rise is purely due to legendary IPs they own. And now they are milking huge AAAA IP aka Star Wars.

Amazon made some new IPs, but it still bought MGM because of its IP.

I always assumed Embracer was purchasing studios so they can on sell the whole company to a larger investor like Tencent, MS, Google or Amazon for more.

They own it but if they make another game than Take Two will still publish but the IP is own by Embracer now.

I won’t, because most of their shows are mediocre, left-winged, with too much hidden propaganda and only few of them are good/really/worth of mention.

That’s why I don’t want to have Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Studios with Bethesda Software as Netflix of gaming and a fabric for a mid-range stuff.

No they don’t own it if they need T2 to publish it.

False here is what i get by looking it up.

“2K Games will still publish the Borderlands franchise even though Gearbox is now owned by Embracer group, according to a statement. Embracer Group, the Swedish holding company that’s the parent of THQ Nordic, has just purchased Gearbox Entertainment for a cool $1.3 billion”

Awful lot of posts for what many say is a dead topic…

No, they don’t own Borderlands IP. Jesus Christ…

Jesus christ

They own Gearbox but not the IP.

Actually MS selling IPs is one of the most stupid things they ever done. Compare it to their purchase of Gears of War IP (that literally was a lifeline for the whole Xbox One gen), or imagine them selling Halo. Sometimes you can have a heart attack when MS does something.

IP is the gold basically. Like for example Killer Instinct that was revived by Double Helix which literally made Silent Hill Homecoming.

Yall do know people come for the AAA games but stay for mainly the other shit you know? Yall falling down the “these are the only types of games they need to make” hole.

And what exactly you want to say me with that quote?

Borderlands is not owned by Embracer Group. Gearbox and THQ Nordic are two different publishers under Embracer’s umbrella.

Im 100% sure that Gearbox owns the Borderlands IP lol but 2k Take Two will still published the games instead of Embracer. Thus Embracer also owns the IP since they now own Gearbox.

But the thing is AAA do not grow on trees, while other smaller stuff grows. I think Hades is more popular than Gothic IPs for example. Despite Gothic being old and kinda legendary IP.
