Yes now that you mention it there is like a bunch of games that is published by MS that is not in gamepass cause they don’t own the IP. The catalog of games is pretty impressive in itself.
That is cause they keep renewal the contract but still if you outright own the IP it is better than a timed 3rd party contract.
It is better but it is not the sole option that MS should pursue all the time. Purchasing Embracer is like @Hindle purchase of CDPR - relatively expensive and not worthy purchase.
Also some of my targets have been acquired by someone else like Spiders, 4A games, etc.
What ? no Embracer owns like more than 50 plus IP’s and studios in it catalog wile CDPR owns like 3 IP lol not even in the same ballpark.
Welcome to the Cursed club
Sit down and don’t say any names.
Just tell people to be realistic.
Embracer is an insane acquisition of Ip’s sure but it comes with like 50 studios and thats salaries and bills that you gotta pay and games that you have to fund.
Most of the IPs that Embracer do not hold the candle for a lot of other entities - sometimes even studios.
Honestly Embracer stinks like something Tencent will heavily invest in to me.
Nobody knows what Embracers plan even is. They just that crazy dude from apocalypse movies that hordes supplies.
Dead Rising 3 was published by Microsoft (not Microsoft Studios) for Xbox One (PC port is self-published by CAPCOM).
Dead Rising 4 was funded by Microsoft’s Global Gaming Partnership & Development division (same like Rise of the Tomb Rider).
But both was on Xbox Game Pass and in my opinion they should be still available in the catalogue.
Another game which left Xbox Game Pass was D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die from Access Games. That one was published by Microsoft Studios on Xbox One (PC port was published by Playism).
I mean if a relatively small company in Embracer compare to Microsoft can do it i see why not MS can’t.
Actually i just looked it up Embracer aka THQ Nordic now owns 244 IPs including Borderlands. They own some pretty impressive IP’s that are great for gamepass if you ask me. So my figure of them owning 50 IP was way off they own 3 times as much lol
Yeah, partners like * checks notes * Housemarque that was allegedly looked at. I don’t think that’s really a requirement, but they seem to prefer it.
Look Butters If I dont get my AAA version of The Ascent funded by Microsoft exclusively for the Series X Im gonna SCREAM.
MS owns a lot of IPs too, but the point is that most of those IPs are not … popular anymore. A lot of them are dead, a lot of them are not even AAA.
MS is building a service so it needs AAA IPs and new IPs basically.
Borderlands is still owned by Take-Two Interactive. Embracer Group bought the company which is another publishing wing for them. Borderlands is still under 2K.
PS. It’s not aka THQ Nordic. They’re just Embracer Group. THQ Nordic is one the publishers under their umbrella.
Microsoft needs IP’s of all types of A’s not just that one.
Smaller IPs it can easily gain from indies. Ascent, Death’s Door and so on.
