Xbox Acquisition |OT3| 100% Organic Growth

Microsoft sold publishing rights for Alan Wake to Remedy in 2019.

Windows 10 version has no Xbox network support at all (so no Xbox achievements for XGP for PC) and it was self-published by Remedy.

It was even noted as an ID@Xbox game.

It doesn’t matter.

It does matter, because the contracts for it did not include Game Pass at that time. The contracts are not retroactive in that regard.

OK but the whole point is that if MS does not own the IP than it probably won’t stay on gamepass forever. That is why you need to buy the IP outright since finance and publish it but don’t own the IP means it can still leave gamepass.

It’s a shame you feel the discussions are meaningless, perhaps it would be better if you put the thread on mute for the duration?

The whole point of owning IP is the ability to freely use. It is not even about Game Pass at all. With the good designed contracts it won’t be an issue anymore.

I mean now contracts include stuff like “not putting games on the competing service for a year or so”.

At least it was one of the longest available games in Xbox Game Pass, because it was 2 years.

Nearly all of the games are for one year. Some of them are longer or shorter.

Compulsion Games is now just over 70 people.

It’s not that there meaningless, it’s that they are redundant.

Microsoft should buy “X because of Y”.

We’ve had all the talks about who they should buy and why.

It’s an endless feedback loops of same discussion while we wait for something.

But like I said, it was just my opinion.

I’m not one to ruin other people’s fun, but it seems like we’re going in endless circles of 200+ posts with little to nothing to show for it.

Well I thought that Capcom was off the table, but then I came to the conclusion that Capcom is on the table. So my discussion regarding that topic has changed.

Microsoft isn’t buying Capcom.

It is a genuine possibility.

Yes but still you need to own the IP to make sure it stay on a Service like Gamepass forever. This is why MS is buying theses studios up instead of only doing timed gamepass deals. That is why all of Bethesda games won’t ever leave gamepass now.

No it isn’t.

Capcom ain’t selling they’re doing too well.

You own IP not because the game stays on Game Pass forever or not. I mean the indie Game Pass - Descenders is not leaving Game Pass anytime soon and I don’t remember MS purchasing them.

Yes 2 years is a long time but it would be even better if it stay on there forever. Or as long as the service exist.

In most cases it’s like Microsoft should buy SEGA, Microsoft should buy CAPCOM, Microsoft should buy SQUARE ENIX, Microsoft should buy Konami’s IP. Nearly the same thing over and over again for a dozens of months.

It’s really boring and pointless.

Especially they finalized ZeniMax acquisition just in March and probably they’re still in some integration and getting to know each other phase.

And that’s why I am telling you that they are possibility because you can be doing well and after two or three years you are doing bad. It happened so many times and with the bigger companies willing to pay, owners might be interested to sell while they are the golden goose.

Same for Dead Rising 3 and Dead Rising 4.

Agree with your assessment @ProgStopper

The Zenimax acquisition was a massive outlier in the Industry in terms of money/teams/ip’s involved. Microsoft does have the money to buy whoever they want but I dont think Capcom (with their massive recent success), Square (lol) or any other publisher seems like an actual realistic target. I know people love the Sega stuff here but I dont see it either.

I believe the list starts with current partners like Asobo, Neon Giant*, IO and Avalanche and you work from there.
