Could be Kojima, not an acquisition on the sure side, but the confirmation of the project, but why on a podcast? Could it be a day before we will see the announcement? Or even on the Earnings Call?
I assume that there would be an announcement prior to whoever appearance on the podcast if it was an acquisition.

When is the Major Nelson podcast?
Announcement on Monday or Tuesday wouldn’t be out of the picture, with the podcast later in the week.

But if it’s indeed an acquisition, it probably isn’t publisher sized. If a publisher gets bought I expect more of a roundtable thing again.
edit: just remembered that there was an interview with Major Nelson about the Zenimax deal long before the roundtable.

Yeah, he interviewed Phil, Todd and Pete the day after the Zenimax announcement.
I don’t think Major Nelson was serious here. This guy would not foreshadow a Xbox acquisition on his podcast.

The thing is his quote is so vague that can mean anything, so he’s not really foreshadowing anything.

Yeah, a timestamp would be great or at least a rough idea when he said it in the Podcast.
It was at the last part in the final 3-4 minutes i think, he mentioned that there could be a special guest if everything was set with lawyers, and that it would be him and another podcaster rather than three staff on the next one.
Reminder that Grubb was told about a billion dollar investment that wasn’t an acquisition and turned out weeks later to be Bethesda.

Who do y’all think that is a possible acquisition to be announced next week? If i had to choose one i would say Asobo.

He mentioned lawyers, could have been a indirect mention to Kojima, I don’t think it’s an acquisition, but a surprise announcement of the project as they did with Bethesda, and even Sony did out of event announcement of the partnership back in 2015-2016. Unless they buy Kojima with an option on the contract that he can do a management takeover like Bungie did, don’t think that after Konami he will be keen on accepting an acquisition that easy.
However, the funny thing is that FS Xbox version will be released on the same day as earnings, so it could have been a foreshadow.

Be interesting to see what it is, I think we might be setting expectations high by going straight to acquisition though. There are a ton of things it could be, guess we’ll (maybe) see next week.
So I’ve been thinking, I think one studio Xbox needs to target quickly is Neon Giant.
I think after The Ascent releases there’s going to be a ton of interest in this team. They’re currently an 11 person team and in 3 years created a studio and have made a game that looks pretty great. They’re obviously insanely talented and their pedigree is impressive. Obviously it depends on if they want to sell but if they’re interested I think MS would be making a mistake to not invest right now.

Yeah, hearing it myself I don’t think that hints a incoming acquisition. I don’t know who Rebecca is, but if it was one I think she wouldn’t be there next week and Phil or Matt would attend instead.
But I don’t think it was a joke either. There really seems to be lawyers involved.
There’s a possible acquisition each week in this place, don’t read too much into it
